La Liga

Big Sam, when will you and TT finally realise that I'm not saying they are quite literally small? I know they're not. But put them up against RM, Barca and etc etc, and they definitely look small. They were massive underdogs for the La Liga at the beginning, were they not? Barely considered to win the darn thing. TT just wanted to be a bitter miserable bastard for routine's sake, the whole thing has been blown way out of context.

Things aren't black and white. Context is a concept you should learn about.

Atletico is the 3rd biggest club in Spain. Yet they're still little compared to the teams around them. Atletico in terms of budget are about a fifth of the size of the clubs they've competed with and out performed this year.

I stand by my claim that a CL-LL double by Atletico would be the greatest achievement in club football history. That's because they're little compared to the other contenders for those trophies.

Yes it would be a greater achievement than Steau Bucharest, Celtic or Red Star Belgrade winning the EC.

Just f**k off you have NFI.

I guarantee there was less financial disparity between Steau, Celtic and RSB and the richest clubs in the world in their day than there is now between Atletico and the richest clubs of today.

Atletico's NET transfer spend is miniscule. Net spend is a much accurate representation of a clubs financial firepower. When Atletico has spent big it's been shortly before or after selling big.

They're in that position because they have been a poorly run football club for well over a decade not because they're little, ffs they're hundreds of millions in debt and over 90% of their money is on wages

The only reason they sell big is to stay live and then they still go and put €40m on Falcao. You've got zero idea.

All those things describe problems common with small clubs.

Yes Atletico is bigger than the vast majority of professional football clubs in the entire world. But my point was they are much much much smaller than the clubs they've been competing with in terms of on field performance.

What is atletico's global revenue compared to the main big boys?

It's not all about wages and transfer fees. Look at their worldwide following. Brand recognition. Shirt sales. I don't think I've ever seen a person here wear an atletico shirt. I really hope they do capitalise on this and keep growing though.

FFS, a bit more than 'decent'

Did you catch Ramsey's winner in thr FA Cup? As perfectly placed as Alexis', just along the carpet instead of top corner. As close as you can go to the post without hitting it. Alexis' shades Ramsey's because of the wide angle, but both were sublime strikes.

Celtic fans would argue otherwise.

Yeah I saw it, great hit, and the fact it was a very clutch play makes it better. Podolski however would be able to hit the inside of the post, make it rebound to the other post, and then finally go in.

Calling Atletico smaller than Barca or Franco is correct. Calling them little is just over exaggeration and shows you're not keeping up with Spain. There is not a single way you could ever say that a team that made the top 20 for revenue this season (and will greatly increase next season) is little.

Even in the modern Champions League era, Porto winning in 2004 would still be a greater achievement than Atletico winning it in my opinion.

In 1967 Celtic weren't a distant 3rd favourite domestically and they didn't manage to surpass 2 giants of world football.

Yes Celtic winning in Europe was an amazing achievement but I think Atletico overcoming astronomical odds in 2 competitions at once is bigger.

Even in the modern Champions League era, Porto winning in 2004 would still be a greater achievement than Atletico winning it in my opinion.

Same deal as with Celtic. Yes Porto winning the CL was amazing but they were a superpower of their league. They didn't come over the top of 2 giants domestically in the same year they overcame all the odds in Europe.

People forget how stacked some of those teams were. Prosinekci, Mihajlovic, Savicevic Pancev. And Stojkovic left the year before to Marseille, who they played in the final. These are like 5 of the most well known ex-Yugo players ever. Communist countries poured a lot of investment in sport, and you didnt need to leave your country to get paid. The wage discrepancy between leagues was nothing like it is today.

Ramsey's was a toe-poke. Not in the same league as Sanchez's.

Part of the stand collapsed after 10 minutes in the Osasuna-Betis match.

Play was suspended for 35 minutes with 20 people suffering varying injuries. The game has now resumed.

Barca fans are already pissed at Messi  I watched the game on mute so never heard them jeering Messi. Ronaldinho 2.0? Maybe he will actually perform for Argentina.
