You'd think SL over the next few years will be made up of any 12 of these 14 clubs. Theres quite a gap after club 14 to the rest. It almost warrants a 14 team comp and just have these 14 clubs in from now on.

It honestly makes sense to me, to have stability for a set amount of time with these 14 teams in the Superleague.. as well as a focus on enhancing the 2nd tier clubs.

That way, when promotion pathways are reopened, there's strong clubs in the Championship ready to take a shot at it.

RFL confirm Championship and League One structure for 2024, including expanded 1895 Cup format

The RFL has confirmed the structure of the Championship and League One competitions for 2024, including a revamped format for the 1895 Cup.

Confirmed that League One and Championship will remain separate in 2024 with promotion/relegation dynamics to be determined before the start of the season.

Interesting that they have rejigged the 1895 Cup to give League One clubs (except for Cornwall who have opted out of it so they can split the 21 teams into 7 groups of 3) to give League One clubs more fixtures.

Challenge Cup set for radical format change according to former Sky Sports pundit​

RUGBY LEAGUE’S oldest competition, the Challenge Cup, is set for a radical format change according to former Sky Sports pundit Eddie Hemmings.
On his Eddie and Stevo podcast alongside former Sky partner Mike ‘Stevo’ Stevenson, Hemmings revealed that the Challenge Cup will be akin to a Champions League structure for 2024.
The Challenge Cup, in place since 1897, was won by the Leigh Leopards in 2023 after an incredible final against Hull KR.

Hemmings said: “There’s something else up for the revamp of the Challenge Cup. We know the finals are going to be played next June – that’s a switch from August.
“And for the first time since 1896 they are proposing a group stage format involving 24 teams, followed by a knockout stage and then the final.
“12 Super League clubs will enter the group stages, they’ll be joined by 12 other teams, those 12 decided by a traditional knockout format in the early rounds involving Championship clubs, League One clubs and the community game.
“The group stages will involve eight groups of three, playing one at home, one away. Teams will then be seeded to ensure an even split. The eight group winners will then enter the quarter-finals and two will progress eventually to the final.

“A round-robin format was discussed but deemed to be not that popular with the clubs or the fans. Why on earth are they trying to mess about with the oldest cup competition in the world?”
If true, it would see the Challenge Cup enter a completely new phase of history.

Dont see the benefit other than clubs playing yet more games. The magic of sudden death knockout is what makes the cup special. Should go back to a straight draw. Watching the amateur sides try and take the heads off the pros was always a fun time.

We already have that, its called Superleague

all games are drawn. first team out has home advantage. Neutral grounds are only used for Semis and the final.

Id suggest its being done to give lower league teams an extra gane against a SL team to earn a bit more cash.

If whats been suggested is true it will be

1. Knockout of lower leagues first

2. then 8 groups of 3 teams with each team playing each other once in their group ie 2 games (featuring all 12 SL clubs plus 12 lower teams from stage 1 knockouts)

3. then knockout 1/4 and semi finals

All they are changing is that middle bit giving a guaranteed extra game to be played

It'll bring some jeopardy for 4 SL clubs in that they will be in stage 2 with another SL club in their group and only one goes through. But then a straight draw brings jeopardy every round, which is why we love knockout comps
