haha, of course it has. last year 10 clubs featured in games that broke over 200k audience on Sky.

the fact australia doesnt have cities like perth and adelaide in nrl is also stupid then, and 9 teams in sydney is stupid also when theres cities without clubs? Pot and kettle lol

Im not arguing that at all, I'm bringing some reality to the simplistic idea you posted that more french clubs should be parachuted into SL. Fact is unless someone is willing to pay for them then how's it viable?

As for other cities in England (or France) , the pathway is there. Build a club, get an A grade and get a guaranteed place in SL.
Four French clubs in super league protected from relegation would lead to a French tv deal

even two could be enough

thatd be a big gamble with no evidence that would be the case. You have to remember SL isnt NRL in terms of revenue so to add another 3 grants means reducing the existing clubs grants significantly. They are very much stuck in a catch 22.

Ok two

they’ve come close to a deal before

and there’s the previous history of rugby league overtaking union in the 1940s

France could be the savour of the English game

come close? Hardly a strong business case to ask existing clubs to give up millions is it?

today has zero relevance to 1940's lol

how we can bring in more french clubs without damaging the viability of the existing clubs or destroying the french competition is a conundrum for sure

Perpignan isn’t a big city

and yet les catalans are one of the biggest super league clubs in terms of budget and crowds

and this is with them paying travel costs for away teams

the roots in France are there toulose would be even bigger than catalans

also need Bradford snd London and have patience

game can’t go anymore backward in England

the tv deal is tiny and clubs are managing

reality is if wakey Leigh or fev died that would do no damage to rugby league and allow neighbouring clubs to proposer

Over 320k in the region which is big by European RL club reach standards

no one is arguing the potential, just the viability of the competition. If you added 3 french clubs without a french tv deal you'd be reducing current clubs grants by around 250k per club which would send many under and there's zero chance theyd agree to it.

Besides we now have a licensing system where, in theory, any french club can build to SL admission.

Toulose is 500k plus and has a massive economy unlike peripgnan. Peripgnan is only 125k in comparison

throw in non traditional rugby league cities like marseille and Lyon and voila

add toulose and wait till they get a tv deal then add two more over time

the entire English desl is 22 million pounds. Who knows maybe two French club could get close to that on their own over time

some English clubs need to die they are holding the game back

Again, its not a question of just 'adding' teams. Theres a licensing system. If Toulouse want guaranteed in they need to build their club to an A grade license. They are currently sitting 10th in the grading with a strong B so are not far from being able to do that. The beauty of the new system. If other cities want in they will need to build a club stronger than the incumbents. Thankfully the days of parachuting clubs in just to see them fail is behind us.

'Maybe' isnt a strong business case lol

You could say the same for some Sydney clubs.

Toulose is a slam dunk for the English game

wakey wont be missed nor will Leigh

leaving London out will be so shortsighted

bradords away crowds will benefit everyone

For someone so strongly opposed to culling Sydney so we can bring in bigger clubs this is highly amusing

If Cronulla got booted I wouldn’t care

Sydney has the population to sustain nine teams

super league has clubs in towns of 80k

not sustainable

if you were being totally honest you would say two hull clubs is a stretch too

Not the point, the m62 corridor has the population to sustain 11 teams or more. The Question is should you cull smaller teams for potentially bigger teams? That’s what you’re advocating.

so In the nrl that’d be getting rid of Cronulla, manly and tigers to bring in easts, Perth and Adelaide. What’s good for the goose lol

not with size of RL in England it isn’t. Both clubs just got an A grade.

Top 20 grades at first review below.
Salford look like they are in financial trouble. Wouldnt be surprised to see Toulouse in and them out in 2025. Then it'll be a battle for the final spot. Wakey will earn more points you'd think so should be in for 2025. Cant see London getting anywhere near top 12 grade score. Cut off is likely to be around the 13 point mark.

so SL 2026 clubs (in no particular order) at a guess:

1. Wigan
2. Leeds
3. St's
4. Warrington
5. HKR
6. HFC
7. Hudds
8. Catalans
9. Toulouse
10. Wakefield
11. & 12. two of: Leigh/Bradford/Salford/Cas

Salford being the outlier depending on their financial crisis and what impact it has on their score.

what a load of bs

The only big city having a super league team is Leeds and soccer crowds dwarf those

the rest are basically the suburbs of Manchester
