TIM Sheens has been re-appointed as Kangaroos coach until after next year's World Cup, but his future at Wests Tigers remains unresolved.
The Australian Rugby League Commission will today rubber-stamp Sheens as Roos coach for another 12 months after 17 wins from 18 Tests.
With his role as the Australian coach ratified, attention will switch to Sheens' stand-off with Wests Tigers, where he was sacked as head coach in September with two years remaining on his deal.
Sheens refuses to discuss the situation at the Tigers, where new coach Mick Potter has taken over and set about implementing a hardline regime.
For the time being, Sheens said his sole focus will be the Australian role and trying to win back the World Cup won by New Zealand in 2008.
"I'm happy to have been re-appointed again. I really enjoy the role and working with the players and to get the opportunity to try to win back the title of world champions is something that's been important to all of us for quite a while," Sheens said.
"I'm not prepared to talk about the Tigers, but on the Australian role, it's going to be a huge year with a tour to the UK for the World Cup at the end of next year and it's a challenge everyone is excited about. I've always said it's a huge honour to be appointed the Australian coach."
Australia will play a one-off Test against New Zealand in Canberra in April.
NRL general manager of league integration and game development, Andrew Hill, extended Sheens' tenure.
"In the past, the Australian coach did the same as the players and just turned up in camp. Now he will be able to help increase the profile of the Kangaroos, which is important in a World Cup year," Hill said.
"Whilst the position is not full-time, Tim will also play a greater role in helping develop pathways for our Junior Kangaroos, Australian Schoolboys and emerging Origin teams.
"Tim and the playing group are eager to regain the World Cup from New Zealand and having Tim's involvement with the high performance pathways will ensure our team is well prepared."
