Hayne is complaining that his $500k per isn't enough now, and you expect him to quit to play for a third world nation and earn around $40K or less given there econonmy or so in a gimmick sport?

Here is some great footage from the archives. The Wigan RL team enter a rugby union sevens tournament and make the final.

"Wigan vs Wasps in the final of the Rugby union Middlesex 7s. Listen to the crowd sing 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' as Wasps take an early lead. To see if they were still singing at the end of the match see Pt2"

a season off... for the prospect of an Olympic Gold Medal.

just the chance to go to an Olympic games.... it would be pretty special for a guy with an athletic background.

Rugby League players playing Union in the games.. NO.

Rugby League being played in the Commonwealth games.. YES.

Would that not get more countrys in the commonwealth playing League and and expanding the international game?

Not really Simo, were pretty much the only country that gives a f**k about the games!

Watching it last night I couldn't help but think any NRL side would have dominated that competition.

Everyone on this forums loves the game of league including me... but mate seriously thats a stupid comment... the guys in league would keep up for about 3 mins each half.... simply not fit enough, not big and fast enough!

Billy Slater would fit right in. Would love to see him in 7s.

We should include league players in the selections. They would have to train for it though.

Aussies might've had a chance to hand on to that lead if we did some smarter replacements. Fresh legs on those kiwis just ran all over our tired players at the end.

No way in the world would Inglis tear these guys to shreads, remember most these guys can tackle one on one and tackle the legs no matter how big they are.. Hayne was meant to be the fastest league player?? Turner beat him... Turner gets caught in the 7's and sometimes easily...

Australia could send alot better side in the 7's but most of the guys who play are 7's players only and are conditioned to play such events!

That post was just dumb.

Hayne has about triple the strength and agility of Turner, has much better footwork, and is about 15kg heavier. Plus his ball playing skills and positioning is on an entirely different level.

Hayne is also much more explosive, hence why he was winning for the first half of the race. Hayne is also faster over 40m.

And a fit and healthy Inglis would tear ANYONE to shreds in 7's. Let alone a bunch of amateur union players.

fourplay, you should at least watch the game.

The athlete needed for rugby 7s and rugby league is completely different. Turner is a borderline 7s player. Hayne & Inglis are nowhere near it.

Inglis would not even be in the picture after about 2 minutes. Let alone have any part in the play.

So Rugby 7's has gone from a gimmick amateur sport to one played by super atheletes who no-one on Earth could touch?

Apparently. lol

Keebra Park gave a pointer to what the reality is I think, Thomas' gibbering about 1 kid aside.

If you type world sevens 1993 into youtube there are a bunch of vids from that tourney.

I don't think you'll find too many people who come to your conclusion.

The game doesn't appeal to many footy fans at all.

But the fitness requirements are different. You'd be surprised to find that there isn't one form of "super athlete". Training for rugby 7s would be different to what a player would have to do for NRL. Different kind of fitness, stamina and toughness required.

An NRL player wouldn't last very long at water polo either. Doesn't mean they aren't fit so don't worry, no-one is having a go.

lol... your attitude typifies why RL is such a poor sport internationally and RU is growing.

neville nobodies in australia treat 7's as a gimmick whille RU have used 7's as a launching pad for the game overseas.

theve had tournament's in places from Delhi, Mar Del Plata, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Shanghai etc...

its now an olympic sport... which apart from the exposure the game gets by being on the world stage... it also opens up a whole lot of olympic funding to the local RU boards to pump into the game.

RL could do with a few 'gimmicks' like this.

Piss off mate.

Ive probably attended more RWC's than you have watched on TV.

I hate the "holier than thou" attitude that the rah-rah brigade have on this LEAGUE forum.

According to you guys, Rugby is played by Gods from another planet and League is just some sad working class game that you tolerate when your not attending some Old Boys function or going for a Sunday drive in your X5.

You wan't admit it but privately you believe these 7's players would DOMINATE if they played in the NRL.
