I'm actually not surprised at some of the shit comments in this thread after the death of Les Murray today.
Yes, he was a football tragic.
Yes, he supported his sport. Yes, he sometimes made comments detrimental to RL. Sometimes, but rarely.

But in no way was he as ever ANTI RL as the whole AFL COMMUNITY ARE.
The one thing the football and RL community have in common is that we have a single common enemy.
It's that shit sport from the south.
RL did everything they could to accommodate the FFA's World Cup bid. The ALF did absolutely everything they could to derail it. Why? Because we play on different shaped fields.
Then, lo and behold, they now have invented a sport (AFLX) that can be played on a rectangular field. Mmmmm, I wonder why? Maybe because that shit sport has no international competition? Maybe because that sport wants' to completely hijack sporting fields in northern states to the detriment of the far more popular football and rugby league clubs?
And then we hear that they are pressing the state govt to not go ahead with the redevelopment of ANZ because the Gnats might once in 20 years play a semi final there?

THEY CAN GO AND f**k OFF, AND OUR GOVT SHOULD BE TELLING THEM THAT!
They've been given too much money already.

RIP Les.
You were an ornament to your sport. A rectangular sport.

Les Murray hated every football code that wasn't soccer,

He thought the whole world should have only one code of football to follow just like in Eastern Europe wher he grew up..

His disdain for RL was evident many times in interviews and other articles he wrote - not just this one.

If you read this article in the first post, he is either being dishonest with his views about his own sport and RL, or he is clearly delusional and out of touch. Probably the latter.

Les Murray by all accounts was a lovely fellow. That article he wrote at the beginning of this thread though was complete garbage.

Lol whatever. I don't care if he wrote every kid playing league should be burned alive, going after him on the day he died is just weak and pathetic and I think it reflects much worse on your character then writing a bias sports article does on Murray, how ridiculous that it bothered you that much that you would stoop to this, even dead the guy can troll you, like I said I think its weak.

Les Murray was passionate about a sport he loved

I remember his work for SBS around NSL when I first emigrated to Australia and his later work on the A-League and International football with fondness

He will be sadly missed by football fans across the Country
