Shack is caught between a rock and a hard place.
He is a good forward who can defend and attack but his dominant feature that clearly stands out is as a workhorse.
We already have too many work horses in this squad of 17, we need a forward whose dominant strength is attack but who can also defend ok.

This match showed why I have always said Hayne should be 6.

Take out playmaking, which is the job of a half and I reckon Burt played fullback today better Hayne have all year.

The support play was there from Burt which has been missing all this time with Hayne ballplaying.

With Hayne at 6, he would have another option of a support player looming off his shoulder.

Secondly, it is easier for us to replace Hayne at 1 than find a good 6.

Hayne at 5/8 would mean he has to make 30 tackles a game. Do we want that? Do we want opposition forwards targeting him in defence? The more tackles he has to make, the less effective he is in attack and is more likely to get injured with a heavy defensive workload.

We need halves that inject Hayne into the game for his powerful running

You don't need to say sorry for disagreeing, But Shacks made twice the metres Webb made tonight and nearly as many as Fui. That's what you want out of a prop to make make 100 + metres per game and Shack did that tonight.

If we keep Shack in the 17 we have to drop Smith or Hindy.

All mobile and very fit, the Broncos still had an average size pack of forwards which helped Shack stand out a bit more tonight but against bigger forward packs he doesn't do as well as an attacking forward, in fact he often gets monstered. Webb won't get monstered, he just needs more game time to build up his match fitness.

Webb's fitness should be there already. He looked massive tonight. Very overweight. Shacks can at least play long minutes and run hard and tackle hard all night. Webb, well now it makes sense as to why Kearney only gives him 10 minutes a game. He he was huffing and puffing after being taken off after 13 minutes. It seems he cannot handle anything more than that perhaps.

Players like Reni & Smith will shoulder some of the defensive workload so Hayne won't get overworked in every game he plays.
Look at Lockyer and Thaiday as an example.
And besides Jarryd needs to build up match fitness for 80 minutes as a 6 so that he will eventually excel to another level.
May as well start against the Tigers next week in preparation for next year.

Fitness wise, his ankle injury has really held him back this year.
He has either overcome it now or has gotten used to playing with this injury.
Maybe we will hear more about this later in the season.... what happened.
His attitude looks great - he is keen to play, etc, so either it is age and its time to retire or he has had a troublesome injury which has effected his training which has limited him to playing in short bursts.

Absolute disaster.

No idea at all.

It is a shame Hindmarsh and Burt have to be a part of this side.

I agree on Hindmarsh.
But Burt's a good part of what's going on isn't he? He's a fairly average first grader who should be happy to be playing in any side - certainly not a match winner off his own bat, needs other people to produce.
I'd say Burt fits perfectly into what's going on....

Horo catches that pass we score they dont.

Reni gets the ball down.

Allgood manages to force the ball.

Loko's injury.

Horrible penalty for a 'chest high' called on Allgood gets Brisbane down the other end and
Casey misses badly and Horo gets stuck in the mud and Gillet scores.

Game of inches could have easily gone our way.

Both Maguire and Horo were hobbling and should not have been defending together. They should know better.

They played a simple game and took advantage of our mistakes.

Their line defense was very good.

This. They were the better side.

In saying that, we had so many attacking opportunities and really didn't look like scoring at times. Brisbane looked more organised than we did.

We got out enthused. Their line speed was superior all night. They just wanted it more.

People are saying we are playing well, the effort is there, and it's probably true enough. Over the past 5 weeks with 10 points on offer we have only managed 1 point. We should've done better during this origin phase, now we start doing maths to see if we have a chance to make the finals, not good. Next year we have signed one decent half and another reserve grader with reported off field problems, also not good.

That's true... but at least Souths can blame some poor performances on a massive injury toll... you're just sh*t hahaha... time to sack another coach?????

F88k off, with Poore out for the majority of the season and Grother and Tahu leaving in the off-season the side is most likely around 750k under the cap. Plus we have had injuries as well and had a copuple of players leave mid season. Give the eels some of Souths players tthat have remained injury free such as;

Inglis
Luke
Sandow
Tyrell
Crocker

and I guarantee you we would be a lot higher up the table then what the Crowe Rabbits are going.

We have problems in the halves at the best of times but losing Robson and not being able to call up Humble or Morts was a big problem and it showed, Reni played well but hasn't played NRL in 2 years and is more suited to lock than 5/8 but he tried his guts out and give him credit for it, Casey also tries his best but at times tried too hard. The Broncos were keener than us and thats the point that shits me, our season was on the line in front of our home crowd and he didn't get up for it. Hindy had a right to pissed at fulltime IMO.
