You will note that the above composes every team from the current competition with the exception of the Titans (1st year in 2007). Furthermore, all of the named teams have all featured in at least one GF since 1994.

That’s not forgetting now defunct clubs such as Newtown, St George, Balmain and I am sure there are more.

p.s. St. George-Illawarra have played in 2 Grand Finals and won a Premiership since 1999 (Side-stepping the argument about St. george's efforts pre-1999.) That's a 28-year head start. How a big a start did you want?

Souths have been shocking for the last 20 years, there is no getting around it. They were a basket case till Crowe took over. But that was hardly helped by being kicked out of the competition, and needing to rebuild from nothing

Manly started from a similar position (minus the money) in 2003 yet managed to contest 3 grand finals in the following 9 years and win 2 premierships. In 2003 Manly had no money, fewer fans than they had in 1999, a playing squad that included the likes of Gary Winter, Ben MacDougall, Mark Shipway and other nuffies that wouldn't have made the top 25 at other clubs (except maybe 50uff$) and Peter fu#*ing Sharp as coach. Fortunately no excuses were made and Manly made the finals in 2005 as well as every year since.

You also stumbled on one of the best, most progressive coaches in the game in Des Hasler. He would've done the same with a basketcase Souths because he is a genuinely good coach

Though we probably would have fired him for not getting us into the finals in the first year to be honest. That was our main problem, too much in fighting. Things haven't happened over night under Russel, but its a hell of a lot better now

I think there's more to it than stumbling across a good coach. Manly have won grand finals in each of the last 5 decades for good reason. Grand finals appearances are never far apart (97-07 was the biggest gap since the first appearance in 1951 and that was interrupted by 3 years of Northern Eagles).

Yeah the silvertails throwing money around had a lot to do with that. This past decade, its been the coach though. You cannot argue you'd have been as sucessful without Hasler
