If he has gone, it’s due to Flanagan offering Gutho fullback money to extend his career, is that sensible or a big risk. Don’t believe that was on the cards for an extension at the Eels.On the Jam & Cheese podcast, Jam reckons Gutho is gorne -> Dragons.
Yes, the Reg scenario. If he has gone, it’s due to Flanagan offering Gutho fullback money to extend his career, is that sensible or a big risk. Don’t believe that was on the cards for an extension at the Eels.
Maybe Flanagan has convinced him to start in the 6 now that Hunt is as good as gone. Flanagan Jnr at 7, Gutho 6, Sloan 1 and Cook 9...If he has gone, it’s due to Flanagan offering Gutho fullback money to extend his career, is that sensible or a big risk. That spine aint making a dent.Maybe Flanagan has convinced him to start in the 6 now that Hunt is as good as gone. Flanagan Jnr at 7, Gutho 6, Sloan 1 and Cook 9...
Its a short term fix wont help them long term.If he has gone, it’s due to Flanagan offering Gutho fullback money to extend his career, is that sensible or a big risk. Don’t believe that was on the cards for an extension at the Eels.
Yep. Age, injuries, lack of talent and a lack of willingness to try and tackle across that foursome....That spine aint making a dent.
I reckon even further. That 500k would be directly related to how well he transitions to a new role and I think every year beyond 2026 is a risk at that amountIts a short term fix wont help them long term.
I think the consensus from most Parra fans i have spoken too is we don't want to lose him but anything more then 500-550k is really a detriment moving forward on the cap and affecting any chance we have getting success.
It's got everything you wouldn't want in a spine, the only thing it's missing is baldness.Yep. Age, injuries, lack of talent and a lack of willingness to try and tackle across that foursome....
Gutho occasionally shaves his headIt's got everything you wouldn't want in a spine, the only thing it's missing is baldness.
They might have hair, but trust me, that spine is bald baby!!!It's got everything you wouldn't want in a spine, the only thing it's missing is baldness.
Did Flanagan have a brutally honest convo with him and say he’s the 23rd best fullback in the NRL?I heard that the Dragons/Flanagan have basically given up on Sloan being their long-term fullback.
Not sure how true it is.
A recent SMH article reported that Lomax said he thought Gutherson would form a good partnership with Hunt, implying he would play 6.Maybe Flanagan has convinced him to start in the 6 now that Hunt is as good as gone. Flanagan Jnr at 7, Gutho 6, Sloan 1 and Cook 9...
Yep, it doesn't matter how good a player is if you're paying too much. Its a short term fix wont help them long term.
I think the consensus from most Parra fans i have spoken too is we don't want to lose him but anything more then 500-550k is really a detriment moving forward on the cap and affecting any chance we have getting success.
So were stuck where we basically have to let him go if the Dragons are willing offering 750-800k a season. You can't be competing with that at this stage of his career.
Maybe history is repeating
Wayne Bennett moved on the King in 1990 and he won 2 x comps with a younger roster a couple of years later.
While poor old Wally was stuck at the Seagulls winning spoons for fun
No direct quote from Lomax on Hunt there, and/or on what position Gutherson might play if he heads to the Dragons. I don't trust the journo's take without a direct quote.A recent SMH article reported that Lomax said he thought Gutherson would form a good partnership with Hunt, implying he would play 6.
"St George Illawarra are reportedly in the mix for Gutherson, and Lomax said his old club would be a great fit, and that the Eels skipper could forge a handy on-field combination with Ben Hunt if he stayed put."

YesI heard that the Dragons/Flanagan have basically given up on Sloan being their long-term fullback.

Probably the Dragons fans' theories in their League Unlimited forum?Sure but the journo got the idea from somewhere.
Give them some credit, they're paid professionals after all!I don't trust them to think outside the box. They are likely to assume that Gutherson the fullback will be going wherever he goes to keep playing fullback.
