Longhurst signed by Newcastle Knights

I keep hearing Pat could be the best of the lot

That's because he very well could. Pete himself rates Pat the best of the Mata'utia clan, and he will be easily the biggest. He's already Pete's size and he's only in Year 10.

I don't like making enormous statements about young blokes but it is entirely possible that Pete, Chanel and Pat could line up together in first grade one day. Hope it's for us....

I know for a fact that Peter Mata'utia has been wanting to leave for the Bulldogs for a while now. He is originally from Bankstown and played all his junior footy there before moving to Newcastle when he was 13. The Bulldogs have been approaching him every time he has been off-contract but the Knights always come back to the table with a better offer that he can't refuse.

He's signed up till the end of 2011 and even if he is from Bankstown I don't see him leaving his family and moving back to Sydney on his own

Pete is looking fit in this photo of Samoa training - although the ear ring and rat tail is very '90s'.

Roopy, I am a big fan of your work on this site. If you were to name the SG Ball side for next year, what would your team be?

From what I know, maybe something like this:

1. William Smith
2. Nathan Cooper
3. Chanel Mata'utia-Leifi
4. Dale Clacherty
5. Pat Mata'utia-Leifi
6. Tyler Sullivan
7. Shay Padberg
8. Tye Alchin
9. Chris Knight
10. David Longhurst
11. Kori Barber
12. Dale Versteppen
13. Chad Redman (c)

14. Adam Clydesdale
15. Ben Bradley
16. Jason Savin
17. Jeremy Ma'a

I didn't watch them much last year, but it's nearly the Mathews side from 2008, so i can tell you a bit.

1. William Smith - Skinny aboriginal kid who plays mostly in the halves - he is decent but not special.
2. Nathan Cooper - Small but fast winger with very good positional play.
3. Chanel Mata'utia-Leifi - Middle brother who isn't as strong as Pat or as tricky as Pete, but might be the fastest.
4. Dale Clacherty - big centre - top try scorer last year - hard to stop.
5. Pat Mata'utia-Leifi - Hardest bloke to stop from 10 out I've seen since Kurt Gidley - if he can't go round em he powers over the top.
6. Tyler Sullivan - Has as much game as Jarrod Mullen at the same age - my tip for Carlsen medal winner.
7. Shay Padberg - little halfback with a good running and kicking game, but his passing game sucks.
8. Tye Alchin - The grandson of Mad Mick Alchin - nuff said probably
9. Chris Knight - tiny little bloke who scores a heap of tries from dummy half.
10. David Longhurst - new kid from qld
11. Kori Barber - can't remember him
12. Dale Versteppen - new kid from NZ
13. Chad Redman (c) - speedy centre in Mathews and built like a brick outhouse - played halfback for Hunter sports high this year - clever, strong and mature leader.

14. Adam Clydesdale - grandson of Aus captain Don 'Bandy' Adams - his older brother plays for Penrith in NYC and trialled for firstgrade this year - both boys have been NSW reps - both are excellent hookers.
15. Ben Bradley - short and solid prop - only runs straight and hard - doesn't know how to step sideways.
16. Jason Savin - like Bradley, only more solid
17. Jeremy Ma'a - huge kid who scores at will from 10 out, when he can be bothered to have a run - could be the best player in the side if he had a go more than 3 times a game.

i think u have under-rated chanel, he may not always have the attacking sting of his brothers but his defence is brutal

tye alchin is a strong aggressive front rower, from wat i saw of him in harold matthews he has a very impressive work rate aswell, however knee injuries plagued his year

chad redman is my favourite lol would b a great player to play wit but a prick to play against lol

the rest i do not have enough knowledge on to comment on, thanks for the help, from what uv sed the team looks strong
