Personally, I would’ve thought the answer is straightforward.

Merrin for Latimore.
Thompson for Leilua, whose fitness and consistency at NRL level is questionable.
You have to be joking when you say Merrin for Latimore, it certainly gave me a laugh. Merrin left, because Penrith/Gould payed overs for him, I think it was around 700K. lol They then released him early from his contract so he could go and play ESL. Penrith were shopping him around and couldn't offload him to another NRL club. Latimore would be lucky to be on 170K plus.

I would much rather we have Leilua than Thompson. If Debelin isn't allowed to play, then I am predicting Lucky to have a breakout season. He will also be in my supercoach team if he gets a start in the secondrow. Letting Thompson go was a masterstroke by Millward and co. It gave Tariq the chance to play second row. He then went onto be the best secondrower in the comp last year.

Jeepers...have you seen the Knights side at full strength. Not bad either. They have a few good ones and pace too!

You realise Merrin is a NSW and Kangaroos’ standard player, and that although solid, Latimore is barely a bench player? If not, you’re the one who must be joking.

As many have said, Jeremy L. wouldn’t get a look in with too many other clubs.

Merrin’s misfortunes that you referred to are completely irrelevant in my opinion.

Personally, I find Thompson and Leilua are similar because both suffer from the malaise I mentioned previously, although as the much older player Thompson has plateaued.

There’s no argument that Sims is far superior to JT, but to call it a ‘masterpiece’ from Millward is a bit of a stretch.

That’s not the point.

Will Latimore ever reach those heights? This is a more important question.
Yes.

Not only did he reach those heights, they even reached the summit in the same team:

I don't get your point. Merrin was on a contract for $700k a year, Latimore around 100-150......how is it fair to compare that pair?

Btw, on 2018 form.....I rather have Lats in the team than the ex Blue Kangaroo dancing Nancy.

The ‘point’ is rudimentary; Merrin is easily the superior player and would greatly enhance a forward pack that could do with another prop.

BTW on 2010-2017 form, I’d rather have “Mez” than a plodder who’s been through more clubs than Tiger Woods.

Merrin wasn't even bad in 2018. He had some dips in form but still averaged over 100m a game and returned to some of his absolute best late in the season (after Griffin was dumped)

That said, Merrin wasn’t the player he was destined to be but that coincided with the folly of moving him to lock forward.
