Sadly it's been groundhog day for at least the past 2 years.

"Wilshere played well, will feature this season"

" Walcott carved up"

" Young Player X impressed".

Whilst I'm not dismissing the optimism, I'm trying to not get too excited. Although I will agree, this year is more promising than previous years.

When you consider the improved squad harmony after the final departure or 'weeding out' of the sooks (Gallas, Adebayor, Toure), the promising 3/4 of last season and resilience in light of media criticism and speculation, one would assume morale is quite high. Especially if media reports are anything to go by.

I haven't seen any odds for the Scouse game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us with shorter odds than expected.

I agree with most of what you have said. Nah dont have ATVO.

I think Wilshere will have an important role to play for Arsenals season, the Bolton loan seems to have done him wonders and given Arsene more faith in him. Walcott has frankly been a disappointment for the past 2 years, Im not expecting much out of him. I am however very excited to see Nasri hit the ground running this season fully fit and to see if Song can continue his rise to one of the worlds best defensive midfielders.

Couldnt agree more about Gallas and Adebayor, good riddance. I still miss Toure though.

Arsenal still need to sign a keeper and another defender at a bare minimum before I will consider them genuine title contenders. Im checking every morning without fail, hoping to see theyve signed some new players.

You and me both!

Aimlessly jumping on the Arsenal site every morning to check - How boring the offseason is.

I hope Wilshere fires this season, he has the potential to be an important and quality player. I'm not sure what his strongest position is though? CM? AM? RM? He has the technical skill to be an attacking player, but also the vision to be a central midfielder.

Maybe a typical "#10"?

I agree with your sentiments about Nasri. He'll have a point to prove after being left out of the WC squad, but with Blanc not playing any of the 2010 squad in their next Friendly, I'd expect to see Samir there. Rosicky's in the same boat, he wasn't able to do much last season for obvious reasons, but with a full and injury free off season under his belt he should hopefully click back into form.

Would have been nice if Toure stayed, but IMO Citeh paid more than his worth, so I'm somewhat satisfied. There's a lot of Arsenal.com press talking up Nordveit after his spell with Nurenberg. I can see him challenging for a bench spot.

A new keeper is a must, although as the season gets closer my expectations dwindle.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Spahic's move to Arsenal is close to being finalised for 6m :

I had no idea Montpellier finished fifth - That's huge.

Also, Jay Simpson is close to moving to Hull for 1.2 :

"Starlet" Henri Lansbury may join either Newcastle or WBA on loan :

Good news about Saphic. Rumours again that Arsene is going to make a move for Joe Hart. I'll be over the moon if Arsenal get him.

There's no way he'll start in front of Given this season and of course would be demanding 1st team football..

Saphic and Hart, I'd be very happy with that.

"The Arsenal captain was the first player to take to the pitch and was given a rapturous reception by those fans inside the stadium. The Spaniard, who is believed to have told Arsene Wenger two months ago of his desire to return to Barcelona, responded with applause of his own."

All good signs, I don't think any of us really had any doubt.

But, why is he clutching his crotch? Maybe too much time spent with Pique?

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has released a statement claiming that he will remain at the club this summer and that he will be 100% committed to the Gunners.

Fabregas: Happy to remain at the Emirates

Fabregas, 24, was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, who had two bids in the region of £30 million rejected this summer. But the midfielder now insists he will be staying at the Emirates after weeks of speculation.

"Firstly I would like to apologise to all the Arsenal fans for not speaking sooner about my future but I have not known what I was going to do until this moment,'' he said. "I cannot deny that joining a club like Barcelona was not an attractive move for me.
"This was the club where I learnt my football, it is my home town where my friends and family are and a club where I have always dreamed of playing. There are not many players in the world who would not want to play for Barcelona.

"I have had many conversations with Arsene Wenger both in person and over the phone over the last few months and although the content of those conversations will remain private, the conclusion is that Barcelona have had two formal offers rejected by Arsenal.''
Fabregas admits that he owes a lot to the club and that, as he will not be allowed to move this summer, he will be fully focused on bringing a trophy to the Emirates for the first time in five years.

"I am a professional and I fully understand that it is Arsenal's prerogative not to sell me,'' he said. ''I owe a lot to the club, manager and the fans and I will respect their decision and will now concentrate on the new season ahead with Arsenal.
"I can assure all the fans that now the negotiations have ended I will be 100% focused on playing for Arsenal. I am an Arsenal player and as soon as I step out on to the pitch, that is the only club I will be thinking about. I am looking forward to the start of the season and putting this speculation behind me."

Barcelona released a statement lamenting the failure to sign Fabregas while emphasising they never bid more than €40 million for a player they lost for nothing.
The statement said: "In the light of the statement released today regarding the contractual future of Cesc Fabregas, FC Barcelona regrets the decision of Arsenal FC to declare the player not for sale and their decision not to take into consideration the offers proposed. None of those offers, in any way, exceeded 40 million euros.''

No surprises there.

However, in Flappyhandski's defence, Sczenzy started the game and conceded three.

Other way around.

Fabianski started the game and was atrocious, his decision making is beyond comprehension and his effort on the second goal was highlight reel blooper stuff.

Woj played the second half and wasnt at fault for either of the two goals conceded.

FMD, my bad.

Apologies to Wojech!

I love his reaction after the first goal - Blames the defence for conceding a goal fired from outside the box that was totally stoppable.

Mirror are reporting that Arsene has turned his sights to Given, possibly on loan.

Second goal, what the f*ck was he doing? I've seen four year olds who are more dominant than him.

How good was Chamakh's goal?

Yeah Chamakhs goal was very classy.

Day by day we're getting closer to the seasons kick off and still no sign of a CB or a GK.

And less likely either will happen.

If a new 'keeper comes from within the EPL, I can see it being more likely to happen. For example, Given -> Arsenal would be an easy transition. Compared to Frey > Arsenal for example.

Given would be near the top of my GK wishlist tbh.

Not even any transfer rumours anymore. Looks like we'll be forever made to finish 3rd or 4th. Especially considering Chelsea or Man U will get Ozill.

Seriously there's no way Wenger can let go Gallas, Silvestre and Campbell and only sign one replacement. FMD Arsenals defence last season was pathetic.

It's a sad state of affairs when Arsenal can't even sign an unknown Bosnian from Montsomethingorratherpilla.
