A couple of points:
  • Lots of effort, pride in defence, good stuff boys. Not much guile though and poor bench management made it hard for an unfit Cleary and behemoth Kikau to make an impact;
  • I don't get the hate for Tamou. The three props played 35 minutes each. He made nearly double the tackles of Tetevano whom had 60 kick return metres in his 116m gain. He made 10 more tackles than Leota at greater efficiency % and the same number of contact metres. Our props didn't cost us the game;
  • Our use of the bench is mystifying. Burton was used for 13 minutes. I don't understand why Kikau is never spelled. He is bigger than the Death Star and gets gassed, he needs rest. Put Burton at Lock, Yeo in Kikau's place. If you're not going to do that, don't put Burton on the bench. I know Capewell was injured, but even so, you need to change your game plan as events unfold;
  • No disrespect to Luai, but I don't see how Luai is better than Burton. He doesn't go looking for the ball and goes missing for long periods. Cleary had double the number of receipts of the ball;
  • Cleary received the ball 73 times to Luai's 31. The question is why? Cleary was on his first game back and had the worst tackle percentage in the team. Not his fault, he is not match fit yet, but why stress him by giving him the ball all the time? For double the amount of ball he delivered, nil assists, nil tries, nil line break assists. He tried his guts out, but that is just dumb coaching, a common theme with Dave's mate;
  • Why is Dean Whare still in the team? He must have more than just a picture of the coach in a compromising position. I'm thinking a 4k HD movie with Dolby Atmos and actual DNA evidence. Once again, an invisible attacking performance and yes I know he is a great defender, but the game has two sides and his attack is blunter than a paper mâché machete.

I honesty don’t think we’ve ever got the best out of Viliame. I agree 100% he does not need to play the full 80. He would have more impact in attack with less minutes even if our attaching structures are never going to create too many opportunities for him.

Defence is a big part of the game, but I agree solid just ain’t gonna get the job done and secure enough points to win games. Brent Naden is a real goer and has shown he is a try scorer so really probably not much to lose by swapping the two.

Halves were brilliant.

Welcome back Edwards. Brilliant game.

Crichton is getting a bath recently. I guess we persist as we know how good he is going to be.

Yeo/JFH both excellent. Yeo in particular has come back a much better player in 2020.

I must be missing something here. If I am not mistaken Josh Mansour probably ran more more metres than anyone else and he is only rating 5 or 5.5. I must be missing something or perhaps overly biased. Because I just thought Josh was massive again.

Too many clangers. I'd give him a 3 if it wasn't for the metres.

I’m sorry I just don’t get what we expect from Josh. I jest checked the metres on NRL and he delivered more than any other player on the field.

I don’t get it. I really don’t. He has his limitations but seriously his work bringing the ball back is better than any other winger in the NRL and we need his metres. They are invaluable.

Edwards 8 - Huge upgrade. Loved the quick hands in the early move that got him crunched. Very good game.
Mansour 6 - Massive meters but looked wobbly in all other aspects of the game.
Chrichton 6 - Makes our left much more dangerous in attack but shaky without the ball. Munsters pass was sublime but you need to be able to deal with great players making big plays at this level. Two weeks in a row he's not done that.
Whare 6 - Good defensively. That's it.
To'o 8 - Best outside back at the club. What a rise for this kid.
Luai 7 - Made big plays when he injected himself. Defense was outstanding. Plenty of improvement in him too.
Cleary 8 - Conducted the match masterfully.
Tamou 6 - A bit low energy.
Api 8 - Outstanding again. His work for Crichtons try was delicious.
JFH 8 - Monster.
Kikau 7 - We still struggle to unleash him but he takes it out on opposition ball runners. He devours them more than tackles them.
Martin 7 - Very dangerous with the ball and appears to have lost his regular oopsies. Big fan.
Yeo 8 - Silky hands. Tons of meters and tackles. So good to have him back to his best.

Burton N/A
Leota 6 - Ran extremely hard. Would like to see him get more game time.
Tetevano 6 - Decent effort. Nice hit on Finucane.
Burns 4- Didn't get much time and gave away a dumb penalty to release a sustained period of pressure.

Our bench rotation was perfect tonight
Well except for not using burton, but Tetevano and Leota were damaging in attack and defence, that kept us rolling

Halves were excellent
Edwards had a brilliant game, safe!
Whare also safe, keeps that edge blocked, gets To'o the space he needs.
To'o was solid, strong running meters
Mansour great running meters, but poor carries, the dragons game!, last week his final touch, and todays bungled offload in our end, stupid stuff, he has brain farts of glory days, pushing bad passes. He is a fail for me, dropped and replaced with Naden to be my prefered option. Too much of a risk going forward Mansour is, a much needed reality check for sauce.

Crichton is getting better but being young in the centres will paint a target on your front, eels last week exploited that, he will take time, we have a good run for the rest of the year, only manly and canberra to worry about, really the rest of the games seem very winable.

All in all a game i expected to be either losing close or not win period
And came out better even without the rub of the green in the set restarts department.

But in the bigger picture of the team game, forcing a pass in your end zone, just puts HUGE pressure on our already tired forward pack, i don't mind if he does it on their 20, but FOR FUX SAKE STOP GIFTING THEM BALL IN OUR OWN 20!!!
I also am with fangs here, Naden will get those same running meters, and probably we wont have to defend so much.

Btw he gets those meters coz oppositions are targeting his wing, its great for him personally getting recognized for his numbers, and carrying it back,
but if your not getting targeted.... im sure To'o being a tough returner, and teams are focusing on mansours airplay too. He is just getting more ball.
I wonder how marion sive and vunalalu running meters measured, Nathan just kept peppering Sive all game

BUT SIR! HE'S BEEN DOING ALL DAY SIR!!
