In all of Jennings time in fg for Penrith our best year was 2010. Jennings scored 1 try that year.

I think you have your years mixed up. I know he had 1 lean year, but I'm certain it wasn't 2010. I remember him scoring a solo 60 meter effort from dummy half against the titans that year. I also think he scored another in that game alone.

Had 2 poor years 2011 and 2012. Don't let the 10 tries in 17 games in 2012 fool you he was a passenger most the year. Cleary dropped him to reserve grade once or twice that year.

Had year mixed up, thanks for the correction.

Jennings is an absolute gun who played almost all his Penrith career in total rubbish teams

This is true but i would Jennings rarely put 100% in for us, especially in his last couple years here.

The Jennings the roosters have is not the Jennings we had, he's basically admitted that himself. He was super talented but lazy player with us. Thats how I see Jennings anyway.

But not because of form, it was because we wanted him gone. If it was form, Tighe wouldn't have been selected ahead of him.

He wasnt at his best, but he was still our best centre.

He might of been out best centre(not really saying much) but he was also our most overpaid player, he was not coming close to earning his money. One of our least disciplined players as well as one of our laziest on the field.

He scored 11 tries in two seasons, minus the games he was injured, and probably got paid somewhere in the vicinity of a million dollars in that time.

What does value for money have to do with how good a player was for us? He was overpaid, but that wasn't his fault. That was our management.

He was our best centre from his debut game until he left us.His career was spent with Walsh feeding him the ball and Elliott coming up with game plans to use our best attacking weapon.

Nothing really, just pointing out that he deserves that tag of "overpaid: and "lazy" more then "all time" or "great" for what he did in his time at Penrith.

So Jennings gets no fault for being an absolute passenger his last two seasons here? Thats all someone elses fault and not his?

He wasnt a passenger anymore then anyone else. we had a terrible squad in his final seasons with us. A centre is only as good as the ball and space he gets. He got neither unless he went for dummy half runs.

You could count the amount of times Walsh gave him space on one hand. Unlike Idris he isnt effective without room to move. His footwork and acceleration is what makes him dangerous, our dud halves and game plans let him down. As did losing Pritchard and having him as the only player on that side of the field worth defending.

Jenko could bring the exact same effort he had those two seasons into our current squad and would be our leading try scorer easily. Put Whare into our 2011 side and he wouldn't be near as good either. A player can only do so much on their own, unless youre blessed with ridiculous size and power like Inglis or Hayne.

Form attitude who cares he didn't put in. There have been plenty of players over the years that were shown the door but refused to give up and played good football (think Kingston).
With Tighe and Purtell on the books a fat overweight prop could have been our best centre.

He looked like he was trying too hard in some games and was getting frustrated he couldn't make anything happen. Its unfair to simply say he wasnt trying because he only scored one try in a season for us. Even with that terrible strike rate in that season, he still had a ridiculous strike rate for us.

Some people like to blame Jennings and Lewis for the way things ended up. But the club is just as guilty in how things went down with these guys. We wanted them to leave, and treated them poorly to make them want to leave and not have to cop it on the books for the length of their contracts.

Kingston was simply told he wasnt needed the following year, so he was playing for his future and ended up getting another year with us. but really he wasnt a high quality hooker for his last 2 or 3 seasons with us regardless of how hard he tried. His effect on our reserve grade side was massive though.

There were reasons they weren't wanted around the club which had nothing to do with their on-field performance.

Good points Mick.

Gould would probable be our best coach because he got us to two GF's and Lang only one. I would hope Jennings would have performed well under him because he would have been managed differently from the start and not indulged by somebody soft like ME. We'll never know...

Jennings having a bad year (I don't think he had two bad years), is still better than Bradley, Izzard and Bentley playing a blinder. I agree that he should have got off his behind and gone looking for the ball, but he had a poor coach and mentor in ME and look how good he is with the right environment. Many times he won games for us with his brilliance. Girdler and Fittler are the only two centres who could say similar.

We will never agree on where Fittler should play if we are picking our best team. You think 20 odd games isn't enough and I do and like the added bonus of putting Jennings in the team. It's an interesting debate which highlights we can't wait for the real thing to start.
:)

We will agree to disagree but it is good one can have a healthy banter without the need to insult one another or pontificate ones knowledge and I commend you on that.
Good point on Elliotts soft management of Jennings that is a point I had overlooked.
I agree with you about team balance Jennings at centre and Fittler at five eight but I just can't vote for Fittler at Five eight, too many good memories of him out wide. :D and again my grapple with so little time at five eight in his years at the club.
