Melboure.
10 years
can't get a crowd
can't train a junior
can't make a profit

Newcastle
20 years
crowd averaging just under 20k over 20 years
trained around 150 juniors to NRL level
made a profit 18 out of 20 years.

1. crowd averaging just under 20k over 20 years: That's because there's nothing else to do and no competion in Boganville.

2. trained around 150 juniors to NRL level: Well seeing as it's a rugby league area you'd sort of expect that. In fact i'm surprised it's not more.

3. made a profit 18 out of 20 years: See number 1

.

Hey champ, you do realise that in the Knights 10th year (yes, even the year they won the premiership), they averaged less people to matches than the Storm in their 10th year?

Try again!

What's more, why do you bother lying about your average H&A crowd stats over 20 years?

You average 15.8k over 20 years - or is 4.2k 'just under'?

Right, the storm average 'just under' 40k as well.

Yet on the flipside, when the Storm develops players like Reynoldson, Cross, Sargent, Cooper and the Knights 'poach' them, you don't expect us to be pissed off?

Get off the high horses, guys.

bwahahahahahaha

Reynoldson - QLDer "developed" by the Broncos and Eels before he came near you.

Cross - Canberra FGer before he came to you.

Sargent - from Coondiwinda - came to you in his 20s

like comparing chalk and cheese.

we don't begrudge you success, but you must acknowledge your undeniable status as talent leaches. Hell, our organisation even put money into Inglis - then he shat on our state...

....next you will be claiming Kimmorley, Ross and Hill....

1997 - SUPER LEAGUE YEAR

2007 - LEAGUE AT ALL TIME HIGHS

real convincing argument you have there....

why dont we try - Newcastle 350k people, Melbourne what, 3mil?

and dont give me this shyte about being an AFL town - geniusation of the general populace of Melbourne is not an excuse...

Yet we developed him into the player who was poached by Newcastle for an exorbitant amount of money (240k or so, wasn't it? Happy with the further development he's made under you?)

Became a rep player under us. Fair to say that if he had joined Newcastle instead of Melbourne when he did, he'd be cut by now.

From where? Right, going by that, Mullen was from Taree, yet i'm sure you want to claim him for your own.

Yet the Knights are more than happy to poach youngsters like Wicks, Naqaima, Zeb Taia, St George Illawarra Dragons, Cooper Vuna etc etc etc

Want to tell me how your organisation put money into him? :sarcasm:

 You'll use any excuse. Who cares if it was Super League year. Crowds remained the same to pre-Super League for the next 5 years after the 'war'.

Even if it was Super League, care to tel me why the Knights averaged a mere 15k for the 9 years 'before' the war? stats.rugbyleage.com

You must be related to roopy - both of you are somehow able to manipulate stats for your choosing.

Try Newcastle having apopulation of 520,000, yet still 16.8k to home matches and an overall H&A average of 15,687.

Storm despite living in an AFL city (which you pointed out, noone else), have an average of 14,130.

You'd think that in a city with only 1 team (of any sport), they'd average better crowds than that.

No, instead they value their own mediocrity and aim to perpetually disappoint their fans.

Are you kidding me? Novocastrians have been using it as an excuse for their existence since 1800.

you guys simply dont get it.

the Knights are part owned by the Newcastle RL.

the Newcastle RL puts millions into developing juniors.

they could spend this money on poaching other's juniors for the Knights, but instead put it into developing our own.

and clubs like the storm come swooping in and take the fruits of our labour - without funding their own juniors at all. Infact not many clubs do fund their own juniors - I believe Newc, Wests, StGeo, Souths, Rooters (ha!) and Parra are almost it.

and then the leach clubs seem mystified that we are a tad pizzed about it.

I can understand your dissapointment when promising players choose to go elsewhere (in a democracy, fancy that) but your anger should be directed at your own club and questions asked why he didnt want to play there

But Ill say it again clubs have been signing promising players from other areas for decades, we just have to do it to more then most as we have no local juniors yet.

There I said it , are you happy now, I feel so ashamed and dirty that we have 6 kangaroo juniors on our books.

Or that we took a chance on Inglis when no other team wanted him.

Or we gave DJ a chance when he was considered to small.

Or that Ben Cross was a penalty giving, high shot merchant when we took him on and have turned him into one of the most realiable and ferocious props in the game and the Newcastle Knights will now reap the benefits of the effort belly-ache has put into him.

Damn you Knights, damn you all to hell for stealing our project players.

you do realise he was FOURTEEN when you signed him, right....?

my anger is that some clubs bear the cost of junior structures, some clubs cherrypick with the money they should be spending on junior structures.

Seriously, time to get over your penis envy you insignificant farmer's illegitimate daughters.

1995 21,205
1996a 17,476
1997 14,249
1998 20,769
1999 20,878
2000 18,864
2001 17,876
2002 18,713
2003 18,290
2004 17,222
2005 18,468
2006 22,063

Counting away games in your averages is a joke.

You must be working out the population of Newcastle using the same calculator you use to work out crowd figures (counting everyone twice).

by my calculations we get 7 percent of the population of Newcastle to a home game. If you could do that you would have a crowd of 210k.

Peter O'Sullivan is on record saying that he was told by other clubs that Inglis wasnt worth the trouble of signing.

we tried to get him whilst he was at HSH and he was already signed.

not many kids get contracted at 14 - he might even be one of the first?
