Should Robert Lui be deregistered by the NRL?

That bloke should read up on a bloke named Jeff Farmer and see what happened to his "footy" career after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend...

Sponsors take big notice when they get negative publicity.
If the sponsors are paying for a convicted wife beater and it's bringing media attention it damages their brand. Stupid choice by the cOwboys to sign a human who has a history of beating a pregnant women.

but only if they can see it actually affecting their $$

no one is going to say they're not using the telstra network cos they sponsor the nrl and robert lui wasnt deregisted. no one is going to say they wont buy toyota cos they sponsor the cows - "I'll go buy a piece of shit instead because robert lui wore a jersey which said toyota on it"

the sponsors pay the club - not the individual. individual sponsorship's would be a different story

I signed the online petition. The ARLC should rub this grub out of our game for two years at least.

News has just been broken on Fox Sports News

No official word from the Cowboys.

"Lui has been banned for one year by the ARL commission and will not be permitted to play in the NRL." - Ryan Phelan

More to be added as it comes.

Well, it's a start I guess.

One year from the start of this year? His last game? Sentencing? Now?

Interesting decision, and a good one. Would it have happened if the guy in Brisbane hadn't dug up the issue again though?

Good, the cowboys should have saved face and done it themselves.............. mind you they should never have signed him in the first f**king place.

Agreed, I would have preferred if we had been the ones to do the right thing and ban him ourselves, or sack him altogether. It's not a great look when the nrl has to step in and do what should have been an easy decision for the club to make. Anyway, it's done now and hopefully Thompson keeps up his good form and makes it impossible for Lui to get a look in when his ban is up.

Absolute kneejerk reaction to a organisation petrified by the feminists running the country and the media that counts such as sensationalist tabloids like the Tele and left of centre broadsheets with a agenda such as the SMH..

The man has committed a crime and been dealt with by the courts and should be able to continue his employment..

It's absurd to create a political point by the extreme feminists by making gender central to the crime..

1 in 3 victims of DV are male and yet 100% of DV related funding to fight DV goes to womens groups despite the same feminists demanding and insisting women are equal in all aspects..

Again - 300 victims of DV in a room - 100 are Male..

I wonder of Freedom of Info would uncover how many female employees of rugby league, whether they be cheerleaders, Club office staff, wives etc etc guilty of DV given those figures I have stated and provided a link for below and whether they have lost their jobs..

And yes, I have been falsely accused of DV and I didn't much like it..

We live in a society where when people commit crimes lesser than murder, they are generally given an (arguably) suitable punishment and then allowed to continue on with their life, sometimes with restrictions and having to deal with the repercussions and lingering feelings of their actions.

Lui beat someone up. Yes it was a female and he should be punished. Is gender really the difference between a few weeks on the sideline and a life ban for a similar crime?

He has been punished by both the courts and the ARLC. His career opportunities will be limited by his actions (and the associated publicity) both on and off the field. Let the bloke play footy next year, with appropriately high levels of sledging and hatred. It's probably all he's good for anyway.
