Luke Lewis Reported To Leave... Again

I never really warmed to Lewis and wasn't really all that sad to see him go given the disruption he is said to have caused. Gordon pissed me off, us paying him to get over two major injuries and then as soon as he is fit, f**king off elsewhere. (Of course, we probably low-balled him because of those injuries, but still.....).

Hmm if I dont show up to work for 2 years, I don't expect a pay rise when i get back. Ok, he cant help injury, but come on. I painfully sit through an occasional Nulla game, and whatever agility he use to have has left him, pretty average.

Couldn't understand how he was picked for state of origin this year. Out injured after the World Cup. Plays 1 or 2 games then straight into the Blues team.

Anyway the blues won.

I know many people here have jumped on the hate Luke Lewis bandwagon. But I still love the bloke and honestly he didn't really do anything that bad. He could have handled things a bit better like Tim Grant and Kevin Kingston have. But at the end of the day the club wasn't exactly treating him that well either. We have seemingly gone out of our way to make players want out.

It works out well for the club when we get rid of overpaid players. But I can't blame them for wanting to stick it back to us for doing so.

Worked out well for us in hindsight, but I'm with MX. I can't dislike the bloke & wish him well.

At the end of the day, Lewis wanted out and the club is bigger than one player. But a lot of my respect for him disappeared after that press conference. Poor form on his behalf.

He was happy to leave because he wanted a competitive team to finish his career at........you backed the wrong horse haha. Penrith won't finished lower than the sharks for at least the next 3 years

It was the press conference in Sharks colours while still contracted that did it for me. That with the dummy spit was it

The club didn't exactly treat him well. Nor has it treated the other players who we paid overs to keep. It isn't their fault our previous management was stupid enough to throw so much money at them.

It might have been in poor taste to hold a press conference, but I'm sure if things hadn't been so bitter between him and the club it wouldn't have happened. Can't blame a player for having feelings. We played our part in the way it all happened. So I won't stop rating the bloke as a champion when he was pretty clearly unwanted by us.

I'm just happy it worked out in our best interest.

If the rumours about the player group being too powerful and practically picking the team themselves were true, who do you think was leading that group?

Sure, it wasn't their fault they were given outrageous contracts, but for a guy who wanted to be playing finals footy he wasn't prepared to sacrifice much (maybe some salary or power) to get there.

So was happy for a contracted player to come out in another teams colours? The original presser was fine the 2nd with Flanagan wasn't

The whole Luke Lewis episode leaving for the Sharks is ancient history guys.

Lewis gave us great service and is one of our all time greats and should be held in high esteem regardless of what transpired in his leaving the club. Time to forgive. He has moved on, we have moved on but we should always remember him as the great player and clubman he was.

It's a hard one he played over 200 games so really deserves respect for that. Though his attitude at the end and the Lewis in Origin was rarely the Lewis we saw at club level. To me means he wont be a great down the track

Lewis was used correctly in Origin. Wide running back rower.
We used him as a playmaking, ball playing backrower, often in the centre.
It was part poor coaching, part necessity in a crap team but he wasn't used to his potential at club level. I certainly think he was one of few players who left it all on the field for us during that period.
Sour ending but he was our best player over 2005-2011. Not many highlights in that time so he may not go down as a club legend but one of my favourite players.

He played in the middle for a good part of game 1 like most of his minutes and was very effective.
