Perhaps. But in every, EVERY, interview I have heard with Gus he has said that he is not there to look after the football side of things but the BUSINESS side of things. He has repeatedly said he is not spending time on football because the business is far more pressing.

That doesn't mean he can't have help. You also forget he no doubt has the expertise of a very shrewd businessman in Warren Wilson that he cold call on for advice and help if need be.

Could of got 3 extra quality players.

Yeah but lets face it, we actually got 4. Say what you want about Gould (and he's lost a huge amount of goodwill over this) but those signings are a long way above anything we've managed in the last 5 years (Petero aside).

He's lost no goodwill with me, he is doing what needs to be done, Lewis wasn't happy and didn't want to stay at a club that was rebuilding, his choice entirely
what people are forgetting is Lewis ASKED for the release he wasn't pushed

lol

Yeah, sure......

Knew a bloke, was very senior is his role. New management came in, could not just get rid of him, so they stripped him of any power, and gave him nothing to do.

He quit after sometime. He ASKED for the release, he was not pushed.......

That's using the outside payments for NEXT season. IF we used them for THIS season. We could have 3 decent players or 1 superstar.

Really!

I knew this bloke who held a high position, had respect from all around him, well payed and looked after but left because that wasn't enough.

What interests me is what Gus is accountable for. What is Moss accountable for.

And Warren Wilson's record as a businessman is interesting. Before claiming he is shrewd you should look at what Tabcorp was before he took over and what it was like by the time he finished.

This. Taking things at face value (because anything else is speculation), Lewis was unhappy and requested out. Gus could've done everything in his power to force him to stay, but chose to let him go.

Also, keep in mind that we lost Gordon and then signed Whare pretty soon after. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a contingency plan in place.

I am aware he asked for the release. My issue is: Petero & Lewis both fine players both still SOO quality. Off the field only last week Lewis won an award for his work with white ribbon. Petero had similar awards. Surely this is the culture we want?

so why have both wanted to leave? Apparently today was reported (a mate told me he read it somewhere) that some players have been asked to for go the rise when the cap goes up.

If that's true. If it's that bad we need a big name out. We have that now. So was that the plan?? He asks for the release. we don't pay him out.

There are also rumors that Cleary and Lewis don't get along. As disappointing as it is to lose Lewis you can't have the coach and a senior player having an unworkable relationship. That's not the type of culture we need either.

Lewis wanted more say than a captain should have, just like Petero wanted. Petero seen the change coming and used the family excuse to get out on compassionate grounds. What I was told a couple of weeks ago regarding the real reasons for the loss of the captaincy etc, leave me less disappointed that he is going, still disappointed as he was one of my favourites. But if the info given to me is correct, Panthers will be better off. Regardless of what they say in the media, the power brokers at Penrith wanted Lewis gone.

The biggest issue for me here is that Lewis was a club legend. If I had to name 3 players I really loved playing at our club Lewis would be one and Gordon would be another (in years past Coote might have been the third). These guys seem like top blokes, play fair footy, and are capable of putting in crowd pleasing performances. They are (or were) the current heroes of the club. I don't know who will pick that up now, Grant has a lot of potential but it's still only early days for him. I think this is going to be a big issue with fans. With our current performance on the field we probably aren't going to see any new identities rise to their status for at least a while, and it's identities like these that get bums in seats. People like cheering for individuals as well as their team, and if the names they are used to loving have all moved on in such a short time it's going to leave a bit of a hole.

That's a problem for fans.

Still, it's done now. Trying to be optimistic. Maybe it won't be that bad.

I really feel for you guys...

I can't imagine what you're all going through with this.

Luke Lewis is so 100% Penrith that he bleeds black.

I doubt the decision was entirely his and I think that something ain't right somewhere.

I hope that Gould knows what he's doing.

Ive been overseas so im not sure what the sitution is but if Luke wants out then f**k it let him go play under Bennet or Bellamy and see how much of a say he gets in running the team. The coach is in charge if the players dont like it then f**k off.

hahaha

TBH that press conference he did at Cronulla mid-season is what turned it for me. Especially mentioning "We" all the time.

Then someone close to him on a particular FB page just slamming people.

Just the whole saga turned me off Lewis. Glad he isn't here any more.

at first I was think WTF is happening to this club.

never been so happy to be wrong in my life, loving the fact we are top 4 and have good youngsters coming through & most importantly, people want to stay or want to come to Penrith :)

TBH in my massive diatribe in this thread I was right about one thing - all those jumping off the bandwagon at the time would be jumping back on buying new jerseys in 2 years time. haha

I lost so much respect for him when he did that press conference. I think it's fair to say Gus and Ivan did the right thing letting Luke (and Mick Gordon) go as their best football was well and truly behind them.
