Armageddon Results

Smackdown's Armageddon kicks off in fine style, with the popular Mexicools' pairing of Super Crazy and Psicosis riding out to the ring on their Juan Deere lawn mowers. They're soon joined by the champions, MNM, who are accompanied by Melina.

MATCH ONE - MNM (c) vs. The Mexicools for the WWE Tag Titles
This is a solid, too and fro match highlighting the depth of talent in Smackdown's tag division. The Mexicools are the clear fan favourites and play underdogs to the champions' underhanded tactics and the constant interference of Melina. It all seems set for the upset as Psicosis ascends to the top turnbuckle and signals for a leg drop, but once again Melina gets involved - tripping the Mexican luchadore up and allowing Mercury to nail him with a fisherman's suplex for the 1-2-3.

After the clash, MNM and Melina celebrate as if they had won an epic bout, whilst The Mexicools look frustrated at Melina's interference and the ref's failure to notice it.

Next out is the Nation of Domination - Faarooq, Rikishi, and Samoa Joe. A video plays highlighting Teddy Long's demand that the trio be at Armageddon, but Faarooq gets on the mike immediately and condemns Long as a coward and a traitor. He says that the Smackdown General Manager has sold out his people and his heritage in order to pander to the slack-jawed, bigotted white americans. This brings out Hardcore Holly, who basically accuses the three of being cry-babies and prima donnas. This leads to an impromptu match being added to the card, pitting Samoa Joe against Hardcore Holly.

MATCH TWO - Hardcore Holly vs. Samoa Joe
This is a fairly decent match, full of stiff shots from the two talented workers. Holly is the fan favourite and controls things early, but Samoa Joe's power attack and submission holds keep him well and truly in the game. The fans look like getting the result they want when Holly gets Joe up for the Alabama Slam, but Faarooq grabs Joe's arms and prevents Holly from hitting the potentially match winning maneuvre. The referee ejects Faarooq from ringside but while he does so, Rikishi enters the ring and lays Holly out with the Rikishi Driver. Joe locks in the Triangle Choke and Holly is forced to tap out as the referee turns his attention back to the match.

The Nation of Domination aren't done, and Faarooq returns to the ring to lay out both Holly and the referee with the Dominator. Joe adds insult to injury by hitting the Muscle Buster on an already bloody Holly.

We cut to the backstage area where The Rock is preparing for his match. He cuts a standard Rocky promo, basically saying nonsensical stuff about Ken Kennedy and still drawing a huge pop.

MATCH THREE - The Rock vs. Ken Kennedy
Remarkably this clash is one of the finest you'll ever see. The two have a tremendous in ring chemistry, partially due to their similar styles and partially due to the fact that both men have a great ability to express themselves in the ring. Things start off with Rocky in firm control, much to the crowd's delight, but Kennedy is able to battle back after an eye rake and a Samoan drop. The cover gets two before The Rock makes a trademark last second kick-out.

Kennedy continues to control things by continually cheating, but The Rock simply refuses to die. The crowd rally behind him as he battles back and lays Kennedy out with the spinebuster, setting up for the legendary People's Elbow. The crowd go nuts as he throws his arm-band into the crowd, but the move doesn't get hit - John Bradshaw Layfield leaping the barrier and tripping The Rock up. The referee calls for the DQ, but JBL isn't phased - as he and The Rock slug it out in the ring. Rocky manages to put JBL down with the Rock Bottom, but Kennedy is on hand to nail him with the uranage to the crowd's disapproval. Ken Kennedy helps JBL to his feet and the two stands tall on a night that definitely hasn't been good for babyfaces.

Next up is a video hyping the impressive form of Bobby Lashley, finishing with DiBiase's challenge for 'control' of Paul Birchall.

MATCH FOUR - Lashley vs. Paul Birchall
The fans aren't exactly 'into' this one, with two rising stars being thrown against one another for no real reason. It's a decent enough match, though, with both men showcasing their considerable technical abilities as well as brawling. Essentially, though, it's the Lashley show - and he finishes things off with a gigantic running powerbomb. DiBiase celebrates the acquisition of a new 'talent', whilst William Regal looks furious at Birchall's failure.

Armageddon Results (Cont.)

Things pick up next, with Juventud coming out to the ring with the Cruiserweight Title on his shoulder. Next out his opponents are introduced one by one, and the final makeup of this match is: Juventud, Paul London, Kid Kash, Gregory Helms, Funaki, and Brian Kendrick.
MATCH FIVE - Cruiserweight Battle Royal
This starts off as something of a cluster-f**k, and Funaki is the first eliminated after a big dropkick from Kid Kash. Gregory Helms makes the next elimination, sending Brian Kendrick over the top rope after nailing him with the insanely dangerous Vertabreaker. It's down to four very skilled individuals, and the next to bite the proverbial dust is Kid Kash - sent to the outside with a hurricanrana after he'd attempted to powerbomb Juventud over the top rope. London and Helms get on the same page and attempt to eliminate Juvi, but the champion used the low bridge to send London to the outside.

It's down to Helms and Juventud, and a more 'traditional' cruiserweight match ensues. Juvi has the fans' support and it shines through, the 'Juice' able to pick up a win after hitting the Juvi Driver following his own escape from the Nightmare on Helms Street.

As Juventud celebrates we cut to the backstage area where JBL is with Jillian Hall. Hall is tending to the 'wounds' her client suffered in attacking The Rock and urges him not to work the match while he isn't fit. JBL gets indignant and talks about how easy it will be for him to account for Rey Mysterio.

MATCH SIX - JBL vs. Rey Mysterio
A hype video showing JBL's attack on Rey Mysterio last week during his clash against Ken Kennedy is shown as explanation for this clash. The fans are into it despite the almost complete lack of backstory and are not disappointed by this fairly competitive clash. Rey's speed is a big factor early on, but once the wrestling 'God' gets his hands on him the tide turns. Much to the crowd's delight, however, Rey is able to pick up the win following the 619 and a West Coast Pop.

Booker T and Sharmell are out next. The unpopular 'beauty queen' talks up her man prior to his feud ending clash with Chris Benoit.

MATCH SEVEN - Chris Benoit vs. Booker T (c) in a Steel Cage Match for the US Title
To this point the clash is the finest of the evening, both experienced veterans putting on the kind of cage match Triple H has made famous with plenty of brutal shots mixed in with the display of chain wrestling. The two tell a great story in the ring, their former friendship continualyl brought up as they exchange control in a solid, sixteen minute match that feels much longer. Memorable spots include Benoit German suplexing Booker T from the top turnbuckle, Booker T splitting the Crippler open with multiple chairshots, and a 'Holy sh*t' chant worthy suicide headbutt from the top of the cage by Benoit. The two men are staggering to their feet following this devestating maneuvre when Sharmell again makes her presence felt - distracting the referee whilst Benoit covers Booker T. There's nobody to make the count, and Benoit is furious. He goes to the cage to yell at Sharmell, and this allows Booker T to roll him up schoolboy style for an ill-gained win and title defence.

Next up is the main event, and both Matt Hardy and Randy Orton cut pre match promos on their opponent to be.

MATCH EIGHT - Randy Orton (c) vs. Matt Hardy for the World Heavyweight Title
This is a fairly standard brawling clash from two workers who aren't matched up as they should be. Hardy dominates the early going with tenacity and intensity but Orton's underhanded tactics and the presence of Cowboy Bob Orton means that the champion never looks out of the metaphorical 'box seat'. Hardy goes close on two occasions, once with a Twist of Fate and once after near decapitating Orton with a chairshot whilst the referee was out. The end, however, came in typical Orton fashion - Bob Orton clubbing Hardy across the back with the World Title and drawing his ire. As Hardy dragged Bob Orton into the ring and hit the Twist of Fate, Orton pounced to hit the RKO and get a crowd infuriating 1-2-3.

After the clash Orton's celebrations are cut short by the arrival of Hulk Hogan, with the ever popular Hulkster sending him packing and pointing to the belt - the two might just lock horns again soon!

Haha, will add Samoa Joe to your roster now. And yeah, I do write the matches. They're not as detailed as I'd do for my other diary (the infamous Berner Street Wrestling) but I try to get the general point across. Raw and Smackdown previews to follow!

Monday Night Raw kicks off with the arrival of Rob Conway, and the fans are underwhelmed as the 'Conman' struts out to the set for tonight's edition of the Legend's Challenge. He announces tonight's guest as Jimmy Snuka, and the legend comes out to a fine reception. Video is played of Snuka and Eugene beating Conway and Tomko at last year's Taboo Tuesday before Conway speaks. He basically belittles Snuka's entire career and then announces that today he ends his legacy with a match.

MATCH ONE - Rob Conway vs. Jimmy Snuka
This is actually a remarkably good match, with Conway selling Snuka's offence well. The fans get what they want when Snuka flattens Conway and goes to the top for his finisher, but Conway has the last laugh - hitting a superplex and covering for the 1-2-3. The fans aren't happy as Conway beats down Snuka following the match.

We cut backstage to where Kurt Angle is with Maria. She asks him (in her own stupid way) how he feels going in as the underdog in tonight's match against Edge. He says that he loves to be the underdog. He won his 1996 Olympic Gold Medal as the underdog. He then says if anyone is the underdog, it's Edge - a man who has built his entire career around being carried by others. Christian carried him. The Hardy Boys carried him and now Matt Hardy and Lita are carrying him.

COMMERCIAL

We return from the break as Goldust makes his way out to the ring in his bizarre, stop motion style. Next out is Shelton Benjamin, who gets a modest pop for his second IC Title defence.

MATCH TWO - Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. Goldust for the IC Title
The fans are mostly behind Shelton for this one, although Goldust gets a modest response for his off the wall antics. It's a good, open match between two fine workers capable of working better matches. Goldust has his share of control but for the most part it's all Shelton, and the champion manages to score the win with the T-Bone Suplex.

Shelton celebrates in the ring after the match and, remarkably, a Shelton chant starts.

We cut to the backstage area where Triple H is relaxing in his dressing room. The door opens and Ric Flair enters. The two stand up and ready themselves for a fight, but Eric Bischoff is quick to cut in between the two. He begs the two not to go at it here. It's bad for them and it's bad for business. If they want one another tonight it will have to be in a tag match. Triple H says that's fine, and announces his partner as Chris Masters. Flair says he'll be out in the ring.

MATCH THREE - Triple H & Chris Masters vs. Ric Flair & ??
The heel team are first out, and the crowd go nuts as Flair arrives at the top of the ramp. He says that as the dirtiest player in the game he had to call on somebody who was no stranger to lying, cheating, and stealing - somebody who had been close to one of the lyingest, cheatingest champion of all time. CHAVO GUERRERO

The fans go nuts for the nephew of Eddie Guerrero, who starts things off in fine style against Masters. Chavo is the stronger of the two early on, and Masters is forced to tag out to Triple H. Chavo makes a fine showing of it against the game, but eventually the former champion's colours show and he begins to control things. An interchange of tags between HHH and Masters sees Chavo in real trouble. Eventually the hot tag is made to Ric Flair, who dominates Masters with back drops and chops. Masters scrambles to his corner for the tag, but HHH doesn't want any part of it. Masters and Triple H argue, and Flair goes across to grab them. Triple H swings around and nails Flair with a shot from what appeared to be brass knuckles, but the ref never saw it! Chavo rushes across but gets locked in the Masterlock whilst HHH nails the Nature Boy with a Pedigree. 1-2-3! Triple H and Chris Masters steal a win!

With Chavo out, Masters turns his attention to Flair, locking him in the Masterlock whilst Triple H goes for his trademark sledgehammer and breaks him open. Flair is a bloody mess!

COMMERCIAL

We return from the break to a solid pop as Big Show and Kane are seen backstage. Kane and Show apologise to one another for last week's misunderstanding and say they're switched on tonight.

MATCH FOUR - Kane & Big Show vs. TNT
After the debacle of last week, this match is all about the big men - with Show and Kane dominating both men from start to finish. Without the titles on the line, TNT are made to look like absolute clowns - Cade being buried with the double chokeslam for the 1-2-3 after just four minutes.

COMMERCIAL

Back from the break and it's time for Carlito's Cabana. The grandmaster of cool has CM Punk as his guest tonight. He interviews the new WWE superstar about the straight edge lifestyle and about his dislike of Val Venis. This, of course, brings out the Big Valbowski for the match. Carlito makes a quick exit.

MATCH FIVE - CM Punk vs. Val Venis
This is a good, open match between two men who look like getting pushes up the card in the not too distant future. Venis is the fan favourite but there's a lot of 'straight edge' signs out in the crowd as well. Venis wows the crowd when he signals for the Money Shot, but Punk gets knees up and is then able to lay Venis out with Welcome to Chicago. He covers with a handful of tights, and picks up a dirty win.

Punk doesn't look like he's done, though, dragging Venis towards the corner for what the commentators say will undoubtedly be the Pepsi Plunge. This brings out Viscera, and the 500 Pound Love Machine makes the save.

We then cut backstage to where John Cena has arrived. He gets his standard pop from the female fans as he struts through the halls. He's intercepted by Tajiri, however, who says nonsensical Japanese. A translator is on hand, and she says that Tajiri has requested a title shot. Cena looks a little confused, but agrees to take on the Japanese Buzzsaw.

COMMERCIAL

MATCH SIX - John Cena (c) vs. Tajiri for the WWE Title
This match is, thankfully for the prestige of the title belt, quite short. Tajiri has some offence and (much to the horror of WWE bookers, I'd imagine) even gets a chant or two before Cena picks up the win with the F-U.

As Cena poses with the title, HBK hits the ring. SWEET CHIN MUSIC! The Heartbreak Kid lays out the champion!

We cut backstage to where Edge and Lita are watching all of the action. Lita is laughing at HBK's attack on Cena, but Edge seems more focussed. He talks to her about how a win tonight will seal his place as the #1 contender. He says it will be the greatest achievement of his career. Better than tag team championships. Better than past title shots. Better than ending Matt Hardy's career. He's going to become #1 contender and beat John Cena at New Year's Revolution.

COMMERCIAL

The break ends and a hype video is played showing the complicated #1 contender's scene. It highlights the past matches (HBK vs. Angle & Edge vs. HBK) as well as showing Cena's own involvement in the recent events.

We then cut to Bischoff's office, where Angle and Edge wait for his announcement of their special guest referee. He says it's a surprise and they'll find out in the ring.

MATCH SEVEN - Kurt Angle vs. Edge
Kurt Angle is first out and, due to this being heel vs. heel, gets a solid reaction from the fans even with the 'You Suck' chants during his entrance theme. Edge's own arrival draws significant heat, as does Lita's presence at his side. The special guest referee is out next...

I think I'm cute
I know I'm sexy...

The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels comes out to a huge ovation, the fans having seemingly forgotten his unprovoked attack on the WWE Champion earlier in the night.

The match gets underway with HBK calling things down the middle and it's a damn fine bout. Edge and Angle have a fine chemistry in the ring and the match is full of memorable spots. No one worker dominates, and HBK does a sterling job of ensuring that Lita doesn't come near the ring. She does get involved at one point, grabbing Edge's hands when Angle had locked in the ankle lock, and this saw HBK eject her from ringside.

The bout continues until both men go down as a result of a double clothesline. We're thirteen minutes in and both men are motionless. HBK begins to count but then realises that an Edge win means he has no chance of being #1 contender. As Edge stumbles to his feet HBK calls on Sweet Chin Music for the second time of the night - near decapitating him! Angle staggers to his feet unaware of this, and nails Edge with the Angle Slam. Cover. 1-2-3! Angle wins and HBK raises his arm. Angle isn't as dumb as HBK thinks, however, and takes down the referee with an Angle Slam of his own.

The commentary team scream about the lack of a decision with regards to the #1 contender. All three men have won a match and it's a dead heat. The night ends with Angle standing tall over Edge and HBK.

Scoring
Rob Conway: Win (+5) = 5
Shelton Benjamin: Win (+5) and Title Defence (+3) = 8
Triple H: Win (+5) = 5
Chris Masters: Win (+5) = 5
Kane: Win (+5) = 5
Big Show: Win (+5) = 5

WWE Makes Releases
As is common for this time of year, the WWE have made several releases. The major sackings were WWE legend Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine, Chad and James Dick, Big Vito, and Rosey - who was squashed in his final matches in the WWE prior to being released.

Also leaving the company is long term writer and former ECW head booker, Paul Heyman, who has accepted a contract offer from TNA. Many insiders consider this signing to be the first in the 'new' wrestling war - with the WWE having recently poached both Samoa Joe and Monty Brown from the upstart promotion.

Results

Smackdown began the new year with Theodore Long strutting out to the ring to the adoration of the fans in Montreal, Canada. The Smackdown General Manager announced the eight man tournament to decide a #1 contender to Booker T's United States championship, with Booker T having defeated Chris Benoit (however dubiously) at Armageddon. The participants in this tourmament are to be Samoa Joe, Psicosis, Hardcore Holly, Rikishi, Bobby Lashley, Mark Briscoe, William Regal, and Nunzio. Tonight we will see matches between Samoa Joe and Psicosis and Mark Briscoe and Hardcore Holly.

We cut backstage to where Joey Mercury, Jonny Nitro, and Melina are popping over a bottle of champagne in celebrating of their victory over The Mexicools at Armageddon. They're up against The Dicks tonight, but don't seem at all phased.

MATCH ONE - MNM vs. The Dicks
This one isn't for the title, but that really doesn't matter, with the champions dismantling the team that has since been released by the company. It's essentially a parting squash for the team, who offer little resistance against the in form champions.

COMMERCIAL

We return to the backstage area where MNM and Melina are continuing their celebrations as if their match had never happened. As they cheer, however, the door to the room opens and Paul London and Brian Kendrick enter. They demand a match at Royal Rumble but before an answer is given, LOD 2005 enter to a solid pop and make the same challenge. MNM say that they'll consider both requests.

MATCH TWO - Samoa Joe vs. Psicosis
This may seem like a styles clash but it actually provides quite an interesting match for fans. Whilst Joe is a proficient brawler and technician, he has trouble handling Psicosis' speed and finds himself on the very edge of defeat on two occasions, the second of which invovles Psicosis nailing his top rope leg drop for a two and a half count. In the end, however, no amount of speed or courage is match for Joe's strength - the Nation of Domination member scoring the win after a Muscle Buster.

We cut backstage to where Matt Hardy is with Todd Grisham, who asks him about his feelings following a loss to Randy Orton at Armageddon. Matt Hardy reminds Todd and the fans that he will not die and that Randy Orton couldn't put him down without help from 'daddy dearest'. He's demanding one last shot at Royal Rumble but JBL interrupts, laughing and generally mocking him. Matt Hardy takes offence and demands a match!

COMMERCIAL

MATCH THREE - Matt Hardy vs. JBL
This isn't so much a match as it is a segment. The two battle for a few minutes before Ken Kennedy interrupts, blasting Hardy with a chair to end the match by DQ. As he and JBL celebrate their 'victory' however, IF YA SMELL hits and The Rock clears the ring! He's obviously got unfinished business with JBL and Ken Kennedy!

Theodore Long is out quickly to demand order and decides the best way to satisfy the grudge is to organise a match. The bell rings and it looks like we've got a tag team clash!

MATCH FOUR - JBL & Kennedy vs. The Rock & Matt Hardy
With Matt Hardy groggy from the chairshot, The Rock hands the bulk of the early work, and manages to take Kennedy to school. The two have tremendous chemistry, however, and it's not long before Kennedy battles back and is able to tag in JBL. This brings about a slowing of match pace, with JBL's advent signalling a change to holds, constant tags, and the general wearing down of Rocky. The hot tag is eventually made to Matt Hardy, but after an initial flurry he too is worn down and is forced to tag The Rock.

The Rocky does his thing, battling back with right hands and then laying out Ken Kennedy with the spine buster much like he did at Armageddon. Once again the fans are robbed of the People's Elbow, with Jillian Hall getting up on the apron and allowing JBL to nail the Clothesline from Hell. Kennedy covers and the heel team steal a win in a truly memorable tag match! Matt Hardy and The Rock look absolutely livid as JBL, Kennedy, and Hall high-tail it.

COMMERCIAL

Back from the break and it's Kid Kash in the ring, ready to have his shot at Juventud's cruiserweight title.

MATCH FIVE - Juventud (c) vs. Kid Kash for the Cruiserweight Title
Following on from the last match, this is another classic, albeit in a different style. The two experienced cruiserweights put on a veritable wrestling clinic - with Juvi picking up a clean win following the Juvi Driver.

As he celebrates, however, Gregory Helms hits the ring with a chair. Juventud is able to wrest it from him, but can't escape the Vertabreaker. Helms stands tall and demands a microphone, he lays down a challenge to Juventud at Royal Rumble in a ladder match!

We again cut to the garage, this time in time to see Hulk Hogan step out of his limousine. The fans go nuts as he heads into the arena.

COMMERCIAL

Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki, one of the WWE's oddly mixed tag teams, hit the ring after the break. They're scheduled to take on the teaming of Faarooq and Rikishi.

MATCH SIX - The Nation (Faarooq and Rikishi) vs. Scotty 2 Hotty & Funaki
This is a squash of gigantic proportions, with neither of the babyfaces getting off much offence. Scotty 2 Hotty looks to win his former Too Cool ally over early in the match by hitting his old Too Cool music, but Rikishi lays him out with a super kick. The win comes after a short match - Rikishi burying Funaki with the Rikishi Driver for the 1-2-3.

As The Nation of Domination celebrate a successful night we cut back to where Mick Foley is interviewing Chris Benoit. It's another frank, largely out of character interview about Benoit's life and how things are going for him. He does, however, mention that he has regained his passion for the work and wants to win the World Title one last time.

COMMERCIAL

Chris Benoit is in action next, up against Simon Dean. Dean is out first, of course, and belittles the Canadian crowd. Benoit's arrival, in his home country, draws the biggest pop of the evening.

MATCH SEVEN - Chris Benoit vs. Simon Dean
Squash though it was, this match had something special, with the two veterans providing some good chain wrestling before Dean was wrapped up with the triple Germans and a crossface.

We're again backstage where network representative Don Callis is with his assistant, Mark Briscoe, who is to make his in ring debut tonight against Hardcore Holly for a chance at the US Title. Callis basically asks Briscoe to do the network proud.

MATCH EIGHT - Mark Briscoe vs. Hardcore Holly
One of many squashes of the evening, with Briscoe barely able to get off any of his fabled high flying offence. He eventually gets caught coming off the top rope to attempt a flying axe handle, Holly picking up the win after catching him and hitting the Alabama Slam.

COMMERCIAL

We return from the break to find Hulk Hogan on his way to the ring. He goes through his standard catch-phrases before calling out Orton. He doesn't get Randy, however, with Bob Orton instead coming out to accept the challenge.

MATCH NINE - Bob Orton vs. Hulk Hogan
Some might have felt like they'd fallen into some kind of time warp, with these two throwbacks to a bygone era. Orton gets off some heel offence early, but Hogan is never out of control - and picks up a fairly easy win following the big boot and leg drop.

As Hogan poses off, however, Orton hits the ring and nails the RKO. The show ends once more with Orton standing tall. Can he be stopped?

Scoring[/u]
Joey Mercury: Win (+5) = 5

It's a week out from New Year's Revoluton and who knows what kind of chaos will go down on Raw?

Val Venis & Viscera take on CM Punk and his mystery partner! Who can CM Punk rally to his cause?

Ric Flair takes on Rob Conway in a true 'legend's challenge'

Carlito, Chavo Guerrero, Chris Masters, and Goldust battle it out for the right to face Shelton Benjamin at New Year's Revolution for the Intercontinental Title

Trish Stratus takes on Victoria and Mickie James in defence of her women's title

Shelton Benjamin defends his Intercontinental title against TNT's Lance Cade. Will Cade be focussed knowing that Kane & Big Show want their titles back?

Plus Eric Bischoff throws together a huge main event sure to cause problems, pitting Shawn Michaels and Edge against John Cena and Kurt Angle. Can any of these men keep it together in a tag match?

Royal Rumble Poster Leaked!

The Royal Rumble poster has been leaked, with Raw's main event featuring John Cena and Shawn Michaels (indicating that one of the two is expected to win the New Year's Revolution main event this weekend). Smackdown's main event seems to indicate a triple threat match between Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, and Hulk Hogan - whilst the always popular Royal Rumble is expected to be as exciting as ever this year. However, two surprises faces appear on the poster - those being yet to return star Rob Van Dam and TNA superstar AJ Styles

There are rumours that this year's Royal Rumble will be expanded to include forty wrestlers, but so far these have not been confirmed or denied by the WWE.

The poster is below:

Out of curiosity, I'm planning to resurrect King of the Ring as a joint PPV. Which brand exclusive pay-per-view should I replace to make way for it?
