Armageddon Results
Smackdown's Armageddon kicks off in fine style, with the popular Mexicools' pairing of Super Crazy and Psicosis riding out to the ring on their Juan Deere lawn mowers. They're soon joined by the champions, MNM, who are accompanied by Melina.
MATCH ONE - MNM (c) vs. The Mexicools for the WWE Tag Titles
This is a solid, too and fro match highlighting the depth of talent in Smackdown's tag division. The Mexicools are the clear fan favourites and play underdogs to the champions' underhanded tactics and the constant interference of Melina. It all seems set for the upset as Psicosis ascends to the top turnbuckle and signals for a leg drop, but once again Melina gets involved - tripping the Mexican luchadore up and allowing Mercury to nail him with a fisherman's suplex for the 1-2-3.
After the clash, MNM and Melina celebrate as if they had won an epic bout, whilst The Mexicools look frustrated at Melina's interference and the ref's failure to notice it.
Next out is the Nation of Domination - Faarooq, Rikishi, and Samoa Joe. A video plays highlighting Teddy Long's demand that the trio be at Armageddon, but Faarooq gets on the mike immediately and condemns Long as a coward and a traitor. He says that the Smackdown General Manager has sold out his people and his heritage in order to pander to the slack-jawed, bigotted white americans. This brings out Hardcore Holly, who basically accuses the three of being cry-babies and prima donnas. This leads to an impromptu match being added to the card, pitting Samoa Joe against Hardcore Holly.
MATCH TWO - Hardcore Holly vs. Samoa Joe
This is a fairly decent match, full of stiff shots from the two talented workers. Holly is the fan favourite and controls things early, but Samoa Joe's power attack and submission holds keep him well and truly in the game. The fans look like getting the result they want when Holly gets Joe up for the Alabama Slam, but Faarooq grabs Joe's arms and prevents Holly from hitting the potentially match winning maneuvre. The referee ejects Faarooq from ringside but while he does so, Rikishi enters the ring and lays Holly out with the Rikishi Driver. Joe locks in the Triangle Choke and Holly is forced to tap out as the referee turns his attention back to the match.
The Nation of Domination aren't done, and Faarooq returns to the ring to lay out both Holly and the referee with the Dominator. Joe adds insult to injury by hitting the Muscle Buster on an already bloody Holly.
We cut to the backstage area where The Rock is preparing for his match. He cuts a standard Rocky promo, basically saying nonsensical stuff about Ken Kennedy and still drawing a huge pop.
MATCH THREE - The Rock vs. Ken Kennedy
Remarkably this clash is one of the finest you'll ever see. The two have a tremendous in ring chemistry, partially due to their similar styles and partially due to the fact that both men have a great ability to express themselves in the ring. Things start off with Rocky in firm control, much to the crowd's delight, but Kennedy is able to battle back after an eye rake and a Samoan drop. The cover gets two before The Rock makes a trademark last second kick-out.
Kennedy continues to control things by continually cheating, but The Rock simply refuses to die. The crowd rally behind him as he battles back and lays Kennedy out with the spinebuster, setting up for the legendary People's Elbow. The crowd go nuts as he throws his arm-band into the crowd, but the move doesn't get hit - John Bradshaw Layfield leaping the barrier and tripping The Rock up. The referee calls for the DQ, but JBL isn't phased - as he and The Rock slug it out in the ring. Rocky manages to put JBL down with the Rock Bottom, but Kennedy is on hand to nail him with the uranage to the crowd's disapproval. Ken Kennedy helps JBL to his feet and the two stands tall on a night that definitely hasn't been good for babyfaces.
Next up is a video hyping the impressive form of Bobby Lashley, finishing with DiBiase's challenge for 'control' of Paul Birchall.
MATCH FOUR - Lashley vs. Paul Birchall
The fans aren't exactly 'into' this one, with two rising stars being thrown against one another for no real reason. It's a decent enough match, though, with both men showcasing their considerable technical abilities as well as brawling. Essentially, though, it's the Lashley show - and he finishes things off with a gigantic running powerbomb. DiBiase celebrates the acquisition of a new 'talent', whilst William Regal looks furious at Birchall's failure.
