Mad Dog wants to play on

Id love to see doogs go around once more time but as alexander said during the commentary..hes played 9 games this yr???..
Is it so different to when robbie o davis wanted another year...and could have gone around again
Players can say they want to go around BUT its has to be a club decision
Ps..i think o davis should have been given another year

I think MacDougall is a fair bit better than O'Davis was in his last year, and we need a centre now more than we needed a fullback back then.

What exactly are his motives? Is he doing it for the team or is he doing it to crack the try record?

Might be good for depth however if we sign Farrar then say goodbye...

I dont think its unreasonable for him to want to break the record. Infact I'd go further and say if I was on his team I'd be on the lookout to set him up for some. HOWEVER I would never through away a try scoring opportunity just to set him up. Yes fine line I know but if you have played any sport before you know what I'm talking about that fine line.

Haven't seen the game yet so won't comment on the Doogs gives killer eye to Aku incident just yet.

If there's one thing you can say about MacDougall it's that he's an awesome competitor. Saying anything to the contrary would be a slap in the face.

I think this competitiveness and desire to hold the tryscoring record may be an underlying motive behind going round for another year. But I have no doubt whatsoever that if he plays on he will give 100% in every game next year as he has done throughout his entire career.

People can doubt his injury complaints over the years, but when he gets on the park he's never been one to just cruise through games. He's just too much of a fighter to do that, you see it everytime he comes up against a big name.

Reading between the lines I would suggest that he sees the chance to get in to the clubs record books, plus he sees a way of getting another years salary out of the club without it having a great affect on the salary cap. I mean it's not exactly going to cost us "next to nothing" (Aqua's quote) - if it is another $150,000 to keep him and have him play 10 games that isn't "next to nothing", and that is a fair bit of money for someone that would hopefully be a backup in case of injury.

They could do the old under 8's trick where Uate runs the field, waits in the in-goal area and hands the ball to Doogs when he gets there.

Doogs will get the try scoring record but really how long does he expect to hold it with a guy like Aku in the club.

Offer him minimum plus (smallish) match payments - we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Very much doubt he is getting 150k now - that might be the max he can earn if he plays every game.

You may mock them now, but for some people those gift tries are moments of heaven!:D

Not me though, I'm awesome. No really contray to popular belief I'm acutally quite good at sport and even though never played League (I played Union) I was aight. I played in a touch competition once with my friends and we lost evry game. The guy that refed our games was really frustrated because he could see that we were physically fit but just didn't know how to play. Ref turned out to be the State (NSW) coach for touch. Some tall skinny guy, nice guy btw. He coached us for 2 or 3 weeks and we improved outta sight. Anyways main point here is that he said I was good and I should play more.:D

True story, like really.

Fair call there - Aku already has 31 tries in 40 games! Though Tahu's 82 in 97 is still a little better.

Yep, that sounds pretty spot on for his current situation given what I've heard...and (imo) imagine that if he goes around again, he would be on a similar deal.

I'm sure I have read that in a recent media article that he will earn that (including match payments) this year. Will try and track it down.

I'm pretty certain I read in the Newcastle Herald last week that he is earning less than 150K this year Alex.

How much less, it didn't specify.

That must have been the article, however you would suggest that if they have used that figure as the base to describe his pay then it is somewhere close to that figure. If he was on $90K per year they would say "less than $100K" for example...

Yeah I'd imagine so, but it shows they probably don't have too much idea of what he's actually on besides that it's not that much.

Ackowledged ... however it needs to be stated that Tahu was playing in a much better side.

Definately, out of those 82 tries I reackon 80 were assisted by Midley and 60 of those Joey probably passed to Midley. Good old days...

However, our team's pet play is pass to Aku and watch him go!:D
