I find a lot of this debatable

I think that sacking Madge would be a terrible move at this point in time, with the club right in the middle of a rebuilding phase.

But why are we in a rebuilding phase? AR is 27, the twins are 25, Sam is 28, AJ is 22 and were all an important part of our 2014 premiership side. Sutton and GI are the only guys over 30 that i would've considered key players. Yes we've lost Walker, Teo and Luke but over that period we have also added guys like Gray, Crichton and Cody who would all have slotted into that 2014 side. We should've been aiming to build a dynasty but instead players haven't progressed and we've had the rest of the comp pass us.

While many people may not like Madge's style or his personality he is a proven winner and while we haven't set the world alight these last couple of seasons we haven't been horrendous.

Is he really a proven winner? Inherited a team that was on the verge of playing finals. Yes he did take them to a premiership at the third attempt but since then it's been a big fall with no obvious attempt to change things up. He hasn't evolved with the game and as a result we've been left behind. A part of the reason that players have left us and kicked on is that they have gotten into a system that is relevant in todays brand of footy. We've had some grim results in the past two years and very, very few positive results inbetween.

More crucially, Maguire has proven that he is capable of bringing young players through and developing them to a first grade level.

Can't argue too much about this but we need to have players develop above a first grade level. We need a coach who can develop guys to a rep level. It's no coincidence that the top 4 in the NRL are flush with rep players.

End of the day, a good coach leaves a team in better condition than he got it and in Madges time we have only regressed.

Hopefully a full clean out of players that are eating our cap for playing like muppets!
Don't stop at the coach go the whole hog!
I'm not sure that's required.
A new coach and a new motivation is a good start.
I think we are on the right path with the youngsters coming through. We probably just need to add a couple more experienced 1st graders(leaders) around them (at the right price).

This is part of the problem with sacking the coach and bringing in someone without any NRL coaching experience - there is always the possibility that they could be worse. I think that sacking Madge would be a terrible move at this point in time, with the club right in the middle of a rebuilding phase. The one thing that you need when you are trying to rebuild is stability. Sacking the coach is going to uncertainty throughout the club from the team's playing style to the commitment of the young players that are just emerging. While many people may not like Madge's style or his personality he is a proven winner and while we haven't set the world alight these last couple of seasons we haven't been horrendous. More crucially, Maguire has proven that he is capable of bringing young players through and developing them to a first grade level. If we are going to bring in a new coach then this is an absolute must!

I agree with everything you say. Madge is a proven winning coach. Something that I don't know if people have thought about is how this is gonna affect resigning players either. Crichton has been tabled an offer but might be waiting to see whether Madge is staying or not. Getting rid of the coach is going to completely destabilise the club. My one hope from Seibold is that the players like him. If the players respect him then he can build on everything from there.

Is Toovey really even an upgrade from Madge? I mean he hasn't exactly set the world alight since things went down hill at Manly.

Not at all. Don't really rate Toovey. He had the roster at manly and definitely didn't set the world alight. I'd rather not go for a manly old boy as well...

Bad decision by Souths. Maguire's record as coach was miles ahead of any Souths coach of the last 25 years

Souths need to fix their recruitment as their No 1 priority. Richo is head of recruitment so he should be first out the door. Instead Richo is announcing that Maguire is gone. Richo has signed only one NRL quality player for Souths next year in Gagai so he has been doing nothing while the team struggles

One other issue with Maguire is that it is very notable that he likes to recruit players from his past clubs. While at Souths he has recruited lots of Storm players and Wigan players like Lima. Now that Souths is his former club he will spend all his time trying to recruit Souths players and most likely will target any good young players Souths have

We are definitely in the rebuilding stage. About 10 of our 17 starting team are consistent first grade players. The rest of them only show up in patches. We have a need to blood a lot of juniors because of our underperforming players already in the 17. We have too many injury prone players that demand a lot of money from the salary cap. I think we would be lucky to see a premiership in the next couple of years thus should be rebuilding the squad. Gray is leaving and Cody who is one of our best players is also upset with his pay. I think Madge was definitely trying to rebuild the squad to the best of his ability but was booted before he got his chance.

I think a new coach is part of that rebuild, hopefully a new, fresh brand of South Sydney.

I think the players had stopped listening to Madge, his ideas were stale with the players, it's unfortunate but i think the right decision has been made.........Hasler will be next to go.
Agreed mate.
