Manly caught over the cap - Brett Stewart essentially a free agent

Remember how the whole Storm scandal started? It was Schubert concerned with Cameron Smith's Fox Sports deal and snowballed from there. I wonder what else Schubert will find out if he digs a little deeper...?

Having to shed more players to keep BS they would have to hope for an injury free season.

This never happens so Manly will likely start heading south on the ladder around Origin time and never recover.

Mauro and Rose are plodders anyway, get rid of those two and they'll keep Stewart.

Have to agree there Patorick.

In 2011, Melbourne were not supposed to make the 8. They won the minor premiership.

In 2012, they weren't meant to feature at all. We all know how that turned out.

I reckon Manly will do alright next year regardless but we'll see who they offload.

You may have jumped the gun there buddy. Saying you will et injured players around Origin time is hardly an insult, implying you will lose a few to Origin duties is probably more a compliment about the quality of players in your team.

But then again, Manly are the victims of everything and anything anybody says about them can only be hate and butt-hurt, so maybe you are right.

Why is the NRL always picking on Stewart?
I hate him as much as the next Manly hater but why not withold another players contract?

I guess it wouldnt make news if they witheld t-rex or Rose up.

Because there have to be 25 players counted in the salary cap. Manly signed plenty of players but obviously most won't be in the top 25. I have no doubt they would have only signed those players if they were low value in which case they simply replace others in the top 25 (Oldfield, Whare, Lussick, T-Rex, Harrison etc).

So manly dont have any juniors to call up?
Matchball, Stewarts was the last contract. They are not picking on him, its just the way it panned out.

Because Lussick, Whate, Oldfield, Harrison were on huge money...

One thing for sure, if they shed Wolfman, Rose, Mauro their depth is horrible.

If any club drops 7 first graders and brings in no one their depth would be horrible

Well except maybe the Dogs who seem to have no problems signing loads of new players whilst releasing no one.

Far from it Patorick. You guys will be represented at Origin time and every team gets injuries. My post combined both of those to a team with questionable (dependant on what ensues from this revelation) depth a team will struggle to gain momentum against a team that isn't affected.

Bury your head in the sand if that helps though.

Do you think before you type?

They can't "withhold another player's contract" (whatever that means) because Brett Stewart's contract is the one the Sea Eagles are trying to register.

Not that there is any proof but many of us think things don't add up over at Belmore way.

Who claimed Melbourne wouldn't feature and how high were they?

Maybe what happened 2 years ago with Melbourne has made them a little more vigilant? I wouldn't surprise me if Hayne or Thurston were to come under similar scrutiny if they were to renew with Parramatta and Cowboys respectively...

After 5 straight losses all the "experts" said they were no chance. In 2011 the "experts" has us not even making the eight.

As Patorick said; Haters gonna hate.

good for you guys. this is the same group that people said wouldn't make the 8 and des wasn't able to work magic with a bunch of "rejects".

as someone else said earlier, until tony williams the highest paid player was frank pritchard at 400k.

dogs don't have a bunch of players on 400-600k+ like most clubs.

further more with the list off contract dogs got a bucket load of cash again to retain and spend.

It's not that simple, they can't just tear up a contract and say seeya without grounds. They could tear them up yes, but they would still have to pay them out and it would still count under the cap so solve nothing really. They would need to find clubs willing to take them, and good luck finding a club willing to take a "plodder" at full price. Manly would probably have to shed close to 600k worth of players to get that 300k. That's because they would be footing 50% of the bill roughly for the players they offload. Other clubs will be in the box seat and get great deals if Manly try to offload players.

Don't listen to them, DoggiesBro. Everybody on the internet still thinks the Storm are over the cap... not that anybody has any proof. f**k em, mate.
