Manly Salary Cap

Funny how yet again, it was a third party that tipped the NRL into what was going on.

If the police hadn't have been investigating Manly for other reasons and found out about these extra payments, the NRL would never have known. We really need a better system because it's clear that the NRL can't police the system they have without external help or a disgruntled employee tipping them into something being wrong.

Would be funny now if the tax department decided to weigh in and hit some of these players with an audit and bill them for unpaid taxes...

They say that the players are not to be held accountable. Greenburg must have got an earful from players union Cam Smith.
I can't see how the players would be accountable, their managers on the otherhand....
You also can't tell me this isn't happening at basically all clubs, the managers have a large say in how their clients are paid and who they sign with.

This is utter bullshit. The only true penalty is points deduction. Otherwise with wealthy backers, they really don't lose much.

And for the salary cap to be $600k less for this and next year, how does anyone know whether they'll do it again? Their backs will be against the wall,so they may as well rort the system again. What can they lose? Not comp points it seems.

I see your point, but hey, over a dozen players were offered $1.5 million. They all knew what was going on,and anyone with an ounce of common sense would have realised that there was salary cap cheating going on.

As they say, there no excuse for ignorance, except if you play in the NRL.

That's what so funny about so many being so high and mighty about the storms cheating like it could never happen at their club. Here is yet another club found being involved. Which fan base will be left with egg on its face next?

Truth is the NRL is totally incapable of uncovering or preventing cap cheating and if you think more clubs aren't involved you're a fool.

Then again with how 3rd party deals work now you barely even need to cheat.

The easy way to fix this is to get rid of TPA's and publish every players salary. But the NRL won't do it thanks to the power of the managers and the RLPA.

If that is the case, the managers and the RLPA have a lot to hide. Which means so do the players.

Greenburg and the NRL have a lot on their plate. This latest saga is ruining the game, and unless the NRL come up with a transparent model, people will always question the motives of other clubs.

As long as the players have declared everything they are paid, even if outside the cap, the ATO wouldn't give a f**k.

And the NRL don't have access to players tax records to do anything about it.
