X player comes out, The press will go crazy about it and the pressure would be nuts. There would no private life, sad really but I get the want to keep such stuff private

I think it is difficult to say that it is not the players; if a gay Manly player was thinking about bringing his partner to a club function he now has to be thinking ‘what are a quarter of my teammates going to think of me?’

But agree that it also includes the wider community.

The point is that 20 years ago you’d be bashed for coming out, now it’s like meh good for you.

Until coming out in sport is “normalised” there will still be this huge unnecessary uproar over a person speaking up.

There should be a coming out round where they all do it at the same time, will be news for a day then who the f**k cares.

Disclaimer - I don’t think that have to come out at all but they should feel like they can if they want to. Right now they don’t feel safe at all.

Assuming those players don't already know that is. Most players in the comp the wider public don't know their marital status whether they have kids etc, Those in the sides would and likely couldn't care less

There's no harm in discussion if you have an open mind. What are you disagreeing with?

In Australia, sexual identity/orientation is legally included and accepted thus validated within our society. Almost every person due to these recently modern circumstances, knows someone or has family members who are LGBT..... There's no twinkie bashing anymore, if you talk to normal young people it's accepted as a normal human trait. There is no more need for a pride round than a hetro round imho.

Anyway, once we’re finished painting ourselves into a wee tiny corner, I would be very interested to hear any thoughts on advances in societal equity NOT achieved through political activism.

In fact, we only need investigate the origins of this game we all support. The establishment of the professional rugby code, rugby league itself, was a result of determined (aggressive?) political activism by employee/players. Fact.
