Am not overly excited by O'Neill's appointment but I don't need to know why he was the best candidate or why he was chosen, the fact is he was chosen so we've gotta get over it and move on. No doubt he'll be praised and criticised over every decision he makes or doesn't make.

Also we've got to realise the position is fairly new and may not even be a position at every club so there aren't hundreds of experienced applicants. It seems that the best ones already have a job elsewhere. Possibly in a few years if clubs persist with the job there'll be more capable people for the job but most applicants were probably involved in other areas of a club.

Of all the candidates he was the best apparently so at least give him a chance to excel or fail. On paper he is not a world beater but within Parra's organisation he might be.
According to the club, best may also mean cheapest which suits our cheapskate administrator fine.

"According to the club" is not the way you offer an opinion. I know that you post jokes and sarcasm barbs mostly, but shit like that could get this site in trouble.
Ummmm captain serious with his Mod badge and bus nutthugger one.

I think O'Neill will work out just fine... We just need Sterlo to come out and say he has some big question marks over his appointment and no confidence in his ability to fulfil the role and everything will be apples... If O'Neill gets Sterlo's non-endorsement, it'll be just the tonic we need. FFS, O'Neill might even end up winning a Nobel prize!!

Don’t know how they came up with the O’Neil choice. He doesn’t exactly have experience running a club. I would’ve def gone after Phill Moss . Anyway Let’s give the bloke a chance before we hang him.
I reckon they:
1. advertised the role
2. contacted others who didnt apply that they were interested in
3. Shortlisted the applicants based on skills and experience
4. Did some interviews and tests
5. Refined shortlist
6. Did some reference checks
7. Offered to their preferred candidate

Unfortunately you cannot force someone like a Phil Moss to apply, so i reckon they followed a recruitment process and hired the best candidate for the job.

Whether that turns out to be the right choice or not is for the hindsighters to reflect on at some point in the future and I agree, let's at least let him start before he hang him out to dry.

Would O'Neils appointment make more sense if someone like Sterling was given an advisory role to assist in the Recruitment and Retention activity? The HoF is not the only person tasked with recruitment, there is a committee being formed however someone needs to lead the process and be accountable.

The suggestion is that he was a standout in all aspects. Guess we have to see what he brings but in saying that, as a so called premier sporting organnsiation it's not the level of appointment expected. Bit underwhelming really.

The Knights appoint Brian Canavan, Warriors appoint Brian Smith, we know Cowboys and Storm have reasonable GMs. Just doesn't look like the sort of top level appointment to steer us out of a bad season. Very glad to be proven completely wrong
We want to become a development club. Maybe we are trying to grow our own GM of football.

I don't care if he owns Woolworths. He has next to no experience as a football manager. He has as much experience as Steve Sharp. Let's hire him.
O'Neill was good enough to get hired for a job like this in the past. If he was sacked for exposing himself to a bus full of disableds at least it wasn't for being bad at his job. I'm sure he's learnt from it.

I don’t want Sterling anywhere near our recruitment, particularly halves

We are driving an agenda of cultural change yet we hire someone that left their last footballing role due to alleged misconduct and inappropriate behaviour.

Seriously are you people from another planet? I know Bernie definitely is.

He is not in line for appointment as a Judge to Supreme Court in the U S of A...just Football Manager ...--I reckon he will be a good appointment,,,,unlucky to get sprung as Wests.....

Hopefully the checkout chick delivers. If not, he'll be in the clearance bin.

He's already been written off unfortunately. Apparently he knows nothing about footy (although he played 250 NRL/ESL games and worked at the NRL for eight years). He's also a brain dead imbecile (although he he holds a recent MBA which is post grad to his degree).

BTW google tells me that his nickname is "Buckets".
