Has my support until he does something to lose it. Plenty of brilliant leaders have been looked down upon when appointed and grown in the position.

Knowledgable about football from both the sheds as a player, and in administration. Knowledgable about business/financial management etc from being a senior manager in Woolies head office. Knowledgable about the NRL and probably has good relationships with many in head office from 7 years on the match review committee.

Passed 5 interviews, vetting and shortlisting by an independent recruitment firm, and came out on top in psychological and cognitive testing. You don’t just fluke those things.

Is he the best option in the country - most likely not, but is he the right person for the club - time will tell that but he was clearly the best person based on those that applied.

Give the bloke a chance...
Wow, a smart and unbiased take on his appointment...:raised_hands_tone1::raised_hands_tone1::raised_hands_tone1:

go hug a nut
I saw again, piss off and support the Dragons or something.

Negative merkins like you aren’t what the club needs right now. You clearly hate the club, what the f**k are you even doing here?

Oh and yes I’m hugging a nut right now, it’s great, you should try it.

HoF seems like an unusual position. It's relatively new and isn't the same at all clubs. I believe some clubs don't even have a HoF. We're obviously not going for a Panthers style, where the hof runs the club, but where does our hof sit in the hierarchy and what are his responsibilities? Dunno. Glad I could clear all that up.
Anyway, not exactly inspired by the signing but definitely willing to give him a go.

I am f**king speechless. What experience does he have? He had a post-playing role for 6 months at the Tigers and was boned for alleged misconduct. Now we hire him.

Our club is f**ked.
But but but but the review.

This club is an absolute embarrassment, put a fork in us we’re done.

I don't care if he owns Woolworths. He has next to no experience as a football manager. He has as much experience as Steve Sharp. Let's hire him.
He wasn’t good enough for the Tigers who were an absolute rabble at the time but he was good enough for us.

I heard he was happy to work for food stamps, Max didn’t bother to interview anybody else.

The Clayton’s review was an absolute farce, hire a dummy yes man who will do whatever Bernie and BA want. Just like the Max Approved board.

Were you not complaining that the board lack NRL experience ?

Perhaps they felt that they needed a guy who had exposure in mangement, handling big budgets plus being able to relate to footy players ? I’m just putting it out there, but TBH it amuses me how merkins do their loll without any facts. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because the board are all high end suits and won’t take decisions like this lightly.

Anyway flame away everyone.
King Nuthugger to the rescue!!

I wasn’t expecting much with this so called amazing review but somehow they have even lowered the bar than I expected.

You wave those Pom Poms though Gronky you also told people critical of Sharp and his bums the same thing.

Did he get the job as he was the best within the budget?
Yep, he might do a fair job but honestly we should of chased the best available no matter what the cost. Instead we head down to the reject shop to pick up a Tigers cast off. Honestly the club and board needed to do better. While we have Max around the club doesn’t stand a chance, he’s more worried about saving a few bucks so it looks good for him no matter how badly it hurts the football club.

Sometimes a position just becomes untenable. It doesn't mean he won't be any good. While his experience does seem lacking, I don't think there's a lot of people with experience in this position. And I've always been of the opinion that an administrator will hinder our performance but I'm not sure it follows that we've cheaped out in this case. It could be that the position/appointment was designed to not threaten the CEO or coach. Although I admit this might be a result of having an administrator, and the CEO and coach having greater influence because of this.

Tbh, I agree with you about the lynch mob comment.
But, wouldn't you think that our management would have much more ambition at the moment?
Mark O'Neil may be perfectly qualified. And so might another dozen people with better credentials than he.
Yes, we need to trust the board and CEO who have made this decision.
But geez, this doesn't set the world on fire re ambition for the club becoming a powerhouse.

Well he isnt the Duke is he

I have a good feeling about this O'Neal guy.
Lets be honest it doesnt take a big name to do the job. Plus big names come with big ego's.
The jnr set up is looking good. We have made 3 quality signings.
We have the best stadium in the NRL.
It isn't that bleak.

He seems to have gone through a rigorous process to get the gig and came with quiet a few decent references, I think M O'N is worth a chance at least before we deathride him.

He was appointed by people who are a lot more qualified than us.

I used to get out on the left side. Today I got out on the right side and things just seem different.

While I agree the O’Neill appears to be a bit underwhelming and his departure from the tigers is concerning. However interestingly according to reports Weeks from the NRL and Go the tigers chair gave him references which potentially indicate the tigers incident may have not been that serious.

Regarding candidates, what real experienced candidates were there that were available? Maybe moss and Zappia? Moss seems not to be able to stay at a club for a decent period while Zappia don’t think have been involved in footy for a while plus had his issues. Also did they even apply for job? Also experienced candidates like Smith or Parr and co probably weren’t even interested or contracted to their clubs. What other options were their? What former coaches were suitable? And were they even interested?

Additionally O’Neill may not be highly experienced but Anthony Seibold was also a rookie this year. And plenty have suggested BA should be replaced with a rookie coach so why not a rookie HOF.

From reports the recruitment process was pretty thorough, which is a positive. So let’s see how it goes.

Well he got a glowing reference from Nick Weeks so at least if O’Neill does turn out to be a nuffy then we know it’s because the NRL want to forcibly stop us from being a #powerhouse
