On 2gb yesterday they had a segment on the World Cup. I’m sure Mark Levy said World Cup 2017 will be sponsoring the show.

Erin Molon was very excited about the upcoming World Cup. It was good to hear some positive promotion.

Erin Molan has had all year on Channel 9 to talk about the World Cup and like the rest of her colleagues she has chosen to ignore it.

Not once do I remember a reference to any player in the NRL finals being talked about as playing themselves into contention for the World Cup. It was as if the season ended on Oct 1.

Yes she was definitely toeing the company line and suddenly she’s excited for the World Cup when her radio station is involved..

I wish channel 9 had won the rights they would have so much more build up non stop advertising.

This is an opportunity for channel 7 to gain some rusted on channel 9 viewers like myself. If the coverage is good I'm more likely to get my news fix from channel 7 then channel 9 into the future . Will be intriguing to see how it all goes!

Haven't heard anything, The Hawks media manager is trying to get in touch with the US Marines who are on a six month deployment in Townsville though.

French Embassy is also on board and is giving away tickets as prizes for the France v Lebanon game.

Also #RLWC2017 now has it's own Twitter Icon... a nice touch....

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/league/...hs-trash-rlwc-statues-assault-security-guard/

Who says Melburnians don't know the value of rugby league?

Over the weekend a large group of youths set their sights on the city's major Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) showpiece: the League of Giants, 14 huge statues representing each of the competing nations.

Standing at around three metres tall and dressed in full kit, the illuminated figures have been set up at Queensberry Square, right in the centre of the popular Southbank precinct.

On Saturday night a security officer keeping watch over the site was confronted by around 15 drunken young men.

The group tore the shorts off all 14 statues and also the jersey from the USA figure, which was also trashed and punctured in numerous places.

In trying to prevent the attack the security guard was also allegedly assaulted and suffered minor injuries.

7th Tackle has been told that the rampage only ceased when police intervened.

CCTV footage is currently being reviewed.

The damage caused a major headache for RLWC organisers, who needed to replace the giant shorts and USA jersey in time for last night's photo opportunity with the Kangaroos and England squads.

They got the job done, but not without a large degree of stress.
