Ch 9 are talking up peats as the buy of the year. I reckon tapau would come close.
He seems like the pack leader when he's on the field.

Wests prop Martin Taupau was a lot less diplomatic when asked whether the prospect of meeting the "red hot" Sea Eagles was a daunting task.

"Wouldn't say red hot," said Taupau. "Most people say they're intimidating but there is nothing that worries us as a forward pack, especially with our bench.

"We're not going to take a backwards step, we're not scared of anyone especially with James Gavet and Ava [Seumanufagai] . . . we're going stand up. Big [Manly prop] Jason King gave it to the Burgess brothers; we stepped up to the Burgess brothers and we'll do the same to Manly."

That fat f**k from manly Zorba gave it to taupau on 2KY this morning over these comments

Gunna have to rememeber to send him an email next Sunday

"That fat f**k from manly Zorba "

having met the man i believe your description to be very fair...even generous.

I couldn't believe it when we signed Taupau...i thought it must be another guy with the same name...i only saw him play once or twice last year and wouldn't have thought the dogs would ever let him go...he's the buy of the year

That moment was huge for me.

1) there's no way in the past one of our forwards would get in the face of opposition props

2) in years gone by after a scuffle like that I would usually expect us to make about 20m in the next set with a few sheepish hit ups and get belted by a fired up pack. Taupau tucked it under the arm and made a bee line for king.

I fcking loved it.

Have to disagree. From where I'm sat Taupau showed he had intelligence as well as brawn and intentionally stepped at the line, avoiding and embarassing King who just about dived into the Tigers in-goal trying to put on the hit of the year to fire up the Manly team.

Don't know if any of you have seen this effort chasing down Dane Gagai in a junior test match

This is what I like about Tapau. Once he caught Gagai he gives him a push in the chest to show him who is boss...natural aggression. I just hope all the forwards feed off this without going too over the top. He is a great signing.

His controlled aggression sets him apart from most of the other forwards we've had over the years. Since the formation of the JV I can only think of a handful of forwards with mongrel - Phil McCracken, Luke O'D (while he was cough coughing), Troy Worzinak, Willie Manu, Daine Laurie and Pancake Paterson. Gareth Ellis and Simon Dwyer both hit really hard in defence but they weren't necessarily aggressive. In Ellis' case he didn't need to be.

This guy has been huge in every game so far. Best buy for the Tigers since Gareth Ellis. When he and Gavet come on they have an immediate impact and lift the whole team. Works really well when you put Sue in the mix.

There was was a time in the WT game when the bench players came on and the intensity dropped, every body could see it other then Sheens, well done to Potter for addressing this, now we have a benched that adds dominates opposition packs.

How good is Big Marty!

Strange phenomena those jungle-boy Polynesians, they can go either way.

Pettybourne was a dud, Thompson is iffy and Taupau has just clicked.

I'm not complaining though.
