He should have done that before getting into a Professional sport in the first place. That way all of his antics may not have happened.

That is also True. He is atm a blight to the game, Mental Illness or not.

He said Mason did not want news of the diagnosis made public but the club had convinced him it may be in his best interests.

So the Bulldogs convinced him to sign a form to release his medical info, but they couldn't convince the players that were fined to sign a form to release that info.

You guys questioning it are being f**king dumb. Hugh Hazard is a renowned doctor, there is no way he'd make it up

It is a serious disease. Love him or hate him, he needs help and should not be in the spotlight at the moment. He should leave rugby league for the time being

Cheers

It's a serious problem and he suffers from it.

Officials might have known about it, Mason just might not want to have it made public, because he could have thought lots of people would joke about his condition, like they did with MacDougalls.

The anti-discrimination act prohibits Mason being penalised for having the illness, so if the illness causes him to commit certain acts they cannot suspend or sack him for the acts. In 1994, someone at my school was expelled for masturbating in class - his 4th offence, he recieved 3 warnings. His parents took the school to court, and the school very quickly reversed their decision because it was due to a condition he had. The school knew they would have lost.

If he has ADHD he should be sitting on the sidelines until such times as he a dispensation to use to use the medication required to treat it.

My liitle brother has the same thing,he was such a pain growing up.
Now he's got his medication he is heaps better,if Mason has got this disorder and needs the pills,i say give them to him and watch him improve.I gave it to him (Mason)before and now i know what his problem is,i say give him a chance.

if you have never lived with it or been around it you really shouldn't say anything about it,cause it ruins lives.

Also if Mason is the person who done those doodle's, he's very good at it.The way some ppl on t.v and radio were going on i thought he was drawing some really sick stuff.

IF it is such a serious problem then he should take time off from the game to get it sorted. Obviously Mason, his coach and his doctor do not think it is that serious or else he wouldn't be playing.

BTW loved the rest of the panels reaction to MG's comments on the Sunday Footy Show

Disorder 'no excuse' for Mason
May 24, 2004

AN expert in attention deficit disorders said today Willie Mason's behaviour could not be defended by his disorder.

She said it would not interfere with a person's ability to distinguish between right and wrong.

Controversy-prone NSW rugby league forward Mason has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), which the Bulldogs club believe could explain his much-publicised off-field problems.

Mason, 24, was last week fined $6000 for unprofessional behaviour after a State of Origin team bonding session.

Clinical psychologist Lucy Blunt, who specialises in ADHD, said the disorder would not interfere with a person's ability to distinguish between the right and wrong sort of behaviour.

And she said alcohol would only exacerbate the symptoms – which included difficulties with judgment, poor impulse control and restlessness and irritability.

Poor concentration, risk taking and inappropriate behaviour were consistent with ADHD, she told the Nine network's Today program.

Dr Blunt said consuming alcohol would only exacerbate problems such as risk taking and impulse control.

"I think that most people in the community are aware that alcohol is a disinhibitor and so ... alcohol is only likely to exacerbate those symptoms," she said.

ADHD would not interfere with a person's ability to distinguish between the right and wrong sort of behaviour, she said.

"If your basic moral conduct is such that you treat people in a particular way, then (ADHD) doesn't explain these sorts of comments or this sort of behaviour," she said.

Someone with ADHD might express their impulsivity by "blurting out something that they didn't mean to say", she said.

"It's sort of that catch that most of us have between brain and mouth that they override."

THIS CAN ONLY SUGGEST HIS BEHAVIOUR IS NOT ADHD RELATED AND HIS HEAD SHOULD BE CALLED FOR BY THE NRL AND RUGBY LEAGUE COMMUNITIES AS A WHOLE
HE IS THE NEW JULIAN O'NEILL...........GET RID OF HIM BEFORE HE'S THE NRL'S PAT CASH.

Did that doctor just say ADHD doesn't affect behaviour? Wow... are you sure that doctor hasn't had their license revoked? ADHD is used in criminal cases to blame people for murders and yet this doctor says it can't be used for a footballs indiscretions... gg

I cant believe some of these dogs supporters are sticking up for him.. If he was aware of his disease and its effects and what alcohol can do to the disease, then he would not have got pissed.. If he had any brains at all he wouldnt touch grog until his condition is gone.

ARE U DUMB

SHE SAID IS DOES AFFECT BEHAVIOUR BUT DOESNT CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE TYPE OF BEHAVIOUR WILLIE IS SHOWING, THIS FOOTBALLERS INDISCRETIONS - NO

Someone with ADHD might express their impulsivity by "blurting out something that they didn't mean to say", she said.

THIS IS A BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENENCY BY ONE WITH ADHD

I can only suggest you read it again if u cannot comprehend

no he said that you cant use adhd as a way to justify certain behaviours. it does not stop people from distinguishing right from wrong. ADHD does not affect a persons sense of morality nor comple people to behave in certain ways. Mason may have adhd, which may explain his lack of attention and why his attitude is quention during training, but it doesnt make him *edit*, do runners from a taxi or swear in front of kids

For the record, the Bulldogs have stated on at least two occasions, that they are not using this to excuse Willie's behaviour. Anyone who suggests that they are are misrepresenting the club.
