We've been an absolute rabble at all levels for years, but the club is hardly to blame for decisions that the NRL makes.

Dave Smith wouldn't be keen on another Tinkler style circus I'm sure.
It appears they would rather have us on a circle of infinite mediocrity

RE the board, was there actually any way to put a name forward for this? Or was it just more jobs for the boys/girls?

Not to blow my own horn but I would have liked to be considered... I would think I'm plenty qualified and I'm actually a passionate supporter, which it seems is not a prerequisite.

Not that it matters, I'm sure they only want nodding suits to steer us to a respectable 10th without upsetting the status quo.

If Quayle is having a say in who is on the board, then I have enough faith we'll end up with a quality one.

Is a shame they're not interested in private ownership. Sure, Tinkler bombed but the only way to survive for the foreseeable future is to be backed by someone like Koukash. I'm sure the NRL would be capable of installing measures in case to avoid what we endured throughout last season.

Interesting that Midley and Quayle are giving us conflicting information on this...either that or the NRL have had a change of heart over the past few weeks.

At the end of the season Midley wrote in his Knights Insider that the NRL were already in advanced negotiations with a new owner. Now Quayle is saying they have no intentions of going down that path yet...

Really though we should be allowed to have a say in this. Nothing is going to change until we have a complete shake up at the top level.

What can we do about this?

Nothing. The knights is all about what their fans want. And in general, knights fans are geniuss.

If Quayle is fair dinkum and wants the best fort the knights he should be looking at the private ownership business model of Souths. Increased membership, professional outlook, appropriate coaching set up, financially could not be better and a premiership.

But we will look at doing it the Newcastle way.

It's a ominous sign, private ownership has worked for Souths, Melbourne and Brisbane, is borderline with the tits and was okay for us until the last 6 months.

But the NRL doesn't want to entertain it for us, it's sinister, it's almost like the NRL doesn't want the Knights to get a leg up and to have an owner that won't lie down.

So back to the main topic at hand regarding the Mata'utia brothers. Sione said this after winning Rookie of the Year at the club's presentation night:

"I'm Newcastle through & through, Newcastle is my first option. This is god's country, I want to stay here with my mum and my family."

If true, almost would bet on him staying with Newcastle.

Might not be all doom and gloom after all guys. Heads up.

The Brett morris story going around and now the Beale story is going around too pretty hard. If they happened there is no way they could afford or even make room for them.

We shall see. Perhaps this was all a rouse for the Dogs to help his manager up their price by Knights. Either way they are good young kids. I am sure if they stay even on overs Sione will be worth it. Channel looks quiet good too.

Maybe they regret doing it and want to stay. Maybe the above was made up by someone.

Who knows. Wherever they are I am sure 1 of them have a real bright future. Another good enough for most NRL clubs if they continue to develop.

On a side note, valid point someone else just said. At an award night for Newcastle hardly going to say yeh can't wait to leave.

I still feel though they will stay with Knights. We will see.

I still believe Koukash will get his way. He will play the game on this so to speak. He just has to do what he does best. Be a businessman first. As frustrated as he must be at least he hasn't blown up like Tinkler did when Burro and Tew prolonged negotiations back in 2010.

I feel Matt Gidley will be pushed aside when the new board comes to fruition. I will actually feel partially bad for the dude cos he has been placed in a very unenviable position. Might be time we lay off the fella cos he has a hell of a lot to deal with since Tinkler dropped him and the club in the grinder.

Nah, don't think so. If that were the case he would have just done the old "I love the club and am thankful for what it's done for me blah blah blah" he wouldn't have said that the Knights are his first option and he wants to stay. That's pretty to the point.

It's no new information anyway. We knew from the get go they didn't want to leave...at the end of the day though they're professional athletes who need to make $ so if they're manager can get them a much better deal elsewhere they'll have to take it. Bottom line is we're run by the NRL currently and have no access to third party money so there's no question the Dogs will put forward better offers. That's my only concern.

I wouldn't be to concerned if I was you. The Dogs won't pay overs to get them. Sione looks like a future gun. Chanel looks quiet good, though won't be a superstar I don't think. The other I know nothing on. I mean in a few years time they could get some massive money. Though it's not like they are going to have an offer that completely blows the Knights out of the water. If they can get close to it or match it (which they obviously could due to cap space from Boyd, Mason etc going) they will likely stay in my opinion.

It's just the whole game that is being played is hard to read yet. I mean all they have to do is say we regret and Dogs will pull the offer like they did with Fifita. Then they are stuck with no options bar Knights. Would be best for you guys. Means you could offer them much less

What the Dogs and the Knights consider "overs" though is much different. Given the Dogs have access to a fortune in third party money they don't mind paying a lot more because they rarely put much of it under the cap (like Fifita's offer containing more money out of the cap than in it). Knights on the other hand are run by the NRL and have zilch in the way of additional money to offer. Anything they give them will come from under the cap which makes it a lot harder to offer overs given you still have to pay a whole squad of players.

The Dogs pulled the Fifita offer after they'd already screwed him over. I'd be regretting signing too if I realised my contract consisted of 350k under the cap and 450k un-guaranteed third party money  If the boys do go there I hope their manager has gone over the offer very carefully after the Fifita fiasco.

You call it that way. I'll call it another. Hatred vs Love.

I agree they had 450k under the cap. The other 400k outside. Though Fifita shot himself in the foot. Someone I am pretty close with is very close to the Fifita family. He was told by his manager to shut his mouth. It is very common. He just couldn't get his head around it. There was also part of it in back ended deals.

Regardless I am glad the Club are out of that one. He is a quality player. Though a headcase.

You can claim to have all the inside info you want but everyone knows that Fifita intentionally worked to get the Bulldogs to pull out of that deal when he realised it was dodgy.

I don't blame him. You're right though, he's a moron. Nobody with half a brain would agree to a deal where more than half the money was not guaranteed to begin with. His manager has a lot to answer for as well.

Hence why I hope the Mata'utias have someone who genuinely has their best interests at heart going over these contracts with them. As much as I'd be shitty if they left I wouldn't want to see them screwed over.

Mate, I don't claim to have inside info at all. I have very few contacts. Though this one is 100% and I mean as in direct word from him and his wife.

That said, he is in a really bad state at the moment. He f**ked up and is to blame. Not the Dogs. This is again something very very common. Look at Lockyer. He admitted to being paid 250k under the cap.

I agree with you, no one should be screwed over. No one would of been. He was just being an idiot, ignored his manager. Though in his defense he is not the smartest bloke and he has also come from nothing to stardom and they have an awful lot going on in life now.
