The Newcastle Knights remain in contract negotiations with Chanel, Pat and Sione Mata'utia.

The three brothers are currently signed with the Club until the end of season 2015.

The Fifita deal was said to be 450k under the cap, 400k outside of it. In which he didn't like. Which is where the problems began.

This only further supports the Dogs have plenty to spend. The NRL cleared the contract for the Dogs. There was nothing and is nothing illegal about this.

If the Dogs can throw $400k at any one player outside the cap, then it only underlines my point further. The Knights, and many other clubs, wouldn't be able to organise such a deal for all of their players combined, let alone alone a single recruit. Yes, the salary cap is totally broken, I agree completely.

An 800k contract with half outside the cap is extraordinarily uncommon, to the point that the NRL said they would block such a deal under a similar premise to Folau's contract at Parra being denied - that their market value is not reflected in their contract value under the salary cap. I am not here trying to fight or argue with you guys. You jumped down my throat and called me names when I was simply discussing things with other posters.

You are clearly angry and frustrated with your club. Every right to be. It sucks when other clubs secure your talent. You are NOT the only club to have this done. The Dogs have gone through it for years too. Even more annoying when they are under contract like Mason, SBW etc. I use to be frustrated that the Roosters could do this.

Now I accept it is part of the sport sadly. It is a business. Loyalty is pretty much non existent. Not just in the players though the clubs too.

Any well operated club is constantly looking for good young talent. Any good manager is constantly looking for better deals. Any good player is wanting to make sure they make some big money especially before retirement.

In this circumstance I don't blame the Dogs. I blame the Knights board, staff and overall organization.

I have stated like others have how it felt when we lost the reigning Dally M in Barba, who this year recruit another in Milford and potentially Boyd yet were investigated for cap irregularity's.

We have lost other established superstars like Mason, SBW, Asotasi, Myles, Idris etc over the years. We have then lost up and coming exciting talent like Carter, Sezer, Burr along with several others in past years.

This is a case of the club screwing up, the player or the players agents seeing and getting more money or someone getting a chance for either better opportunity or at the time a better ran club.

It is a sad part of the business. Though it is exactly that.

This is how I see it too. It's easy to say 'this should have been wrapped up earlier.' If you're the Mata'utia's brothers or their manager, why would you wrap it up earlier? All the papers and commentators are fapping over you as the weeks roll on, why would you sign a new deal as soon as possible? Let your asking price go up as the hype does.

Gidley is literally quoted in that article saying they've been working on this for weeks and they were close to getting it sorted. We even agreed to their terms (not the other way around). Yes our current admin may be a joke but to me we simply don't have the evidence yet that they've dropped the ball on this one.

At this stage I'm with you on this Rod...I think Managers will be Managers and 'play the game' for who they represent. It's not the first and won't be the last time Player Managers pump up the rumour mill for advantage.

The true test of Gidley's CEO credentials will be how he handles it from here.
