I don't care if Newcastle were shit that win was morale boosting for the lads.

How good were marsters, Suli, einsenhuth, twal and Brooks in particular.

NFI how woods was our man of the match

Woods was good but those guys were also great. I though Tui looked real good as well.

The only thing with Marsters is I'm not sure if he is going to cut it long term as a centre or a backrower. He is going to struggle to make the team next year.

Early days. I don't think Marsters saw as much ball as Suli did for example, they seemed to go the other side more

I reckon his position is middle/edge forward. So much silky skill for a big guy

Just watched the replay, geez, I thought Woods was very good, those off loads, he will be missed.

The 2 centres have a great future ahead of them. Imagine them in a few more years.

Does anyone else think that Twal looks like Teddy.

If Grant is staying, then I don't think we don't need another prop, Packer, Matulino, Grant,,Einsenhuth & Twal, will do me.

Woods offloads were great. When he does that he is a real good prop. I'm not sure if we need another prop either. I definitely think our forwards look solid for next year but I think we need someone who can come on and really have some impact. If Taylor hadn't let Taupau go we would have the perfect player for that role.

Marsters has jumped Chee-kam in the pecking order & will most likely b fighting for a spot in our 17 next yr on bench as a utility.

Our depth in most positions looks to have improved dramatically for season '18.

Marsters has been a lot better than Chee-Kam. Chee-Kam has too many mistakes in his game.

I don't want to get too carried away as by Newcastle's own admission they were terrible, but there is a difference with selecting players that are in the teams plans for next year. With these guys there is effort on effort, which has been lacking.

The introduction of Marsters, Eisenhuth & Twal have all been positive.

I don't think 2 hookers is working, this team would benefit greatly with having an 80 minute hooker on so many levels, whether this is McIlwrick or Liddle I am not too fussed, I suspect IC is leaning towards Liddle but waiting for him to develop a bit as he is still very light and susceptible to injury if played for 80, but having a hooker on the bench is a luxury we cannot really afford.

I will be interested to see how we go against Manly, any improvement will be good, but I have circled the game against the Eels. It would be good to get a win there and I don't think we are that far of it.

If I was IC I'd tell Liddle to play out the rest of 2017 in nsw cup. I would also say this isn't an insult to your ability, I just want you to improve physically against men to get ready as full time hooker next year.

Mcillwrick plays out rest of the year as our 1st choice hooker (80 min)

It's a real tough decision for next year onwards also because both players have significant attributes. Mcillwrick is very good defensively and can play very direct which will be enormous next year

And at the same time Liddle is very quick off the mark and can cause havoc for back peddling defense which will suit out attack better

If we beat Parra I will be satisfied quite a lot. No way do I want that pimply faced Moses going one up on us

However parra are going great guns so can't see it happening

That would be my choice too. I believe a hooker in the bench is a waste, especially if there is lolo and watson, who can fill in for injury. Reynolds too in a pinch.

Taylor didnt let Tapau go....Manly made him a 4 year offer that we couldnt come near ....Taylor had zero money to spend from day 1 yet got us within an inch of the finals in his second season despite the legendary distraction and not one player improving under his watch....go figure.
Howabout changing the record?

I don't believe this. I think if we had decided to spend money on players like Taupau instead of Broses we might have kept him. I don't see how Taylor can be viewed as anything but a dud coach and most importantly in relation to his recruitment and retention.

He bet the farm on the big 4. He gave them control of the team. They did go close to delivering for one season but it was all built on sand.

I will be fair to him in that no one could have predicted what merkins those players were and we now have a good cap but to make out that he was a good coach is laughable.

Taylor did let Taupau go. He also knowingly let Austin go. He also knowingly let Addo Carr go when he only signed with the Storm for 170k a year. He also agreed to let Farah and Sironen go whilst we continued to pay them the vast majority of their wage.

He is the worst coach in modern NRL history.

I agree. I think he was hard done by and he handled himself with class after it came to an end. I even think if he had another chance he might cut it.

None of my points on his side though change how bad he was.

I dont want to bash Taylor, as honestly its in the past.

But his resume doesnt look great does it - and Im not just talking about his time with us.

The bottom line is that he was the wrong coach for us at the time.

And given recent moves, Ivan looks like the right one.

Time will tell.

I can see Jason Taylor walking around gloasting how good he is at the moment. Someone who doesn't know him will ask "what do you do?"

Taylor will reply "assistant coach of the Roosters. Top 4 you know what I mean."

What a Merkin thinks he's a good coach by joining a top 4 team halfway through the year.
