Sione's numbers were way better last year. He went through a nine-game run of 100+ metres to finish the 2016 season. Three of those were 140+ and another three were 120+.

He has only hit 100 metres twice this season and the most was 112. Maybe it is the style we are playing but if it is then we need to change that because second-rowers need to be hard to control on the edges.

Sorry I stand corrected I didn't realise he was producing those kind of numbers last year. My perception was just based on mostly what I'm seeing this year - which is Sione, Barnett and Buhrer mostly just taking hit ups back to the middle which IMO isn't the best way to utilise them. We need to expand our attack.

Yeah no doubt the edge players would all look better running off someone who knows what they're doing. I think what we're seeing at the moment is none of them are the sort of quality that can just create something out of nothing.

This is why I want Guerra in the second-row and not lock. Punch and metres on the edge brings another dimension.

Mullen didn't get shoved into first grade with a deadbeat halves partner though. He learned from arguably the greatest.

Mullen debuted at 18 in the horror that was early 2005. He and Joey only overlapped for the end of 2005 + 2006 in which he wasn't even in FG for most of that. Most of his early time in FG he was the senior half and playing in a similar quality of squad that Lamb is now.

I'm not completely writing Lamb off by any means but I am concerned about how limited his skill set is at the moment. Yes he's in a poor squad but he's had enough games for us to get a general feel for what he can and can't do. Quite a few times now he has actually had space but he's been tackled with the ball because he's been too slow. When you can't run and you also seem to struggle with your passing game it really does limit you as a half.

I'd prefer 2 Lambs than one Hodko (despite his good game today) but we're in serious trouble if we want to bank on him developing into a top line half IMO.

Maybe you should hang out with the positive nancys on MS and the knights Facebook groups.
And I didn't say you couldn't celebrate it. I said you wouldn't deserve it. You see no positives in what is happening right now. Nothing but whinge.

You must be great fun to have a beer with.

I'm no more negative than everyone else here in game day threads kiddo.

Get off your high horse. You seriously think that you are more deserving to bask in success than any other knights fan? I have never heard such wankery.

I was literally just being positive in the Jacob saifiti thread, I have positive posts in other threads. I am oozing positive vibes from my pores.

Couldn't help but be proud of them today. Struggled but managed to scramble well early on. Began to win the ruck and played some of the best footy we've seen all year and then lost it all at the end. We just don't know how to win. It's bloody heartbreaking.

If Sione is in your fantasy team you aren't going to last long in the finals any way. Time to go and let us grieve...

It's a shame Pete looks like going. He has always looked like a solid first grader and today I'd go as far to say he was best on ground.

Don't think Lamb has had the opportunity to showcase what he can really do. I agree there's some young halves who are showing more positive signs than Lamb but he hasn't exactly had the luxury of playing behind a forward pack that are on top consistently or surrounded by players who aren't at his own stage of development.

Reality is we have a 20 year old with still under a season of FG games trying to steer around a side with similar levels of experience at the top level. Not too many young halves would be doing any better.

In decence of Lamb have a look at the fwd pack the Melb halves got to play behind last night and how they went.

Put Lamb behind that lot and he would do just as good.

They got belted 22 to 6 by Parra with a pack that puts us to shame. More importantly the Melb kids have been eased into top grade. A luxury we dont have...

Just my opinion on this game
:sob::sob::sob::sob::sob::sob::sob::sob:
So close, a much improved performance and effort but like some of our other close losses there is just those few stuff ups that cost us big.
Just couldn't believe it to be honest.

Sooo... Another depressing start to the week... It's quite amazing the new and fantastically spastic ways we find ways to lose...

At least it's better than last year where we weren't even in games ... if they improve this much again next year we will win a lot of games

& SKD could debut for us vs Brisbane

Meanwhile, Newcastle could be boosted by the club debut of Kiwi international Shaun Kenny-Dowall this weekend.

The outside back is pushing to return from a hamstring he suffered while doing sprint training before joining the Knights before the June 30 transfer deadline.

On Saturday the Knights host Brisbane and coach Nathan Brown is hopeful of unleashing the veteran at McDonald Jones Stadium.

“Shaun had a slight hamstring issue himself, and what with being at the Roosters and not being at training he probably needs to get over his hammy and do some rugby league based training ... he was doing a lot of speed training,” Brown told the club website.

“Whether he’s going to play against the Broncos or the week after that, I would have thought it would be in that period.”

Knights mail: Shaun Kenny-Dowall (hamstring) is a strong chance to debut for the club this weekend. Ken Sio is poised to return from a back injury. Sione Mata’utia is sidelined with a hand injury.

SKD into the centres for Wardle, and Gagai onto the wing for Chanel Mat and that's a very good backline we'll have for the rest of this season.
