Is that actually the rule these days? Is there no onus for the ball to travel forward for a knock on anymore?

Genuine question, because even taking that rule interpretation... surely given the Manly players arm was towards our in-goal, not theirs, it's still play on? Or is any contact, regardless of direction sufficient for a knock on now?
