Barnett clearly didn't intend to reverse spin flying elbow a guy in the jaw to kill him but he still intentionally raised his elbow to the guy's face.

I'm not saying he deserves to get fired but that was a bad mistake. Regardless of intention, regardless of the damage, he is a leader in the team and he needs to make sure those stupid plays don't happen. If he gets 3 weeks, he gets 3 weeks, if he gets 10 weeks, he gets 10 weeks. I'm just really disappointed as a big big Barnett fan.

Will I start hating the bloke? Of course not. I hope he really apologizes sincerely to the team and to the fans. I'll be back cheering him on like nothing happened once he is back though!

Or swinging an arm into someone's head like NAS did last night - you only get a $1000 fine for that!

Mitch is going to cop a big suspension and rightly so. I was sickened by the hit.

But the fact that NAS got off with a $1000 fine for that hit to the head just reinforces my belief that the punishment a player receives is dependent on what club they play for, and who they are.

Like Saint Peter has said before, the NRL is in the entertainment business. So you go easy on the big clubs and punish those clubs that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, like us.

It's not a competition. Competitions are meant to be fair. It's an entertainment business.

'he just raised his forearm'
'he didn't cock his elbow'
'he thought there was gonna be a collision'
'only 4 weeks'

😂
Some deluded f**kers here

So you reckon the NRL Judiciary should throw the bread (sorry book) at him?

I reckon Mitch will be carrying a heavy loaf right about now. He'll be thinking his chances at the judiciary are toast.

Mitch is going to be in Tip Top shape when he eventually gets back in the team though.

Lots been said about Barnett but I’m thinking that less than 4 is very unlikely, 4-6 probably and 7+ I will be a bit shocked especially based on other poorly handled incidents.

Last time a Newcastle player did an elbow this bad was Clint Newton on Ashton Sims - that very night

I'd suggest Newcastle Knights is one of the clubs that does matter in the scheme of things. Behind the Broncos certainly and maybe the Storm. That's why you get so many Sunday home games. Big crowds on TV make the game look good. None of which has anything to do with NAS getting off lightly.

Clint was performing a community service. Ashton was never the same after that hit and cost the Broncos a GF appearance in 2008. The Storm then went onto the 2008 NRL GF and were walloped 40-0 by Manly.

Clint indirectly screwed over both the Broncos and Storm with that hit so he probably deserves a medal for services to rugby league.

At least we do most of our dirty work on the field. Your club boasts players like Bird, De Belin, Burgess, Sailor, an attempt to sign Hayne the same week he gets charged, signing Packer fresh from prison...

Isn't there another forum format you should be destroying?.

Broncos, daylight, daylight, daylight, then the Storm for their obvious ties to Murdoch, closely followed by the Bunnies, Rorters, and Parra.

Recent times maybe, go back a few years and we were not getting a lot of Sunday TV games. Sunday games maybe, but hardly any TV games. They were embarrased to put us on show back then I'm sure.

Something that would be forgotten in the wash up was the set after Dom Young’s try when Clifford puts in an early kick into the corner and the Panthers were pinned inside their own 20.
The Knights had all the momentum until D Safiti puts out a lazy arm on the 3rd tackle.
Coach killer right there.
The brothers are good for a silly error/penalty, definitely need to get this out of their game.

MITCH Barnett's Newcastle teammates have rallied around him and encouraged the besieged back-rower to continue playing the same way as he prepares to appear before the NRL judiciary tonight
Barnett was sent off for an elbow to the jaw of Penrith forward Chris Smith in Newcastle's 38-20 loss in Bathurst on Saturday and his case has been referred straight to the judiciary. It is not the first time he has been in hot water with the game's law enforcers, but his teammates and coaching staff love Barnett's aggressive playing style, which has twice earned him the Danny Buderus Medal as Newcastle's player of the year.

"These things happen in footy," Knights forward Tyson Frizell told the Newcastle Herald

"It might have looked intentional, but I know for a fact that he's not the kind of person who would deliberately do something like that.

"I don't want Barney to change the person he is, or the way he plays. He's been great for us and I guess sometimes things can go wrong.

"That's the way it is in footy. It's obviously in the process and the judiciary will deal with it, but as a teammate and a friend, I wouldn't want Barney to change the way he is."

Frizell has played with and against Barnett and described him as a "tough competitor" and a "great asset" to the Knights.

"Hopefully we have him back on the paddock as soon as possible," Frizell said
