Has any player in the NRL had commentators blow so much smoke in their arse for doing absolutely nothing compared to Best? Every single week they wax lyrical about him and how dangerous and destructive he is, but 95% of his contributions are rubbish. Even with more early ball compared to previous seasons, he’s doing very little to warrant the gushing from the commentary box.

so were both Saifitis, Clune, Jones, Sue, Randall and Thompson… so he wasn’t on his own.
True, true. Most of them at least are usually a net positive for us though. What upside does Crossland have? Sigh.

It's like Ponga all over... Talk about his hype and what he can maybe do rather than what he actually does.

He did do a nice job for our only try tonight but yeah the way they talk about him you'd think he's twice the player Gagai is...

Surely we don't resign Ponga. Every one of this rosters deficiencies was exposed tonight and having $1.2 million a season tied up with one underperforming player doesn't allow us to fix said roster.

Some of the issues are effort and gameplan related but much of it is that some players just aren't very good and likely never will be. Not many Knights players would make a top side. Ponga is not alone though. Saifitis and Best just aren't going to that next level either. Too much cap tied up in half a dozen underperformers and a one dimensional forward pack. The halves play within themselves when Ponga is there too.

He's yet another one we all thought would kick on and just didn't. Injury prone and complete one trick pony. If he can't barge over the top of someone he's got nothing. A slightly better Junior Sau thus far and that's only because he can actually pass from time to time.

We can build a competitive team around Ponga. He shits me too, but he isn’t the problem.

Reality is we are only going anywhere producing our own and we just don’t produce many athletes. The blokes running riot against us tonight were bigger stronger and faster. Two weeks in a row our forwards have been steamrolled.

Brian Smith got crucified for it, but he was right to recruit big blokes and teach them to play football, rather than rely on the “hard working” Brodie Joneses of the world that we spit out of our catchment.
