Mateo offloads to Mateo

Im not going to say Mateo is too flashy and its to do with being polynesian... he just has lousy self control. Dave Taylor has as much skill for a big man but enough sense to know when to just cling onto the pill and hit the ground.

Anyway, i've ragged on him enough, and he's only got one game left in the blue and gold. Lets pray he manages less than 3 turnovers next week.

I've watched a few Souths games and Burgess is also becoming like that. He too is starting to throw stupid passes.

Guys, I know you're all heartbroken by the result, as am I. But let's calm down a little, please - Mateo, for all his stuff ups, was genuinely trying out there. And for a while he really looked like our only attacking threat.

I've been critical of him this year but I cannot kick a guy when he's down - particularly when the bloke gave 100%.

For what it's worth I'm disappointed we lost but happy that the boys showed enough heart to claw back and almost win. Sure, it's frustrating as f**k to see. But I'd rather than than rolling over and getting rolled.

I used to play a fair bit of junior footy, had alot of polynesian blokes out on the wings. There are 2 types of polynesian players - the Fuifui mould who just go for a hit up and smash people like no tomorrow and then there's the Inu/Mateo-esque type who play for the glamour and prefer to be exciting rather than consistent. Coach told me he's had to deal with it for a while now and that it's hard to coach it out of them...Still, we were all 14 year old kids back then, you'd expect less stubbornness from a professional player of 20+ years...

We had the same at our school when I was younger.
We played a lot of basketball too and we all tried the flashy stuff, flick passes and behind the back passes, but most of them didn't know when to stop and did it at the wrong time in crucial games.

As you say, you couldn't stop them doing it though. Which is a great character trait IMO, but when you are a professional footballer you need to pull your head in a bit.

I think if Parra doesnt buy a quality organising half-back in 2011 I think you will find out in 2011 just how valuable Mateo can be to the team.

If we dont sign any other players and with the retirement of Cayless as well, can someone please tell me who will be the player in 2011 besides Hayne who will be creating an offload or passing the ball?? Can someone answer that question? Because at the moment there arent any other players we have on our 2011 roster that can pass or create anything...

Any suggestions???

Yeah they do stupid sh*t at crucial times, yet they can also win you an impossible game... they create magic out of nothing, think back to the game Parra V Brisbane, don't remember if it was 08 or 09, it was the Mateo/Inu combo that got us into that game from nowhere in the last 10 minutes (before we succumbed to Lockyer class...), thats the kind of thing that we will really miss, now all we've got is Hayne (as others have mentioned.)

He's under contract to Bradford next year, just doesn't want to be there as they're getting pumped regularly and won't make the finals. And he is 32 years old now as well...

The thread basically revolves around the masterpiece Mateo Deluxe, where he made the most stunning moment of the decade by offloading to himself. It was an absolutely amazing work of art from the Michael Angelo of offloading.
