He’d certainly be an upgrade on Lachlan Coote, that’s for sure.
Not so sure about that. Coote ran hard and tried to bust tackles and put his body on the line. But in speed and probably attacking in the line I would agree now..
but Coote would be nearly over the hill by now

RAIDERS REVEAL PRIORITY SIGNING

The Canberra Raiders have opted to make signing a halfback a priority – meaning St George Illawarra fullback Matt Dufty has been told the Green Machine will refrain from making him a contract offer.

Dufty toured the national capital a fortnight ago to meet coach Ricky Stuart and CEO Don Furner but the Raiders have decided to make signing a No.7 for next season the club’s primary target.

Ex-St George Illawarra five-eighth Gareth Widdop is the name we keep hearing is top priority.

The Josh Hodgson situation has now taken on a completely different context in Canberra. With the Raiders in need of senior players and leadership combined with Hodgson’s return to form, there’s a theory now doing the rounds the Green Machine want to retain the English No.9.

I'm a fan and am disappointed he'll be leaving.

But I'm more disappointed that it seems like many others, he was so thoroughly MacGregored that he'll be lost to the Australian game.
What about all the Under 19’s NSW hopefuls he is supposedly now coaching
The Blues better start their own dynasty now cause when the current crop finish up McGregoritus may infiltrate and it will be a long way back

Think about it people. All this Dufty defensive criticism is fine so long as we are going to be equally critical of a whole raft of other backs who don't offer points in attack. They too should be on notice/in the firing line.

If we just rely in youth to replace Matt, we will be held to 1 try many times again next season.
Look how Broncos relied on youth and where are they now.

Don’t kid yourself some of even their 1st grade youth is some of the best in the comp
Their spine combo is their problem and has been for years
They have let go some good young players too That they should not have
Like us their board and recruitment people lost the plot and are to blame
wasn’t all Siebold’s fault as everyone made out

Exactly bigredv.

Put the microscope on any player and you will find any number of "deficencies".
Hardly fair when Duff has so much to offer on the "other side of the ball" (as hook would say).

Imagine if this had happened to Blacklock or Soward.
They would have been moved on...

(written before SOO 2)
With Reece Walsh now out, or even before, if Duff was a Queenslander he would have been playing SOO tonight.
But he's from Penshurst.
And that's in NSW.
Right?

Go on.
Select him.
It's within the rules.
You've got nothing to lose.

The petition to keep Dufty made made our fan group look like a bunch of f**king idiots IMO.

Dufty, whilst being a fast player with increasingly good ball passing skills isn’t and won’t be a premiership winning fullback, in the NRL.

hence why no other club has stepped up.

his 25 years old and had more than enough opportunities to fix his defensive game but it has never seemed to be a priority for him.

Sloan in 1 game made Dufty look like a pea heart when it came to defence.

Yet this week Hook has brought Dufty straight back in and left Sloan to sit in the stands with no football to play.
