Not if you're letting in 2 for every try (or assist) you score, which is what happened against Cows, have a look at him going for the support player rather than attacking the ball carrier, even the commentators mentioned it.
He just has no confidence or ''ability'' to execute a FRONT ON TACKLE.
End of story.
Not sure that maths adds up?
The cowboys only scored 3 tries, for your theory to be correct they would have needed to have scored 4 tries that were directly related to Dufty errors.
Matt scored 1 and 1 try assist.

Ahh.. I love it..

Dufty misses a tackle in broken play, it’s his fault..

Dufty makes a tackle in broken play, it’s the ball carrier’s fault..

Mate it's more than that and you know it.
He is a gifted attacking player, whom has argubale scored the try of the year to date.

His defence has been shown up several times, he is also hesitant under the high ball and struggles to return any decent metres from the back. These areas are now pivotal for any fullback.

Matt is an exciting offensive player, who can score a try from anywhere, but until the club address his overall game, he will remain an average first grader.

Opposition coaches know his weaknesses and play to them. He is not a 1st grade full back and never will be. For all his attacking flare, he just makes to many errors. Name me another team who will finish in the top 6 who would have him. It is no one's fault, he just doesn't cut it

So he had a good game & should be an automatic selection at FB?
I'm starting to wish we still had Tony Quirk

Matt also fell for two of the biggest Dummies. One of them led to a try

I'm not even sure if he fell for the dummy, I had to watch it again in slow motion as it appeared he just went for the support player, so he didn't have to tackle the ball carrier

I always thought that Dufty needed an experienced Fullback in FG that would mentor him and help bring him through to FG.
I remember when Michael Gordon left Easts and he was available, I thought he would be a phenomenal 2 year solution for us at FB.
Professional and accomplished FB that would have taught him positional play, how to tackle, fielding high balls etc.
For us, Gordon would have been perfect on a short term contract not to mention that he has always been a sharpshooter over many years.
Points, experience and a mentor for the up and comers.

Great attacker, except in kick returns although there has been less rag dolling. Surely he should try and beat defenders with speed rather than run into them (usually 2/3 bigger defenders) and get rag dolled.

He doesn’t seem to follow through looking for offloads like he did early on. Coaching? Does he know the game plan is no offloads?

Clueless in Defence (much like Aitken). He’s either out of position or takes the wrong option.
Hopeless under a high kick (in defence).
You’d think Hornby could coach these aspects out of him? No?

I’m still hoping for improvement.

Why settle for a fringe first grade player who can attack but not defend when you can recruit one who is an SOO standard player who can both attack and defend.

I say let go Dufty, Lafai, Aitken, Maranta, Runciman, Widdop, Latimore, Allgood, Robson, Kerr and any other deadwood and start building a competitive team by signing the Turbo brothers.

2018 Dufty was a shining light for us
2019 McIdiot shops him around , makes him a reserve , then reluctantly puts him back at Fullback
Dufty is now a deer in the headlights , confidence shot.
Mary is a dead set joke
Very close but not quite right. In 2019 Millward and Mary decided to recruit Norman and at the same time keep Widdop forcing Dufty to reserve grade. When Widdop was re-injured, Dufty was brought back into first grade.

If I had a say I would have promoted Field to fullback and only returned to Dufty if Field proved to be unsuccessful in the fullback position. In this way Dufty would have had more time to reflect on his game and work on his weaknesses.

2018 Dufty was not a shining light .. he was really good against teams in the bottom half of the comp but dreadful against the top 8 teams. The exception to that being the sharks game where they lost 3 origin forwards in the first half and dufty was able to exploit that.

good player, not great ... Need better - move on.

He’s the prototypical rocks and diamonds player. He’ll win you a few games but he will lose you just as many.

Hard to win a comp with someone like that in such a key position.

Under a good coaching system he may have had a chance to be a top class player. Not here though. What could be possibly learn from Mary, Hornby, Young etc??

Dufty would be a good fit for the Storm. A good backup fullback behind Hughes and a good project the Storm's coaching staff. We could swap Dufty for the Storms second string fullback or for Manly's Tom Turbo.
