If you look at our squad, Dufty is not the problem. He's a good, potent Ben Barba-esque fullback. The problems are:
  • Our wingers and centres are all reserve graders.
  • We have zero bench forwards.
  • We have no recruitment strategy to address these deficiencies and cannot organise TPAs.
  • McGregor is the coach.
None of it's rocket science and it's crazy to imagine additional problems when the real ones are so glaring and obvious.

Be sure not to cheer when we do..
If I'm wrong, I'll be cheering the loudest and happy to admit I was wrong.
If I'm right, I will be very unhappy.
Unfortunately, considering to where we have plummeted, it is not about being right or wrong, it's about how are things going to turn around.
I don't see anything on the horizon that suggests we can win a premiership any time soon.
With hand on heart, do you?

Just for muzbys benefit
You can afford to have a FB miss a few more tackles when you have great strike power
We have little to no strike power against good sides so best your FB doesn’t miss tackles that should be made
I note whilst you are quoting % etc you fail to address the type of tackles Dufty missed or didn’t attempt and I believe that is quite relevant.

So it’s the fullback’s fault if the rest of the team isn’t firing?

And types of tackles missed? Wow.. You really are looking for an outlier here aren’t you?

You go from the sublime to the ridiculous which makes a discussion with you almost impossible
You seem to also forget I was a staunch Dufty supporter and still wish him well but I have formed an opinion based on what I have seen that at our club under this coaching he will never make it
Under a good structure he most probably would
So as our coach is going nowhere we obviously need much better cattle in some positions than what we have and FB is one of those positions
So I am not blaming Dufty as you tried to imply as I see him as a victim of the place as have been many others.

Nothing ridiculous, I’m merely honing down the statistics until we get to one that proves an alternative view to what the aggregated comparative numbers show..

So.. If Dufty would be a great player under another coaching regime, what’s not to say a good player who came here would not regress?

The problems lie in the coaching box, not out on the field.

I see a great team who are mismanaged.

We keep the core of that team together and get a proper coach and we can go far..
I believe that window of opportunity has now closed.
Our forward pack needs to be reinforced and our backline still needs to be overhauled.
I can't see how that constitutes a potential premiership winning team even with a coaching upgrade.

That’s okay.. You’re allowed to feel like that..

Just like to point out that if a fullback is no in the right position and a break is made and he gets nowhere near the attacker he does not get the chance to make a tackle and therefore does not have the opportunity to register a tackle or missed tackle.

Unfortunately, Dufty gets lazy at times and gets caught out of position. Hard to see on TV but if you are at the game, its bloody obvious. Please note I have watched him for a long time and I though he would be a strike fullback for us. I still hold hope and would love to see him prove me wrong, but he has three areas that are substandard.

1. He starts watching the game rather than moving into the correct defensive position ie moving laterally with the ball.
2. Returning the ball after a kick, he needs to run at speed. Both to get the ball and back at the line.
3. This one I think is Mary's attack plan but, in CC Dufty would always hunt up the middle and get offloads from our forwards. He and Lucky would combine many times. This isn't happening in FG because Mary has him positioned as a link player. I'd rather have him creating second phase plays up the middle.

Anyway, Dufty if you are reading this please prove me wrong. You really have the potential.

Some of the tackles Dufty misses or doesn’t get to (bad positioning) as well as some of his basic mistakes (catching)
are actually on and in his own head.
He has to take ownership of those things and considering the number of games he has now played it is apparent he isn’t making very much if any progress.
I do believe some players would regress under our coaching structure and I also believe many quality players would avoid us for that very reason. IMO the more time Dufty has been under coach the worse his attack has become and therefor having no offset his other deficiencies appear even worse.
So taking that all on board I firmly believe there are some things Dufty can fix by hard work & dedication but as he is walk up start at our club there seems to be no urgency in him fixing what is apparent to all & sundry except you and a couple of others.
Not picking on him just pointing out the obvious.
