Matthew Lodge Arrested in New York

I note in today's paper the Broncos sponsor NRMA Insurance urging the club to make arrangements for Lodge to pay the damages ordered against him in the US. While this really should have been agreed upon before he put pen to paper (and been a part of the written contract) it is hard not to be amused by the irony of an insurance company urging someone else to pay a claim so they'll (NRMA) look good.

Broncos CEO Paul White:

"Inside the last fortnight, Matt has also publicly stated that he in no way supports violence against women, and continues to work hard to improve himself as a member of society and within the NRL community."

What a bizarre thing to say. Who would come out and say "I support violence against women"???

It's just an entire sh*t show that continues to degenerate into a circus. It could have been avoided if the NRL had some foresight to get in front of this early. I've moved on from blaming the media because they are hungry for clicks and the NRL has given them an absolute beauty with this c*ck up.
I've got no doubt the victim compensation will be paid sooner rather than later as a way of putting a full stop to all of this.

Inglis reported being called a “black dog” as he left the field to undergo a head injury assessment in the Rabbitohs’ 18-14 loss to Penrith on Saturday with the Panthers and NRL immediately launching an investigation.

Panthers bosses Brian Fletcher and Phil Gould continue to pore over CCTV footage in order to hopefully identify the offender who is unlikely to be allowed to return to Panthers Stadium if found.

“You’re not welcome in the game, you’re not welcome to be part of the game and in fact you aren’t part of the game,” was Greenberg’s blunt message.

“If we do (find the person) we’ll throw the book at him.

“It’s disgusting. I don’t have to say the type of things that the game does in being inclusive and the work it does in indigenous programs.

“It’s a good reminder that that work needs to continue and we need to keep doing it because there are parts of society that need that reminder.”

So he has a zero tolerance approach to alleged racist comments from a fan (no issue with that btw). But is fine with a player that bashes woman, terrorises a family threatening to murder them and their child and then resists arrest.

Racism needs to be dealt with harshly. But you would think assaulting woman would atleast be treated as seriously as a few racist words. Or that going on an alcohol and drug fuelled rampage looking to murder people might just be viewed as slightly worse again.

I dunno. Maybe it's just me. Again happy for zero tolerance on racists. Unhappy with grubs like Lodge playing this game.

If the Broncos pay it, it should count against their cap.

Also massive brickbats to the Broncos fans in this thread that think playing "well" in a game of footy somehow "silences" critics of his off field behaviour.

I think the NRMA pay over 98% of claims
Insurance companies in general pay when they have absolutely no option. Lodge cannot be compelled to pay until a court order is made against him in Australia. So he really can't be legally compelled to pay until that happens. I don't know about the NRMA, but I've had travel insurance claims refused on spurious grounds before. I know what the industry is like.

I hated him representing us as well.
And was expectant of the sh*t we'd cop.
Not this 'Aww the world is against the bwoncos!'
I don't recall there being a committed and extensive media campaign that targeted Lui and the Cowboys though. Or am I wrong about that?

Who cares, the media is doing it's job.
Don't pull your mental gymnastics sh*t here.
Your club signed a scumbag criminal and deserves every bit of criticism it gets, as does the NRL.

If my club signed a guy of this calibre I'd think we deserved all the crap we got too.
Don't want backlash dont sign a violent criminal.
