A top playmaker would have given a short ball to Lucy who would have sauntered under the posts. That was the high percentage play.
Douehi went the low percentage play which included many variables - one of which occurred.
I agree with you that an eyes up play was required there. A try went begging.

I was thinking “ over-coaching” as an explanation. A strict instruction. If so, the theory was all good but the execution at the end.....

This is the controversial moment. The gap for Lucy is wide enough for the Ever Given to get stuck in.

Apart from the irregular positioning of the d, viewers might like to take note of their stances and preparedness.

There’s that second-in defender ( second from left) above following the ball, but his chances of stopping Lucy (if he had the ball) was zero and astute forumers will notice the non-existent cover. The ref was the best placed to stop him if he was a player, but Lucy could have swung left to easily avoid him.

So I agree with you and hope Madge encourages a bit of ad-hoc when opportunity knocks.

An additional but largely unnoticed advantage for the Lucy option was his proximity to the posts for an easier conversion. Not critical on the day, but in theory, very important. Thus a fulsome 6 points was on offer.

If we want to get to the finals, we need this eyes up mindset as much as cunning set plays.

I watched Madge again at the press conference, he was big-picturing as per usual, very pleased as to the resilience and “ growth of the team” as he puts it.

I think there has been growth, but it is not as evenly spread out or as apparent in games as we would have hoped for. So jury’s still out.

Des Hasler will be available at the end of the year even as an assistant, as his contract has kpis in it, which his side is not meeting.

The disconnect for him is frightening and I wish him the best. He’s a very good coach.

Bags Madge, suggestion to fix club is to hire a coach who sounds like a tard and has f**ked up his current club and the last club he was at before that.. Must be April fools, no one could realistically be that stupid.

I still think Madge could benefit from another coach helping him out.

Nothing about sacking him, just giving him extra resources to draw upon. No overriding, just a “ what have you got?” Sounding board.

That is on the basis of the round one and two disasters, not so much round 3.

SGI are going really well with a couple of extra minds in the mix. They don’t have an elite squad like us but they are playing well.

A bit of insurance. Coaching is a tough tough job. A bit less pressure for Madge.

If the roles are clearly defined and he retains power and all that is made clear and concise in public, he should be fine with it.

Des could consider it a lay over until he joins the cows in 2023 or whatever.

But are we in that much trouble? We still need 2 more players.
Did anyone think we would win these first 4 rounds?
IMO far to early to make dramatic changes otherwise risk the season now?

Madge needs an attacking coach to help him.
He has very little in this area for the team.

I expected to win all of them or go down unluckily after busting our guts.
Playing well yet losing is far more preferable to getting arse raped.
A poor showing on Monday will leave us in a perilous position moving forward.

It’s not a dramatic change, just an extra help.

A dramatic change would be a replacement, but I’m not suggesting that.

As you know, l listen very carefully to him. Of the performances in the first 2 rounds he mentioned they were “ 2 very good sides” which is true -but that’s not in our power. What was in our power is how we responded and it was sub-par.

Secondly, my Mbye no try assessment. No heads up and we fluffed it. The that was a perfect example of formulaic thinking. Players captured in coaching prisms. Other clubs will work us out.

No animosity for Madge, just a hand to hold.

Let’s say we reach a play off for finals later this year, we must have our players confident in themselves at appropriate moments to play what they see.

And sometimes that may even mean over-riding Madge in the cut and thrust of the game.

They are paid to think as well.

Interestingly, look at the dogs. Barrett was a much vaunted attacking coach, they havnt scored in 3 weeks!

That was @strykers suggestion. I tend to think our d needs more composure.

But neither of us are ready to throw Madge of the cliff. Just looking for ways to add value.

@WA Tiger has been providing us with general warnings about Madges competency. He just hasn’t seen enough of the “ growth” Madge alludes to. He’s got a compelling case.

Then @Tigerm is asking us to exercise caution and not upset the balance when it appears to be tipping in our favour. That’s another really worthy point, especially following the recent resilience/resurgence. It was a big deal, he’s right too.

I like to consider the different perspectives and the merit in each.

But I’m comfy in the wishy washy atm.

If I get a couple of more likes to this invitation below, I might make “muffed try analysis” a weekly feature for the panel.

poll: would you like TSP to break down one unsuccessful attacking movement per week?

I think this is the knights fullback, almost in the next suburb.

Note Lucy has chilled out and is almost onto his second schooner after not being passed the ball.

Doogies kick was masterclass. He is a high value growth player ( one of Madge’s examples).

On his current trajectory, he will be the best 5/8 in the game within the next 2 years. He’s well paid but so he should be. He’s also very dynamic and exciting.
We are quite lucky to have him.

He hasn’t shown me shit yet.
I thought he was one of the reasons we missed the 8 last year.

His efforts at fullback and in the centres.

Not his fault, the team was only 50% culled last year, if that.

Some footballers don’t play well unless they are in a commanding role.

Some players are born to greatness.

AD was born to play Origin or the lesser of the footballing species, the Kangaroos.

He’s only a few points off the lead in the Dally Ms at the moment and didn’t even play in round 1.

One of these days you’re not going to be able to fall back on the fact that you live in Queensland. Diversity has its limits buddy!
