people must have been living in cave the last 3 years.. and along comes another rookie coach with marginally better than a 50/50 win loss record, and no big wins against top sides and people start thinking we are grand final contenders next season....

here is my opinion people:
1. we have another rookie coach untested under NRL pressure other than a handful of games.

2. we are about 4 - 5 players short of a team that can match it with the heavyweights of the comp.. (2 props, 1 back rower, 1 hooker, 1 centre)

3. we have inept management at the board level, with our CEO pushing for us to leave our home ground and become NRL nomads.. they are also far too slow to act when needed on crucial matters, relying on a "Fake" internal audit to justify their positions..

4. we have an inept marketing and promotional business unit

5. we have a "boys club" mentality in the board, keeping guys like Craig Young involved in the internal affairs.

so sorry to sound negative, but lets call it what it is, and look at how or if we can find a solution as supporters..

It is interesting to note that since we are winning & playing good football the doom makers have gone quiet. Hope the boys can keep up the momentum & finish the season on a bright note even if they may happen to miss the playoffs.
Mary is doing a good job so let's get behind him & support his efforts. It's not too hard if you try.

True fan.

+1.
What worked for clubs 10-20 years ago does not work anymore.
The club is run by Doust the Dinosaur!!

This team has been unable to match it with any team that gives it to them in defense ,hence the losses against all of the higher teams on the table, then we play a few of the lesser quality teams in the comp and win and some are carrying on like we are superstars because they can beat those sides.
The game on the weekend -case in point- Titans were terrible but a lot choose to gloss over that MINOR detail.

Great comment.

Let's quickly review the current Top 8 and our results against these teams in 2014

1. Sea Eagles - Rnd 19 (H) L 21-12
2. Rabbitohs - Rnd 5 (H - SCG) L 26-6 [Price] & Rnd 12 (A) L 29-10
3. Roosters - Rnd 8 (H - SFS) L 34-14 [Price] & Rnd 21 (A) L 20-10
4. Panthers - Rnd 14 (A) L 18-14 & Rnd 22 (H) L 16-4
5. Storm - Rnd 6 (A) L 28-24 & Rnd 16 (H) W 24-12
6. Bulldogs - Rnd 9 (H - ANZ) L 38-6 [Price]
7. Cowboys - Rnd 17 (H) W 27-24
8. Eels - Rnd 10 (A) L 36-0 [Farewell Price]

Our most consistent form against any of these teams this year has come against the Storm. Our somewhat deluded fans will probably gloss over this and say "well thats better than recent seasons against the Storm". Can we truly say that we have learnt any lessons from any of the above games this year?

We played the Rabbitohs in the Charity Shield, and then fairly early on in the regular season as well. A smart coach would have realised after the Charity Shield that we were no match for them in the forwards. I can respect the fact that we are smaller in the forwards than most other teams this year, but where was the alternative game plan in all of the above mentioned losses to try and combat this and at the very least limit the damage?

Once again, I don't think their is a single fan who doesn't want Mary to succeed, but boy we have our work cut out both on and off the field if we're to get this team back where we deserve to have it (i.e. contending for a Top 4 finish with a view to winning the premiership). Hence why the vast majority of us remain skeptical about instilling this responsibility with yet another rookie coach.

LOL at making the finals ,what do you think we would do if on the almost impossible chance we scraped in there(as opposed to they MAY happen to miss the finals), we would be playing side 1 or 2 and the issue i outlined above comes into play and the fact is Mcgregor hasn't been able to get enough out of the side to defeat these sides .

that's the old system man; we would play team 5 or 6, but it doesn't matter because we are no chance of making it anyway. I also think we would struggle to beat any of the teams currently sitting in the 8. The Titans played as bad as any team I have seen in the last 10 years on Sunday so nothing to get excited about.

There are some real primary school kid types on this forum. We lost to Penrith and Mary copped it from pillar to post, I am talking an absolute hammering. Then we beat Canberra and the Titans and Mary get's signed for three years and the same posters bagging Mary are now saying we have a bright future and we will be contenders next year. The best one I've heard was "we have a three year window (of opportunity to win a premiership) with this group". We have a three year window of missing the finals under Mary is about all.

Would like to see us beat a pretty in form Brisbane and that would be a good start as to whether we can beat some of the better teams. I think we are a big chance to beat them, they are somewhat a bogey team recently and it'd be a good win if we can get up.

So the fact that we:
1/ had to take a few games away from our home grounds..
2/ havnt signed every player that has become available...
makes our board worthy of being rubbished and needing to be replaced?
How about we look at this in another way...
1/ if more of you so called fans showed up to games, it would be quiet possible that we wouldnt need the revenue to take home games away.... and
2/ instead of blaming doust, young, mary, and the entire club for not signing every player to ever come off contract, how about instead we aknowledge that they have kept B.Moz, Nighty, Creagh, Merrin, JDB, etc etc as well as signing an international halfs pairing, plus the Dooges, plus Thompsom, plus Beale etc etc
Yeh guys they have also signed some duds, but with a salary cap to play by its inevetable that some cheap signings will be duds, happens to every team!!!
Widdop, Benji, Dugan, Thompson, Beale, Cooper, Frizzell, Mata'utai, thats some pretty impressive signings if you ask me.... plus, if we can land Kasiano next year, then that makes a really impressive list of signings!!
Every team signs duds, give Doust some credit for not paying overs for duds, the Groats and Alamoi's came cheap, and yes he f@cked up with Hunt and Harrison, but shit happens sometimes.
He got us Bennett, fluke or not i dont care, he got us Dugan, again fluke or not is not important, we have him...
And.... He got us what we needed to win a grand final. I finally got to see the red V win a grand final !!!
So f#ck what anyone says, i say thanks Mr Doust, and i know we havnt won it every year since, but fact of the matter is every year out of 16 teams only one will win it, part of the game.
Mary as coach??? Tell me sooks, who else was available? Jason taylor? Brian smith? Tim sheens? PLEASE!!! Mary shits on all of them, Taylor is too far out of the game, Smith, well his record speaks for itself, and sheens, he will retire in a few years and will be remembered as the guy responsible for the dramas at the tigers!!! Mary has the players supporting him, i agree 3 years was overboard but its happened, how bout we just support our team moving forwards???

The problem is not player signings, its the dismantling of our culture that's got me beat. We are just a sticky taped team of players from all over the place, playing at three different venues, with a dinosaur at the helm.

It's not St George anymore..the spirit of the club is being eroded. I never cared where we finished in the past (a premiership is always nice, but you can't win them all), because we were St George, so that was enough. Now, we have an identity crisis because of the joint venture, and the backwards way in which the club is managed. We need to remove Douche once and for all, and lift the "brand" of the club, so we can all cheer them on again regardless of the result. I feel empty cheering this slapped together rabble we have now; it's a culture-less club with only a red V on the jumper to remind us of who were used to be.

So what should we talk about on here, how well the team is going when it actually isn't 'or what a good job Doust is doing when he isn't or how you know so much more than all of us ahhh what do you call us numpties isn't it.

Tough luck its a forum ,sorry it doesn't run to suit only your agendas.

I have to disagree with you on a few points pinkmoon.
the fact is (and yes it hurts me as much as anyone) but we are no longer just st george, we are merged, and as much as that sucks, we have to remember that we are in pretty good shape.
yes, we can be in better shape, but truth is its not the boards fault, or Dousts fault, its our fault as supporters.
we had a must win game, to keep our slim finals chances alive, at our home ground, on a sunday afternoon, and we only got 9500 fans to show up. Thats pathetic!!! Half the people on here calling for Dousts head didnt even show up to the game.
Running a football club is a business, keeping the fans who dont show up and spend money to support theteam happy wont keep the club alive!!!
Im not trying to start an arguement, just stating some facts that some dont seem to understand.

And it doesn't run just to suit yours. As I said once a whinges always a whinger.
So get over it & at least have the knowledge that we have improved under McGregor.

You may not agree with everything buts that's life. We are not aware of what goes on behind closed doors or how much money we have in the cap to spend but bloody hell act like a supporter than a troll

I can see where you are coming from, but the small crowd had a lot to do with playing the Titans (I don't recall too many of them at the game).

I like what Mary has done with the team....I like the fact that he got the job for the next 3 years. I also like what he did with moving The Dugan into the centres.

And what I like the most....is that these decisions have caused so much butthurt and knicker knots to so many in here. Makes for entertaining reading.

:D If things were still going backwards I could understand all the whinging but clearly we have improved. People have said we only flogged Canberra (broke a 14yr hoodoo) and a poor Titans side who nearly knocked off Manly the previous week but if you recall this time last year we had our asses handed to us by Parra (Wooden Spoon) & Tigers (2nd last).

While doing better than we were under Price doesn't make Mary a genius we also can't hold him accountable for where we are on the ladder given Price had destroyed the team over 2.5yrs and had us for 10 games this year. We had lost 7/8 when Mary took over.

By prorata using both competitions points and differential Mary would have us at 5th or 6th. Given he didn't have a preseason doing things his way we could even be going better now, we had to make up too much ground for this season but the team will start 2015 with the belief they are contenders

Yes, that's the best part. Pure bliss. Hey, you should post that in an opposition's forum.
