McGuire eyes off NRL
Sportal

After a sensational year in the Super League, Great Britain's hottest five-eighth Danny McGuire has indicated his next major goal is to make a career for himself in the NRL.

The 21-year-old has set the Super League alight this year, scoring an impressive 39 tries as he helped guide his club Leeds to the premiership title.

Yet, he believes it's in the NRL where he can really develop as a player.

"It (the NRL) is the best competition in the world," McGuire told AAP.

"If you're any sort of player you want to have a go, have a crack and see where you are. I am no different."

McGuire is expected to debut for Great Britain this Sunday (AEST) in the Test against Australia at City of Manchester Stadium.

While still contracted to Leeds for another two years, McGuire is impressed by the feedback he's received from Great Britain teammate Adrian Morley who has carved out a name for himself with the Sydney Roosters.

"I have spoken to Moz (Morley) and he loves it there. He said it's a great life," McGuire said.

"I have been to Australia a few times with Academy tours. I have had a bit of a taste of what happens over there and it would be great to have an opportunity."

"It would be great to get an opportunity over there. But I'm just focused at the moment on what I am doing with Great Britain and Leeds."

Given McGuire's relationship with Tony Smith, you'd think that if McGuire was to play in the NRL he would come to Parramatta. Has anyone seen this guy play, is he better than the mojority of NRL halves?

U'd think maybe our Chris Thorman experiment might be a deterant to him coming to Parra....despite Thorman saying he has not rgrets, hard feelings etc, u'd think he'd have stayed if it was all good.

Mate! this guy is three times the player Thorman is and some, however with most poms there may be a flaw in his defensive game.

This guy is the goods IMO. Come on over. Thorman impressed me for 2 games this season but is not half the player Maguire could be.

I'm not saying I would want danny or don't think he's capable....all i'm saying is that thorman's experience at Parra wouldn't be well observed by others considering the same thing.

Thorman was not a class player. There was a lot of speculation about his game through the English equivilant of State of Origin and his game for England A. I thought we were going to have a good season based on Thorman being our 5/8. But Macguire is a world ahead of Thorman.

Danny McGuire has now reached levels higher than Thorman ever has. ESL Grand Final winning halfback, and now (presumably) first choice England 5/8. I'm sure he'll be nervous on Saturday so you may not see him at his best straight up, but he's the best half in England no doubt. (They're playing him alongside the more experienced Long until he proves himself.)

...except for maybe a guy called Richard Horne who played half at Hull and killed it before he got injured, and they got knocked out of the finals.

And also lil Denis Moran, but he can't play for GB!

I think the jig is up with trying to convince the Poms that Parra is close to the beach.

1) YES let's sign him ... IF we want to stop superstars in the kaning like Green, Smith, Perenara abd Mateo go

2) He may be hot stuff in SL, but how he performs against a poor Australian team (yes, I think this Australian team is crap - Gower? WTF?)

3) He's old lol nah only joking. But we have the next big things at 5/8 already at our club.
