Brian Smith did quite a reasonable job at Newcastle. It was always going to be tough for them life after Joey as the area wasn't producing the juniors that they were in the late 90's. He had to make a lot of tough decisions there and recruit players from other clubs something Newcastle hadn't really done before because they didn't have to.I don't think any coach could have done much better with the side than he did. And because of the structures put in place by Brian Smith the club is now a lot better off.

I know what you mean, I definitely agree....like I said it probably was a poor example :) what I meant though was that a coach can move on from a club and gain amazing success even when they struggle at their old club, one of the reasons I believe Ricky Stuart will bounce back when/if he lands a new job.

Can't believe its been over a year and a half since I been on this thing - but once I heard Jerry's back I thought I had to get on and check out myself. Lets hope he returns to the old form of heading down to the Royal

McGuire to return to Eels

STEELE TAYLOR | 28th September 2010

AFTER 12 years plying his trade in the NRL and in Super League, Kawana's Casey McGuire will return to where he made his first grade breakthrough.
McGuire, 30, will link with Parramatta next season, in a move many Eels fans hope will revive the club's premiership aspirations after its disappointing season.
McGuire made his NRL debut with the Eels in 1998.
He played two games with the club before joining the premiership-winning Brisbane Broncos and then Perpignan outfit Catalans Dragons.
The 183cm, 92kg utility has been with the Dragons since 2007 and captained the team but is expected to return home next month.
“He's decided to come back and be closer to the Sunshine Coast and to family,” McGuire's father Danny said yesterday.
“He likes Parramatta, the club and the people there.”
A Queensland State of Origin player in 2005, McGuire is expected to bolster the ball-playing ranks at the Eels, who will be looking for some added spark after the highly fancied team finished 12th this season.
“He could play five-eighth or hooker or halfback,” Danny McGuire said.
McGuire will return to Parramatta after welcoming two boys to his family in France.
“Two of them went over and four of them are coming back,” Danny said.
McGuire experienced mixed fortunes at the Dragons. The club had some strong performances before finishing with the wooden spoon this year.
“They didn't have a very good season but made the preliminary final the year before and they made the Challenge Cup final while he was there,” Danny said.
McGuire qualified for the French national team under the three-year residency rule but declared he was unavailable for Les Tricolours after a hectic season last year.

Whats even funnier is MAXGIA or whatever his name is has not even posted.

SOunds like whichever board member he is has not even bothered to log on. Look at the facts & take off the blue & gold glasses people & you will see what the board has done since they came into power.

Rumours of Kearney or Stuart have been there since about round 12 last year. Dont believe the spin they are putting on it. This was a excuse to get the job done. Osbourne is a fat thieving prick. Alarm bells shoulld have rang then.

How can you say a coach was punted because he wasn't good enough & in the same sentence say he is a good coach & will have success somewhere else.

Pull you head out of the f**ken sand

And which ex-board member are you, buddy? Go on, take your political rantings somewhere else - we were discussing Casey Maguire.

Is that MAXGIA guy posting in the warriors forum now?
I wonder if he'll hate the Warriors as well if they don't play Mateo at 5/8.

I suppose another example of what you are talking about could be Tim
I can`t believe it, I`m having a seniors moment! The West Tigers coach. What`s his name? Tim ............ bloody hell, I can`t remember it. Anyway, he had a rotten time at the Cowboys, then moved down to the Tigers and won a grand final. Tim Sheens! Ha ha ha, it`s all coming back.

DA is probably one of those coaches that'll only make a team completely overperform in the first year and just bum out the 2nd, except in super league where everything is easy.
I wonder where he'll go next year, Cowboys?

A coach who while still has knowledge is well part it. The Australian team has never looked so soft, weak and disjointed.

:)
I do know my facts, I watched almost every single Knights game last year mate.
I'm commenting on their overall seasons under Smith, and there are better examples anyway that I could of used-true.
If you want to swear and get angry about it that's your problem, I'm not going to get into a slang-match with you.

Do you want dead horse with your dog's eye? ;-)
