Meat

Well, we eat far too much of it.
It's full of saturated fat.
It costs a lot.
It's bad for the environment.
As a country, we'd be richer and healthier if we ate half as much.

I've seen it said that the correct amount of meat to eat is three servings the size of the palm of your hand of lean meat a week.

Good post. Eating excessive red meat is one of the worst things you can do to your body. If you want to live a long healthy life you would be wise to follow the above recommendation.

I eat that in one serving...meh, I'd rather live a few years shorter if it means I get to eat excessive amounts of meat

I eat far too much meat, It's convienient and expected really, but at least i'll eat a vegetarian meal without feeling it's not a real meal.
The mindset we have in Australia of talking about meals by what meat they feature is not a good thing.
We could not only survive by eating cheaper foods such as pasta and bean and grain based meals many times a week - we would actually be healthier if we did.

The worst thing about meat is the fat - so you can eat a lot more if you go for very low fat meat like turkey, kangaroo, rabbit - and of course the fat or oil in fish is actually good for you (except for the high heavy metal levels in long lived and bottom feeding species).
You still don't need as much as we eat and can live much cheaper without it.

One thing I have seen recommended is that you should consider eating smaller portions of really good quality meat - so instead of a 300 gram rump steak and some chips - a 100 gram eye fillet steak with a plate full of quality vegetables for about the same cost.
Twice as healthy - twice as nice - same cost.

Yes we eat way too much.
15% or so of your di is supposed to be protein so when you see that number.
I eat mostly chicken breast and heart smart meat, and have tuna or salmon as well.

Processed meats are another thing.
For the most part, things like salami, devon and even corned meat are just not something you should eat (I eat them anyway of course).
They are full of fat, salt, preservatives - you name it.

Those processed salami twig sticks are my weak point...

Lol same.

Can't stand vegetarian meals actually. I need my meat hook up at least every second day and preferably every day.

But I'm into the chicken a lot more than I am red meat.

I woke up this morning and made ham and cheese sangas, chicken and lettuce for lunch.

Pulled the mince out of the freezer for some Spag Bol 2nite. Win.
