Lisa Carrington is just greatness... we have three golds now, and a 4th guaranteed with Burling and Tuke

Team GB were set a target of 48 medals before the games which would have been our most successful overseas games ever. We currently have 50, another 19 and we could be the first host to win more in the following games.

Well done poms, still skeptical until Tokyo but with a fair chunk of team USAs medals coming from Phelps, Ledecky and Biles its possible USA arent top dog come 2020.

I would be shocked it anyone could catch USA ever. (Other than China)
I'm bot sure why your sceptical funding has increased since London.

Something has gone seriously wrong with this Australian Olympic team....Swimming, rowing, hockey, cycling have all been poor showings.
1/2 of the basketball teams is out now.
And what's more is some of these guys aren't even getting to the finals/winning medals.

Perhaps we'll find out when the athletes return to Aus but I'm wondering if something's gone on behind the scenes.

It really makes you think about how special Freeman was to win her race, she didn't even look happy she won just relieved!!

Freeman winning that was absolute bullshit.See the opposition she beat? They were crap the lot of them.

And what the Oz public conveniently block out of their minds is the fact that the best competitor in the world, the French woman (her name escapes me ATM),was hounded so badly by the Australian media, she fled the country.

That woman was put under a coordinated and blatant siege, designed to break her to ensure Freeman's win.

That is probably why Freeman wore that stupid jumpsuit...to further away any attention to the reason why she really won.

This is the olympics, she couldn't handle the heat.
Not Cathy's fault, btw she isnt a chump she dominated the CG and got silver in Atlanta.

Marie Jose Perec.

She had Freemans number and she knew it, Freeman was lucky she wasn't there.

Hahaha what da heck are you mongo's on about,Cathy Freeman was unbeatable post Atlanta(she dominated for 3-4 years leading up to Sydney) and had beaten Marie Jose Plod prior to the Sydney games,Cathy Freeman was the best in the world at that time.

They are an absolute lock to top the medal count in Tokyo in the pool, out of the pool and overall. Phelps goes but there are kids like Michael Andrew (very highly thought of prospect) that will pop up and replace him. Swimmers finishing 6th at US trials would win or get individual swims on the Aussie team.

I would say that it would be short odds for the US to win more gold medals in the pool than Australia wins from all events in Tokyo.

Ledecky is the only one that is a certainty, gymnastics is hugely competitive at the olympics so I don't see Biles dominating again.
Less friendly time zone too, so I hope you're wrong.

I can't believe how anyone could question the legitimacy of Cathy Freeman's Gold in Sydney.

Her time of 49.11 in the final would have bitch slapped both Shaunae Miller and the great Allyson Felix in the Rio Final, who ran 49.44 and 49.51 respectively.

Also, five women broke the 50 seconds barrier in the Sydney Final, compared to three in the Rio Final.

And to debunk another myth, she had no reason to fear Perec because Freeman won Gold in the World Championships in both 1997 & 1999.

Finally, just in case people aren't sold on her greatness, Freeman is the 2nd fastest women in history that wasn't an Eastern European Hulk-like genetically mutated freak from the 1980s.

She's second only to Perec. In fact both their times when they came first and second in Atlanta are the two fastest in history (again not including the Beasts of the Eastern Bloc).

I believe Freeman is Australia's greatest ever track athlete as her PBs are standing the test of time in the truly elite modern era (and I mean no disrespect to the likes of Cuthbert by saying that).

No guarantees with Ledecky, people were saying the same things about Missy Franklin in 2012 and she completely fell off when she went to college. That being said USA will always dominate swimming because their programs are so much better than everyone else. If you discount the swimming then GB would currently be top of the medal table by a distance with USA down in third.

Would expect them to probably win half or close to that of available golds in the swimming from the 34 available. Japanese swimmers will come out of the woodwork and jag a few. If they add 50m events, an extra 6 medals to Tokyo then that may change this ever so slightly but I doubt it. Who ever is swimming the men's backstroke is almost a shoe in to win both events for the US. They've not lost the events since Atlanta.

They are always good for a ton of medals in track and field and I'd expect them to go fairly well in most of the new sports too.

I hope you're wrong but I just don't see another country beating them in the medal tally. It might be close though.

11 more medals and we become the first host to win at the following games than we did when hosting.
We have a couple of guaranteed medals but it's going to be close I think.
