I came into say something along these lines (maybe not as blatantly) but yeah, I agree with the sentiment. That was literally a no-win position for Atkins.

Yeah, it was. Again, weird fans - it was an intense first 40 minutes, the pace was insane...but I dunno, it wasn't 28-20 so it's not entertaining? Because it was. To me, I guess.

Some people see what they want to see or whinge for the sake of it. I get that it didn't have a "Sattler Tackle" or a "Benji Flick" moment, it was just a good old slugfest. It probably wont feature in too many highlight reels in years to come, Turuvas try was pretty to watch though.

6/10 overall. 2021 probably the best whistle to whistle contest of the 4.

I'd go higher than 2 on the 2nd half, but I agree it wasn't as good a contest as the 1st. The score was still close, but at no point in the 2nd half did I feel worried.

Penrith are Penrith and are the best because they grind their opposition down. They out bore you. They never stop tackling, never stop running, never stop chasing. For 80 mins, every week, for 5 years now.

It's highly, highly effective and it's a formula no one else can emulate. They're too good at it.

But.. it's not very entertaining, from a neutral perspective. Particularly in finals, when the refs put their whistle away and let them just lay all over you for 80 mins.

That's not hating on Penrith.... I spent 5 years blowing up at my own team as we continually failed to adapt to finals footy and fell at the last or 2nd last hurdle. So Kudos to Penrith.

I dislike the smug like no tomorrow but the way it is set up this was never going to be awarded. Sent up no try if we are debating two days later, it's at best inconclusive and goes back to refs call anyway. What was surprising was they came back and said definate no try rather than inconclusive, but the final decision was always going to be the same.

Penrith were prepared to win 10-0 if needed. Usually these tense games have a pay off like origin 3 did but this game didn't loosen up until Storm knew they couldn't win and Storm are disciplined enough to not let in some late tries.

But.. it's not very entertaining, from a neutral perspective. Particularly in finals, when the refs put their whistle away and let them just lay all over you for 80 mins.

That's not hating on Penrith.... I spent 5 years blowing up at my own team as we continually failed to adapt to finals footy and fell at the last or 2nd last hurdle. So Kudos to Penrith.

The whinge bit wasn't referring to everyone who didn't enjoy it. Just that there is an element of that as well.

It's pretty common in grand finals. In 2008, the biggest margin in a grand final, the first try was scored in the 23rd minute and it was 8-0 at half time.

Honestly it's not even inconclusive. The reverse angle shows the ball is on its side with the point of it tucked into Howarths arm between his forearm and bicep. His arm is underneath the ball with his hand hugging it into his arm and the shots everyone is saying is the ball being grounded are actually his arm and elbow.

Once you know what you're looking at on that angle, it's pretty easy to see that his arm is comfortably under the ball and that it is his arm on the grass. Someone over at the kennel had a good image that outlined the arm and makes it easy to see.

Not sure if it came through on TV but the 10m was about 7-8 and the ruck was beyond slow.

No team is going to run up scores like that, If the NRL want fast flowing footy to win comps than they appoint decent refs that allow it to happen

I agree it should be the same rulings all year.

Neutrals may not see or notice but we play different styles depending on the opposition.

This run began when the rules came in to speed up the game.

We also played Storm in the PF of 2021 and 2023, So there is no guarantee the result changes even if the style of play does

That said, this is Ivan's wheelhouse. Back in 2015 he was running out a centre pairing of Yeo/Lewis Brown. So that helps when a grind style is allowed

Agree with the first part. Same deal with Origin, maybe ease up on some of the really pedantic shit, but the rule book should read somewhat the same. Some of the holding down was crazy, in one instance Harry Grant made a tackle and I went for a piss and he was still flailing around when I got back. Liam Martin had a few that were stretching the friendship as well to be fair.

On the 2nd part there was more to it than manipulating the looser rules that your window didn't result in anything. Mentally weak leaders and a lack of fitness played a bigger role. Cam Murray aside.

There's absolutely no guarantee we beat you even playing differently. I just would've liked to see us adapt, somewhat.
