The Carmelo Anthony trade saga is finally over.

The Nuggets traded Melo to the New York Knicks tonight, a league source said. Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash.

Anthony will go to New York, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.

Anthony was not at the Nuggets' practice as the team resumed workouts following the All-Star break. Billups left the team's Monday practice without speaking to reporters.

A source said the Knicks will send Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to Minnesota as partof the deal.

Nuggets guard J.R. Smith said Monday after practice, after learning of the trade:

"I mean, it's just rebuilding first. We gotta go forward with what we got. And try to do the best we can in the playoffs."

When asked if there's time this season to salvage a Nuggets playoff run, Smith said:

"I think there is. Our backs have been up against the wall many times before."

Lots of rumours that the Nets and Nuggets will now complete a trade whereby Gallinari & Mozgov for two first round draft picks.

Edit: Can we rename this the Melo Thread or something?

Gallinari and Chandler seems like over paying imo. But they both play Melos position and they keep Fields.

Billups/Fields/Melo/Stoudemire/Turiaf Not bad... Lets see what they work around these guys. Would have been good if Randolph lived up to his potential. Also hopefully other teams can make some moves now as this had been one boring trade period!

Doeth - didn't see this thread!

They knew they had to go all in. If the Nuggets can swing Gallo + Mozgov for two first rounders (or even Gallo + Chandler + Mozgov) then they've done even better. Felton will likely be traded as well (considering they have Ty Lawson) and then you've got the expiring contracts of K-Mart and JR Smith to potentially move for other picks.

From Denver's perspective, they've got good players back (if they keep them), draft picks plus they get under the tax line (could save up to $20m). Win, win, win.

From Knicks' perspective, they've been raped. Pure and simple. If they wanted Melo then they had to make the trade but there is close to no chance IMO that they'll have any flexibility to sign a big name free agent (once the salary cap changes) in the future, plus they're considerably hamstrung talent wise with little young talent left. I guess they'll base the trade on how Melo performs but I don't see them threatening out East.

Wow, Knicks gave up THAT much? Lol @ the Nets btw, nothing but a pawn in this trade he was never heading to the Nets. With Mozgov heading West how many more times can Blake Griffin dunk on him now??

Agreed. I dont think the trade really makes them any better.

If a mod wants to merge this thread with the other Melo one, go for it.

So this is how its all broken down between the 3 teams:

Knicks get: Anthony, Billups, Williams, Carter, Balkman, Brewer

Nuggets get: Felton, Gallinari, Chandler, Mozgov, 1st rnd pick, two 2nd rnd picks, $3million cash

Timberwolves get: Curry, Randolph

Are you sure they are getting Brewer because it looks like they are sending Randolph and Curry to the wolves for nothing.

I am shocked the Nuggets got such a good deal but good on them. I'm looking forward to seeing Melo in a Knicks uni even if they did give up to much.He is a nice fall back for them only like what 6 months or so after missing out on LBJ who they were waiting on for 5+ years

Lol @ the thread title.

Gotta give the Nuggets front office credit. They went from the point of having no leverage (and seemingly to be raped by the Knicks) to turning the odds and pillaging the Knicks.

So Nuggets will look like what?

PG - Raymond Felton
SG - JR Smith
SF - Wilson Chandler
PF - Danillo Gallinari
C - Nene

Back up PG - Affallo & Lawson
Back up F/C - Mosgov and Birdman?

That's still not terrible to build around.

I guess we have to wait and see as to what the Nuggets will do with the assets they've acquired.

Will they keep Felton, or flip him for something else and hand the PG reigns to Ty Lawson?

Youre a bit off. Is will look something like this, starters in bold.

PG - Felton, Lawson
SG - Afflalo, JR
SF - Gallinari, Forbes
PF - Chandler, Martin
C - Nene, Mosgov, Birdman

Its a very decent team with a lot of young talent + draft picks.

I do wonder if we may be somewhat overrating the Knicks pieces? We know that D'Antoni's systems have a way of inflating a players numbers.

I guess it depends on what you think their ultimate goal was.

Tbh I think they re-entered the fray to drive up Melo's price and try and get the Knicks to gut their roster in order to obtain him.

From the Nets perspective, the possibility of the Knicks acquiring Melo for little (or via free agency) would be pretty damaging for them.

True you could look at it like that but the Nets were going hard even when the Knicks interest seemed to cool off, I think it was the other way around but whichever way it went though it worked the Knicks gave up a hell of a lot for Melo and to them I say f**k 'em and hope they fall on their sword.

That starting 5 the Knicks have is alright, certainly not a contender to Boston, Chicago and Miami yet imo, but the bench will be tested more than Miami's will be, who from that list can anyone see coming off the bench holding it together?
