That band ghost, I'm not really sure what all the hype is about them, I'v listened to a few songs and I just can't get into them.

Saw them at the BDO last night, watched about 10-15 minutes and left, thought they were shit. Plus they completely ripped off their image from Portal (brilliant Brisbane avante-garde death metal band). Check it out:

The beauty of metal. I put Steven Wilson down as my favourite album for 2013 and it's hardly what you'd call metal. It's a fantastic f**king music we listen to, especially if you happen to love the lot.
Also, I said this to Kungl before, but Eele, f**k you. f**k you so bad.
I'm going down to Utopia Records next month...my wishlist keeps expanding. Will be the only time I go down for awhile, gotta make it worth it.

Does that place still exist? It is still in Martin Place, below street level?

I used to go there in the late 70s/early 80s to buy all my "impossible to get anywhere else" records.

Other places I remember were Phantom Records and Red Eye Records.

It's moved a couple of times, it was next to Hungry jacks on George St near the monorail for a while (good size shop too) but now it's on Kent St, pretty small shop again. Sign of the times I guess. I've got about 700 cds but of late have resorted to spotify for my music. I love having the discs and album art but i just don't have the room at my new house for racks of cds with all my amps and guitars as well. I feel dirty getting my music digitally but at least im paying for it i guess.

Some of the art these days as good as ever
Red Eye is still around they've moved around a bit too
Not as good as it was a few years back but still goes alright

Not keen on Spotify as independent artists basically receive nothing in payment for their work. I buy the bulk of my music via Bandcamp these days, at least the bulk of your money goes directly to the artist that way, they probably make more than they do off physical releases. I don't buy CDs any more at all as they'd just be getting ripped to a hard drive and put on a shelf anyway so whats the point? I do buy the occasional special release on vinyl though.

I've been off vinyls for the last year or so because of price. Still get the occasional one (Devin Townsend's Ziltoid for Christmas)
I get your point on CDs SM (and I agree with you) but I still prefer the physical copy. That's just me I'm a bit anal on that sort of thing

Took me a while to get into metal.

Went to see Ne Obliviscaris in Melbourne on Sunday night and f**king loved it!! Also recently discovered Viking metal and Ghost and f**king love them as well.

Now if I buy all the metal albums I want I'd go broke before I reach 1/10th.

Yeah. Hard to say it's metal but f**k it's a well written album, and great guitar work despite not being totally brvtal

Agreed - a wonderful piece of music.

Steven Wilson is a genius. He is deadset brilliant!

Sorry, man!

My personal favourite album of 2013 is Kataklysm's "Waiting For The End To Come". It's just brutal - classic Kataklysm.

Blind Guardian is excellent. I bought them for their Middle Earth songs only to find their music is brilliant as well. I also really like Eluveitie.

New Carcass is awesome.

Does anyone get into I Killed the Prom Queen? They're releasing their first album in 7 years in a few weeks. Sounds pretty good from the two songs released so far.
